Vladivostok, March 13 (Xinhua) — China is Primorsky Krai's most reliable and stable partner, and the region is ready to deepen cooperation with it in areas such as mechanical engineering, agricultural processing, and biomedicine. This was stated by Oleg Kozhemyako, Governor of Russia's Primorsky Krai, in a recent interview with Xinhua.
"Primorye is Russia's outpost in the Far East. Every second container in Russia is handled in our ports. And, of course, our connections with our closest neighboring countries allow us to see the potential for integration and a hub here," noted O. Kozhemyako, speaking about Vladivostok's importance to Russia.
According to the governor, integration with the Asia-Pacific region (APR) is currently a priority for all of Russia. "We see great potential in the Asia-Pacific region, and therefore we are focusing our economy and integration ties specifically on them. This allows us to maximize our port, transport, and logistics capabilities to further integrate into the economies of these countries," the Primorsky Territory governor emphasized.
He noted that today the key developing sectors of the region's economy are shipbuilding, ship repair, fish processing, wood processing, and agriculture.
"All of this creates the economic potential our region needs: for development, for integration, for export efforts. We are certainly considering the possibility of resuming exports to other countries we previously exported to after sanctions are lifted," noted O. Kozhemyako.
The Primorsky Krai Governor specifically emphasized the importance of cooperation with China, calling it the most reliable and stable partner.
"We are confident in his long-term, sound policy aimed at bringing our countries closer together and developing the friendly integration processes that have united our states for centuries," said O. Kozhemyako, speaking about the partnership with China.
He noted that Primorsky Krai and China are currently connected by approximately 15 border crossings of various types, as well as 55 flights per week. "This speaks to the extensive integration currently developing between the People's Republic of China and Primorsky Krai," the governor added.
Furthermore, the head of Primorsky Krai noted that the region is happy to provide support tools to foreign investors for project implementation.
The governor cited the Chinese company LegendAgro as an example of successful work. "It successfully implements agricultural processing projects and takes advantage of all subsidies and support instruments, since its branch is registered with us," O. Kozhemyako noted.
The governor also confirmed plans to create a Russian-Chinese agro-industrial park in the port of Sukhodol. It will utilize biotechnology and advanced processing of agricultural raw materials. The project is already receiving regional subsidies.
The regional head also noted the quality of work by Chinese companies, which "left a clear mark with their high-quality work and precise adherence to all building codes and regulations" during the construction of housing in Bolshoy Kamen and chemical plants.
O. Kozhemyako listed the sectors where the region is particularly eager for Chinese investment: mechanical engineering, consumer goods, advanced timber and fish processing, shipbuilding, biomedicine, and biotechnology.
"We have created all the conditions for reputable investors," the governor assured. "We are ready to provide sites in technology parks, equipped with gas, electricity, and water. We will support projects right through to contract signing."
Speaking about tourism, O. Kozhemyako announced plans to integrate with Chinese digital platforms so that tourists from China could book and pay for hotels and tickets to cultural institutions in Primorye in advance.
The governor also noted that the Khasan port, located near the Russian-Chinese border (just 70 km from Hunchun), will soon open, where Chinese tourists will be able to relax on the beaches and enjoy coastal cuisine.
"I want to tell Chinese tourists that we are always happy to see them," the governor addressed potential Chinese guests to Primorye.
"China has a rich culture, one of the most ancient. The potential inherent in the Chinese people is now bearing fruit. One of the main qualities of the Chinese is their hard work. This is the key factor in the success of any country," noted Governor O. Kozhemyako, sharing his opinion on the Chinese people and the reasons for China's sustainable economic growth.
The Primorsky Territory Governor also highlighted China's huge domestic consumption market and leadership in digitalization as factors in its successful development.
