Specialists from the Rosneft Arctic Research Center, together with scientists from the country's leading research institutes, have summed up the results of the polar bear field season as part of the Tamura corporate biodiversity conservation program. Three expeditions were conducted in the spring to study the Arctic predator population.

Representatives of the Company, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as specialists from the Biotechnology Campus (BTC) Center for Whole-Genome Sequencing, spoke about scientific work in the north of Krasnoyarsk Krai at a press breakfast.

In 2025, scientists were faced with the task of conducting the first full-scale aerial survey of the Kara subpopulation of polar bears in Russian practice. Specialists made 25 flights, the total length of air routes was almost 24 thousand km. During the expeditions, about 170 thousand photographs were taken, as well as 540 thousand infrared photographs, which will be processed using artificial intelligence.

According to the expedition participants, 8 flights of the laboratory aircraft were made from the village of Sabetta in Yamal for a comprehensive survey of the inner delta of the Gulf of Ob and the southeastern part of the Kara Sea. During the aerial visual observations, 22 polar bears, 23 walruses, 616 seals, 77 belugas, and rare bird species were recorded.

Ten helicopter flights were made from the village of Dikson to survey the ice of a number of islands, as well as the ice in the Yenisei Gulf to Sever Bay and along the northern coast of the Taimyr Peninsula to the mouth of the Uboynaya River. During the work, 37 polar bears of various ages and both sexes were registered. 10 animals were tagged with satellite collars and ear tags for remote tracking of migration routes. Scientists also took samples of the polar bears' fur and blood to study their health and genetic affiliation to a particular subpopulation – the samples are already being studied by BTK specialists. The location of two abandoned polar bear maternity dens and the habitat of the bears' main food source – the ringed seal – were also determined.

Also from the village of Dikson, scientists surveyed the central and south-eastern waters of the Kara Sea. Specialists carried out 7 flights and registered 12 polar bears, 16 belugas and 420 seals. Specialists noted that based on the results of the work, the number and distribution density of polar bears and their food sources in the Kara Sea will be determined.

Rosneft pays special attention to environmental issues and biodiversity conservation and is implementing the largest comprehensive Arctic region study program since Soviet times. The goal of the new Tamura research program, which started in 2024, is to update information on the state of key animal species in the northern region. The Tamura program includes studying the Kara subpopulation of polar bears, wild reindeer populations in western Taimyr, and valuable bird and fish species in the Yenisei estuary. The data obtained will allow scientists to draw conclusions about the state of ecosystems and develop measures to preserve the region's biodiversity. In 2024, scientists conducted five expeditions, and ten expeditions will be held in total over four years.

Statement by PJSC NK Rosneft in connection with the illegal EU sanctions against the Nayara Energy refinery

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

PJSC NK Rosneft considers the decision of the European Union to introduce restrictive measures against the Indian Nayara Energy refinery to be unfounded and illegal. These sanctions are another example of the extraterritorial application of politically motivated restrictions that grossly violate international law and infringe on the economic interests of a sovereign state.

Rosneft emphasizes that it is not the controlling shareholder of Nayara Energy – the Company’s share in the authorized capital of the enterprise is less than 50%. The enterprise is managed by an independent Board of Directors.

The EU's reason for imposing sanctions is completely far-fetched and false in content, Nayara Energy is an Indian legal entity whose economic activity is aimed at developing the asset. The company is taxed entirely in India. Nayara Energy shareholders have never received dividends, and the accumulated profits were used exclusively for the development of oil refining and petrochemicals, as well as the company's retail network in India.

The Nayara Energy refinery is a strategically important asset of the Indian energy sector, ensuring stable supplies of petroleum products to the country's domestic market. The introduction of sanctions against the enterprise directly threatens India's energy security and will negatively affect its economy.

Such actions by the EU demonstrate a complete disregard not only for international law, but also for the sovereignty of third countries. Rosneft views these sanctions as part of the EU's destructive policy aimed at destabilizing global energy markets. The restrictions on Nayara Energy are yet another example of the EU using unfair competition practices.

We expect that Nayara Energy will take measures to protect the legitimate interests of its shareholders and consumers, which will be supported by the governments of Russia and India.

