BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhua) — In the two years since the launch of the China-Europe international freight train routes at Tongjiang Railway Port in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, a total of 285 freight trains have passed through the port, carrying 27,956 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) and handling more than 210,000 tons of freight, according to Zhongxinwang online portal.

The city of Tongjiang borders the Jewish Autonomous Region of Russia. This border city is home to the only border crossing in Heilongjiang Province that is connected to Russia by water, road and rail transport.

The Tongjiang Railway Port began operations in November 2022. Since the first China-Europe freight train passed through the port in July 2023, a total of 18 China-Europe freight routes have been launched at the port, covering more than 20 Chinese cities. It carries electric vehicles, home appliances, consumer goods, etc. to Europe, and delivers high-quality European products such as corrugated paper, plywood, and sugar beet meal to the domestic market in the opposite direction, providing an efficient and stable logistics channel for Belt and Road countries.

In order to ensure the efficient movement of China-Europe trains, Tongjiang Customs actively cooperates with enterprises to identify their needs, implements a series of simplification measures to promptly inspect trains upon arrival and promptly pass them through immediately after completion of the procedure, and actively promotes the “railway express” mode, which can reduce customs clearance time by 1-2 days.

According to the data, as of July 28, since the beginning of 2025, 65 trains have passed through the Tongjiang checkpoint on the China-Europe routes, transporting 5,576 standard containers of cargo weighing 60.6 thousand tons, among which more than 60 percent of the containers have undergone customs clearance under the “railway express” mode. -0-

BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhua) — Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province has successfully completed its first trial import of meat products from Russia using a combined scheme along the cold chain transportation route by a special refrigerated vehicle under the TIR (International Road Transport) system – "TIR cold chain".

According to the Heilongjiang Daily, a special refrigerated truck recently delivered 19 tons of frozen chicken feet from Russia to the comprehensive bonded area of Harbin (the capital of Heilongjiang Province, Northeast China) under the TIR system. The cargo traveled from the Chelyabinsk Region of the Russian Federation through the Manzhouli automobile checkpoint (Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, North China), successfully passing customs clearance there.

The shipment, organized by Longyulian Company under the provincial transportation investment corporation, marked a breakthrough in creating a highly efficient logistics corridor for importing high-value-added perishable goods from Russia.

According to a representative of Longyulian, the cold chain truck covered a distance of 6,400 km in 7 days, ensuring door-to-door delivery while maintaining full sealing and prioritizing environmental friendliness. Compared with the return trips of freight trains and conventional road transportation, the aforementioned “TIR cold chain” transportation scheme has reduced the logistics costs of enterprises by about 10 percent.

The combined scheme “TIR cold chain” is distinguished by the level of transportation routing, high delivery speed, transportation of cargo without transshipment, prompt customs clearance and minimal cargo losses, which significantly reduces the cost of transportation. -0-

RIO DE JANEIRO, July 29 (Xinhua) — Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Monday urged the United States to reconsider proposed 50 percent tariffs on Brazilian goods set to take effect on Aug. 1, refusing to use the country's critical mineral resources as a bargaining chip in trade talks.

Speaking at the opening of a thermal power plant in the southeastern state of Rio de Janeiro, Lula da Silva criticized the tariffs as “sudden and unilateral” and rejected Washington’s proposal to include Brazil’s rare earth minerals in trade talks.

Brazil's president urged the United States to choose the "path of dialogue," noting that "this is what civilized countries do." He said the mineral resources belong to the Brazilian people, "and the people should have the right to enjoy the wealth they can bring, it's as simple as that."

Noting that only 30 percent of Brazil's mineral potential had been explored, L.I. Lula da Silva announced the creation of a commission to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the country's untapped mineral resources.

“We will allow companies to explore, but under our control,” he said, adding that companies that receive exploration permits will need government approval to sell resources or transfer rights to the areas where they lie. –0–

Bishkek, July 29 /Xinhua/ — The board of the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan has decided to raise the key rate by 25 basis points to 9.25 percent, the National Bank's website reported on Tuesday.

According to the data, inflation in Kyrgyzstan remains within moderate limits. The inflation rate since the beginning of 2025 was 4.6 percent, in annual terms – 8.7 percent. In the inflation structure, the largest price increase was observed in the food group of goods due to the influence of seasonal and temporary factors, as well as against the background of relatively high inflation in the countries-trading partners of Kyrgyzstan.

It is noted that economic conditions in Kyrgyzstan have not undergone significant changes. The country maintains high economic activity, while domestic demand continues to expand against the backdrop of rising incomes. There is also an increase in investment in fixed capital, both through private financing and through fiscal channel funds.

The situation on the foreign exchange market is stable, while the exchange rate remains flexible in the context of market formation of the balance of supply and demand for foreign currency. –0–

UNITED NATIONS, July 29 (Xinhua) — One million women and girls in the Gaza Strip are facing mass starvation, violence and abuse, UN Women said in a statement on Monday as the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza escalated.

The statement said malnutrition was on the rise and basic services had long been disrupted, forcing women and girls to resort to increasingly dangerous survival strategies.

“Women and girls in Gaza face an impossible choice: starve to death in their shelters or go out in search of food and water, at great risk of being killed. Their children are starving to death before their eyes. This is appalling, unacceptable and unacceptable. It is inhumane,” UN Women Executive Director Sima Bacchus said in a statement.

"This suffering must end immediately. We need unimpeded humanitarian access on a large scale and a permanent ceasefire leading to sustainable peace," she said.

Women-led organisations in Gaza describe women boiling discarded food scraps to feed their children and risking death in search of food and water. Women and girls have run out of basic necessities that are critical to their health, safety and dignity, the statement said.

It also said that more than 28,000 women and girls have been killed in Gaza, most of them mothers who have left their children and elderly people without protection and care. Women bear children in conditions of malnutrition, and give birth without access to water and medical care.

The statement said UN Women joins the UN and humanitarian organizations in calling for an end to this horror and reiterates its demands for unrestricted access for women and girls to humanitarian aid, the release of all hostages and an immediate ceasefire leading to sustainable peace.

“We share the hope that this week’s High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Palestinian Question will be a turning point and lead to the realization of the principle of ‘two states for two peoples’, according to which Israel and Palestine will live side by side in peace and security,” the statement added. –0–

Israel's denial of Gaza famine is beyond comprehension – Australian PM

CANBERRA, July 29 (Xinhua) — Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has called Israel's denial of a famine in Gaza "beyond comprehension."

Speaking at a meeting of his ruling Labor Party in Canberra on Tuesday, E. Albanese criticized statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel's deputy chief of mission to Australia Amir Meron that there are no signs of famine in Gaza.

The Australian prime minister said that while any information provided by Hamas should be taken with a grain of salt, it is Israel that is not allowing journalists into the Gaza Strip.

"Claims that there is no famine in Gaza are beyond comprehension," he said.

B. Netanyahu said on social media on Monday that there is no famine in Gaza and there is no policy aimed at creating famine.

Mr Meron reportedly told reporters from several Australian publications during a briefing in Canberra on Monday that Israel does not admit there is a famine in the Gaza Strip and that such reports are part of a “false campaign” by Hamas.

His comments came after Albanese told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) on Sunday that Israel was "clearly" violating international law by restricting aid to Gaza, and said in a statement on Friday that the denial of aid and the killing of civilians "cannot be justified or ignored."

Asked at a meeting on Tuesday when Australia would decide on recognising Palestinian statehood, Mr Albanese said his government had conditions that must be met, including democratic reforms. –0–
