JERUSALEM, July 29 (Xinhua) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to present a plan to annex part of the Gaza Strip to the country's security cabinet, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported on Monday evening.

Tbilisi, July 29 (Xinhua) — The Chinese Embassy in Georgia held a reception in Tbilisi to mark the 98th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army (PLA).

The event was attended by employees of the Georgian Ministry of Defense, high-ranking government officials, members of parliament, foreign ambassadors, military attachés, as well as representatives of the media, Chinese and Georgian companies and public circles.

The ceremonial part began with the performance of the national anthems of China and Georgia. The first vice-speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Gia Volski, delivered a congratulatory message on behalf of the country's legislative body. SHIJIAZHUANG, July 29 (Xinhua) — North China's Hebei Province raised its emergency response mechanism from level three to level two at 9 p.m. Monday due to floods in the cities of Chengde, Tangshan, Langfang and Qinhuangdao.

BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhua) — The latest round of heavy rainfall in Beijing has killed 30 people as of 00:00 Tuesday, the Beijing municipal flood control headquarters said Tuesday.

Fatalities were recorded in the northern mountainous areas of the Chinese capital, with 28 people killed in the Miyun district and two in the Yanqing district.

A total of 80,332 people were evacuated from the city due to the raging floods. The maximum amount of rainfall, according to local authorities, fell in the Miyun district, reaching 543.4 mm.

The rains damaged 31 sections of roads and caused power outages in 136 villages.

In recent days, extreme and strong convective phenomena caused by warm and humid air from the edge of a subtropical anticyclone have been recorded in Miyun and other metropolitan areas.

At 8:00 p.m. Monday, the Beijing Municipal Flood Control Headquarters launched the highest-level emergency response mechanism for the floods.

MINSK, July 29 (Xinhua) — The second power unit of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP) has been connected to the grid after the completion of technological operations to restore the generator's cooling system, the Belarusian Energy Ministry reported on Monday.

Earlier, diagnostic measures were carried out at the second power unit of the Belarusian NPP. It was disconnected from the grid by personnel on July 16. The reason was the activation of an alarm about a deviation in the operation of the generator cooling system – the non-nuclear part of the unit.

The Ministry of Energy noted that the unit is currently operating at nominal capacity. The radiation background at the station and in the observation zone has not changed. Electricity supply to consumers has not been disrupted.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant, located near the city of Ostrovets in the Grodno region, was built according to the standard Russian design “AES-2006”. LOS ANGELES, July 28 (Xinhua) — At least two people were killed and several others were injured in a shooting Monday morning outside a casino in Reno, Nevada (U.S.), the Reno Gazette-Journal reported.

The city's police department said officers were dispatched to the scene at 7:25 a.m. local time /14:25 GMT/ after receiving a report of shots fired near the Grand Sierra Resort casino. They immediately located the suspect and opened fire. The shooter was taken to hospital.

KYIV, July 29 /Xinhua/ — Since the beginning of the armed conflict with Russia, Ukraine has secured the release of 6,412 people from Russian captivity, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Telegram on Monday.

He specified that 5,857 prisoners were returned to Ukraine as part of exchanges with the Russian Federation. Another 555 people were released outside of these procedures.