Rosneft Improves Well Research Methods

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Specialists from the Ufa scientific institute "Rosneft" have developed and patented the software "EchoTools" – the first domestic software that uses artificial intelligence to determine the liquid level and the speed of sound in the inter-tube space of a well. Using these indicators, oil workers calculate the bottomhole pressure and select the optimal operating mode for the well for maximum productivity.

The new software interprets, on average, more than 10 thousand readings from wells in two minutes; manually, this would take more than three days.

Well control solutions recommended by the new digital assistant “EchoTools” thanks to accelerated calculations allow, on average, one additional ton of oil to be extracted per day from one well.

Development of technological potential is one of the key elements of the Rosneft-2030 strategy. The company prioritizes innovation activities, defining technological leadership as a key factor in competitiveness in the oil market.

Rosneft implements natural solutions in production

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Specialists from the environmental protection service of the Novokuibyshevsk Petrochemical Company (part of Rosneft) are implementing a unique environmental project. For the first time, the company's wastewater treatment facilities will use water hyacinths (eichornia) to bio-purify wastewater.

The phytofiltration technology at the wastewater post-treatment unit is used by several Rosneft enterprises in the Samara region. The pioneer of implementation was the Kuibyshev Oil Refinery, where not only water hyacinths, but also pancratium and calamus help to achieve a high degree of wastewater disinfection. Eichhornia seedlings have proven themselves well at the treatment facilities of the Syzran and Novokuibyshevsk Oil Refineries.

Eichhornia is not just a beautiful ornamental plant. Its powerful root system works as a highly effective natural filter. The roots absorb any bacteriological contaminants, suspended matter, phosphorus, nitrogen and other chemical compounds from the water, providing a high degree of disinfection and bringing the quality of purified water closer to natural reservoirs. It is important that the plant is effective precisely in the warm period of the year, when bacteria are most active and the risk of contamination increases.

During the flowering period, the Eichhornia produces blue inflorescences, turning the water surface into a flower garden. The use of plants in the process of additional wastewater treatment is an example of the implementation of environmental solutions with proven economic and environmental efficiency.

Rosneft Improves Associated Petroleum Gas Purification Technologies

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Employees of Orenburgneft, Rosneft's key production asset in the Volga region, have patented a technology for reducing the content of hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans in associated petroleum gas (APG). The innovation has been implemented at the Vakhitovsky group of fields of the enterprise, which has increased the volume of rational use of APG from 20 to 80 thousand m3 per day. The economic effect from the implementation of the innovation will amount to more than 1 billion rubles within five years.

The essence of the innovation is to purify the gas flow in the pipeline by feeding a liquid reagent-neutralizer, which removes sulfur compounds from the APG without using additional equipment. Then the primarily purified product is sent to the Zagorskaya complex gas treatment plant for subsequent processing.

The company's specialists were the first to propose the idea of cleaning gas directly in the pipeline, which itself acts as a reactor, and proved its effectiveness. The technology does not require capital expenditures, construction of new facilities or additional equipment.

The introduction of the innovation made it possible to process additional volumes of sulfur-containing associated petroleum gas, increase the production of a wide fraction of light hydrocarbons and dry stripped gas, and supply additional volumes of treated gas to main gas pipelines.

Rosneft uses domestic special equipment to improve the efficiency of power transmission line maintenance

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Orenburgneft, Rosneft's key production asset in the Volga region, has increased the reliability of power supply to oil production facilities by servicing 6 (10) kV power lines with truck-mounted hydraulic lifts on high-traffic chassis.

The unique tracked model has high technical and off-road capabilities. In particular, the driver of the special vehicle can automatically level the working platform and control the equipment remotely from the control panel.

The equipment also allows for the safe delivery and lifting of people and large loads (metal structures, construction equipment), and the performance of transport and technological operations in particularly difficult road and climatic conditions of marshy terrain, afloat and virgin snow.

The use of hydraulic lifts increases the speed of response to technological shutdowns of network infrastructure during periods of adverse weather conditions by reducing the time it takes for special equipment to arrive at the site of damage, which ensures uninterrupted operation of oil-producing wells and reduces transportation costs.

The Company's enterprises regularly replenish their fleets of specialized equipment with new models from domestic developers. Domestic all-terrain vehicles also help the enterprise maintain reliable power supply at any time of year on any site. Last year, the fleet of Orenburgneft's special equipment was replenished with ten such high-traffic vehicles.
