JERUSALEM, March 11 (Xinhua) — Air raid sirens sounded across Israel on Wednesday evening as air defense systems detected missile launches from Iran and Lebanon.

According to several media reports, a rocket or its debris struck a building in the north of the country. Israel's Magen David Adom rescue service stated in a statement that its crews were heading to the scene to check for casualties.

Israeli state television channel Kan TV reported, citing an Israeli security official, that the military believes Iran and Hezbollah coordinated the launches in an attempt to evade Israeli air defenses. –0–

Washington, March 11 (Xinhua) — An ongoing military investigation has preliminarily determined that the strike by a U.S. Tomahawk missile on an Iranian elementary school, which killed more than 160 people, mostly students, was the result of a targeting error, The New York Times reported on Wednesday.

Officials familiar with the investigation told the publication that officers at U.S. Central Command based the strike coordinates on outdated intelligence provided by the Defense Intelligence Agency, which led to the targeting error.

It is noted that the conclusion is still preliminary and some key questions remain unanswered, including why outdated information was not re-verified.

The February 28 attack on Shajare Tayyebeh Elementary School in the city of Minab was part of US attacks targeting a nearby Iranian military base.

As the publication points out, although the conclusion was largely expected, since the United States is the only party in the conflict known to use Tomahawk missiles, the incident has already cast a shadow over the American military operation against Iran.

US President Donald Trump continues to repeat that Iran, not the United States, is responsible for the attack on the school.

“From what I’ve seen, Iran did it,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on March 7.

Tomahawk missiles “are sold and used by other countries,” Trump said on March 9, adding that “Iran also has several Tomahawk missiles.”

“As The New York Times itself acknowledged in its reporting, the investigation is still ongoing,” White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt said in a statement.

Analysts say the attack on a school full of students can be considered one of the most fatal military mistakes of recent decades. –0–

Khartoum, March 11 (Xinhua) — At least 69 people were killed this week in drone strikes on a truck carrying people, a school, and a medical center in two Sudanese states, medical sources and volunteers said on Wednesday.

In the first incident, a drone struck a civilian truck carrying people in the city of Abu Zabad in West Kordofan State in southern Sudan on Tuesday, killing 52 people. Eyewitnesses reported that the truck was carrying approximately 90 passengers. The dead included mostly women, along with several men and children.

The survivors were taken to Abu Zabad's only functioning hospital and nearby facilities, where medical staff treated the wounded amid overcrowding and shortages of medicine.

A second strike on Wednesday killed 17 people in the village of Shukairi, near the town of Kosti in White Nile State in central Sudan. Nine students, three teachers, four patients, and one health worker were killed.

The Sudanese Doctors Network said the strike targeted a school and a health centre, calling it a deliberate attack on unarmed civilians and a violation of international law.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks. The Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Intervention Force have not yet commented on the incident. –0–

Minsk, March 11 (Xinhua) — The foreign policy environment for Belarus in 2025 remained challenging, but the country managed to ensure the stability of its foreign policy course. This was stated by Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov on Wednesday. The corresponding information was published by the Belta news agency.

"The foreign policy environment surrounding Belarus in 2025 remained challenging, but we have managed to ensure the sustainability of our foreign policy. Belarus remains open to the comprehensive development of relations with all those who are prepared to engage in dialogue based on the principles of equality, mutual respect, and consideration of each other's national interests," noted M. Ryzhenkov.

Summing up the year's work, he reported that the country's priority remained strengthening the strategic partnership with Russia, which reached an unprecedented level in 2025. "The key achievement of 2025 was the successful implementation of a package of integration measures, which allowed us to increase mutual trade turnover to a record $55 billion and ensure reliable protection of Belarusian borders within the framework of the updated security strategy of the Union State," the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry emphasized.

He also noted that cooperation with the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, primarily with Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, is developing dynamically. –0–

Madrid, March 11 (Xinhua) — Spain has officially recalled its ambassador to Israel, leaving the Spanish embassy in Tel Aviv under the leadership of a chargé d'affaires. The Spanish government announced this in its official bulletin on Wednesday.

The decision was made at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, following a proposal from Foreign Minister José Manuel Albarez. This move further lowered the level of mutual diplomatic representation between the two countries.

Relations between Spain and Israel have remained tense in recent years. Spanish Ambassador Ana María Salomón Pérez recalled her visit to Madrid for consultations in September 2025 after Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez repeatedly criticized Israel's military campaign in the Gaza Strip, and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar responded by calling the Spanish government "anti-Semitic."

Israel has also been without a full-fledged ambassador in Madrid since May 2024, when he was recalled in protest after Spain officially recognized the State of Palestine.

Following the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, P. Sanchez spoke out strongly against escalation and did not allow US forces to use air bases in Spain. –0–

Almaty, March 11 (Xinhua) — Kazakhstan has strengthened anti-terrorism measures at strategic facilities amid the tense situation in the Middle East. This was reported Wednesday by the Kazinform news agency, citing Andrei Lukin, a member of the Senate (the upper house of parliament).

"The head of state immediately focused on anti-terrorism security. A dedicated Security Council meeting was held. All our structures have been put on high alert—as a preventative measure," the senator said, responding to journalists' questions about the security of the country's strategic facilities.

Regarding “preventive measures,” A. Lukin clarified that oil-producing enterprises located on the territory of Kazakhstan have corresponding units, which, in turn, are tasked with countering terrorist attacks “both from the air and from the ground, as well as from the Caspian Sea.” –0–
