HANGZHOU, July 29 (Xinhua) — Authorities in east China's Zhejiang Province on Tuesday raised the emergency response level for Typhoon Ko Mei, the eighth typhoon this year, to Level 3 from Level 4, the provincial emergency management department said.

BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhua) — In the two years since the launch of the China-Europe international freight train routes at Tongjiang Railway Port in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, a total of 285 freight trains have passed through the port, carrying 27,956 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) and handling more than 210,000 tons of freight, according to Zhongxinwang online portal.

The city of Tongjiang borders the Jewish Autonomous Region of Russia. This border city is home to the only border crossing in Heilongjiang Province that is connected to Russia by water, road and rail transport.

The Tongjiang Railway Port began operations in November 2022. BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhua) — Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province has successfully completed its first trial import of meat products from Russia using a combined scheme along the cold chain transportation route by a special refrigerated vehicle under the TIR (International Road Transport) system – "TIR cold chain".

According to the Heilongjiang Daily, a special refrigerated truck recently delivered 19 tons of frozen chicken feet from Russia to the comprehensive bonded area of Harbin (the capital of Heilongjiang Province, Northeast China) under the TIR system. The cargo traveled from the Chelyabinsk Region of the Russian Federation through the Manzhouli automobile checkpoint (Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, North China), successfully passing customs clearance there.

RIO DE JANEIRO, July 29 (Xinhua) — Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Monday urged the United States to reconsider proposed 50 percent tariffs on Brazilian goods set to take effect on Aug. 1, refusing to use the country's critical mineral resources as a bargaining chip in trade talks.

Speaking at the opening of a thermal power plant in the southeastern state of Rio de Janeiro, Lula da Silva criticized the tariffs as “sudden and unilateral” and rejected Washington’s proposal to include Brazil’s rare earth minerals in trade talks.

UNITED NATIONS, July 29 (Xinhua) — One million women and girls in the Gaza Strip are facing mass starvation, violence and abuse, UN Women said in a statement on Monday as the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza escalated.

The statement said malnutrition was on the rise and basic services had long been disrupted, forcing women and girls to resort to increasingly dangerous survival strategies.

“Women and girls in Gaza face an impossible choice: starve to death in their shelters or go out in search of food and water, at great risk of being killed. CANBERRA, July 29 (Xinhua) — Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has called Israel's denial of a famine in Gaza "beyond comprehension."

Speaking at a meeting of his ruling Labor Party in Canberra on Tuesday, E. Albanese criticized statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel's deputy chief of mission to Australia Amir Meron that there are no signs of famine in Gaza.
