STOCKHOLM, July 29 (Xinhua) — China and the United States should continuously consolidate consensus, reduce misunderstandings, enhance cooperation, and deepen dialogue and consultation to achieve new win-win results, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng said in Stockholm on Tuesday.
According to him, stable, healthy and sustainable trade and economic relations between China and the United States are conducive not only to the development goals of the two countries, but also to the growth and stability of the entire world economy.
He Lifeng made these statements during a new round of China-US trade and economic talks held in Stockholm from July 28 to 29, in which Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and US Trade Representative Jamison Greer participated on the American side.
During the talks, the two sides had a frank, in-depth and constructive exchange of views on China-US trade and economic relations, macroeconomic policies and other important topics of mutual interest.
The parties also reviewed and approved the implementation of the agreements reached following the trade negotiations in Geneva, as well as the framework agreement reached during the negotiations in London.
Based on the consensus reached during the talks, the parties will continue to promote a 90-day extension of the suspension of the 24 percent mirror tariffs of the US side and the countermeasures of the Chinese side.
As He Lifeng pointed out, the economic and trade teams of China and the United States should follow the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries during the telephone conversation on June 5, adhere to the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, respect each other's concerns, strengthen consensus and deepen mutual trust.
China's position on trade and economic relations with the United States is consistent, the Vice Premier of the State Council emphasized, noting that the essence of Chinese-American trade and economic relations is mutual benefit and win-win.
According to him, the parties have broad common interests and ample space for cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, cooperation between China and the United States benefits both sides, while confrontation harms both of them.
He Lifeng called on the two sides to continue to adhere to the important consensus reached by the two leaders during the phone conversation and make full use of the mechanism of China-US economic and trade consultations.
Representatives of the American side stated that stable US-Chinese trade and economic relations are of great importance for the economies of both countries and the world as a whole.
They expressed the US readiness to work with the Chinese side to further resolve differences in the trade and economic sphere through the consultation mechanism, achieve new results in the negotiations and promote further stabilization of bilateral trade and economic relations. –0–
