BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhua) — China's YH-1000 unmanned cargo aircraft recently completed a cargo test flight in complex terrain, marking a milestone for its future commercial operation.

The YH-1000 aircraft, developed by the China Academy of Aerospace Aerodynamics under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), made the flight on July 28 along a 134-kilometer route connecting the Liangping and Wulong districts of southwest China's Chongqing city, Science and Technology Daily reported.

At 7:47 on July 28, a YH-1000 aircraft carrying a cargo container took off from Liangping Airport, and more than an hour later, it made a smooth landing at Xiannushan Airport in Wulong District. After unloading and loading the cargo, the aircraft departed at 9:47, landing at Liangping Airport at 11:02.

The aircraft flew over five mountain peaks, each of which is over 1,000 meters high, and also crossed the territory above the Wujiang Canyon and the Yangtze River waterway, thus passing a full-scale test of its ability to fly with cargo, fly across regions and return autonomously in the complex mountainous terrain of the Yangtze River basin.

According to a person in charge of the YH-1000 development team, the recent test flight of the drone shows that the YH-1000 has the technical capabilities required for commercial use. In the future, its trial operation will be promoted, thus giving new impetus to the rapid development of the “low-altitude economy” in the western region of China.

The YH-1000 aircraft project started in June 2024 and its maiden flight took place on May 22, 2025. With outstanding capabilities such as ultra-short takeoff and landing and strong adaptability to harsh operating environments, it can take off and land on roads, hard ground and grass surfaces, which will greatly expand the application possibilities of unmanned cargo aircraft.

The YH-1000 aircraft has a payload capacity of over 1,000 kg, a maximum operating altitude of 8,000 meters, and a flight duration of 10 hours. The new drone will enable low-cost and fast cargo transportation between cities and remote areas, as well as improve logistics communications in the central and western regions of the country.

BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhua) — China has now unilaterally or mutually granted visa-free entry to citizens of 75 countries as part of the country's efforts to streamline visa regulations and promote international exchanges, Wang Zhizhong, director of the National Immigration Administration, said at a press conference on Wednesday.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), the number of countries whose citizens enjoy visa-free transit through China has also increased to 55. The number of checkpoints through which one can enter the country has grown to 60, covering 24 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government, the head of the department said.

In addition, the visa-free transit period has been extended to 240 hours. According to Wang Zhizhong, all these measures have greatly facilitated the travel of foreigners visiting China for tourism, business and other purposes.

“Based on their personal experiences, many foreign visitors gained insight into the real and multifaceted China,” he said. -0-

UNITED NATIONS, July 30 (Xinhua) — The United Nations Security Council on Tuesday adopted a resolution extending sanctions on armed groups operating in the Central African Republic (CAR) and others undermining peace in the country for one year until July 31, 2026.

Resolution 2789, adopted unanimously by the 15 council members, requires all member states to “take the necessary measures to prevent the direct or indirect supply, sale or transfer of arms and related materials of all types to armed groups and associated individuals operating in that country,” according to a report on the UN Security Council meeting.

It also extends the mandate of the panel of experts that assists in implementing the sanctions until August 31, 2026.

Last year, the UN Security Council lifted the arms embargo on the CAR government through Resolution 2745, but left in place an arms embargo on armed groups and associated individuals operating in the CAR, as well as targeted asset freezes and travel bans on entities and individuals designated by the Sanctions Committee. –0–

ACCRA, July 30 (Xinhua) — Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday called on African leaders to build a solid foundation for inclusive governance and protection of civil liberties in their countries, he said in his opening speech at the 13th African Union High-Level Dialogue on Democracy, Governance and Human Rights in Accra.

The Ghanaian leader stressed that inclusive governance and the protection of civil liberties are essential components of legitimate and resilient states.

Commenting on the theme of the dialogue, “Justice, Law, Reparations and Nation Building,” J.D. Mahama said the current meeting “must not be another ceremonial event filled with high-flown rhetoric but devoid of action.”

“We must defend press freedom, listen to the voices of young people, women and marginalized groups and protect them,” he said.

J.D. Mahama also called on African leaders to match their commitments to democracy and governance with concrete action, warning that citizens, especially the youth, were growing tired of broken promises. Young people constitute the majority of the population and are growing impatient, but they are not asking for handouts but for justice, opportunity and a stake in the continent’s future, the president stressed.

He pointed to the need for transformative leadership and inclusive development across the continent to restore trust among youth and marginalized groups. –0–

CARACAS, July 30 (Xinhua) — Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil on Tuesday accused U.S. Embassy Charge d'Affaires in Colombia John McNamara of kidnapping 33 Venezuelan children.

D. McNamara “is the perpetrator of this crime, directly responsible for maintaining this illegal and deeply immoral situation,” the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote on social networks.

The children were “separated from their families, which is a clear violation of international law, human rights and even their own [US – Xinhua] laws,” the official said. He denounced the practice of separating families as “criminal, inhumane and outrageous” and called for the “unconditional” release of the children so they can be reunited with their relatives. “Freedom for the abducted boys and girls!” he said, attaching photos of the children to his post.

Venezuela has condemned U.S. President Donald Trump's crackdown on immigrants. In March, the two countries agreed to resume repatriation flights for Venezuelan migrants under the government's "Return to the Homeland" program. –0–
