BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhua) — The 5th China-Mongolia Expo will be held from Aug. 25 to 29, 2025 in Hohhot, capital of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Deputy Minister of Commerce Yan Dong said at a press conference on Wednesday.

The Expo, which is co-hosted by the governments of China and Mongolia every two years, is open to participants from all over the world, he said.

As an important event for promoting economic and trade relations between the two countries, the 5th China-Mongolia Expo will be themed "Deepening Mutually Beneficial Cooperation, Promoting Win-Win," he said.

The upcoming expo will focus on regional development, openness and diversity, Yan Dong stressed, adding that the expo will aim to build a new platform for China's northward expansion, form a new hub for developing regional industrial and supply chains, and create a new fulcrum for regional cooperation in Northeast Asia.

According to Chinese statistics, in 2024, foreign trade turnover between China and Mongolia reached a record high of 18.62 billion US dollars, up 10.1 percent year on year, Yan Dong emphasized.

Thanks to the joint efforts of both sides, the range of mutual investments continues to expand, covering not only traditional manufacturing but also emerging sectors such as the digital economy and green energy.

The parties jointly promoted the modernization of the cross-border economic cooperation zone, cross-border railways and border crossing infrastructure, achieving positive progress in these areas.

Over the years, China has assisted Mongolia in implementing numerous infrastructure, manufacturing and livelihood projects, and provided training for more than 9,700 personnel in various fields, contributing to Mongolia's economic and social development.

Let us recall that more than 3,000 enterprises from 35 countries and regions of the world took part in the 4th China-Mongolia EXPO. -0-

HARBIN, July 30 (Xinhua) — Chinese and Russian zoologists on Tuesday jointly released a guide to dealing with tigers on the occasion of the 15th International Tiger Day, which aims to mitigate the conflict between homo sapiens and predators in connection with the restoration and expansion of the Amur tiger population in northeastern China, and provide a scientific approach to achieving harmonious coexistence between them.

The document, titled “Resolving the Conflict between Humans and Tigers: Rules of Human Behavior When Encountering Tigers,” was released by the China-Russia Joint Research Laboratory for the Protection and Restoration of Amur Tigers. It is the latest brainchild of collaboration between Chinese and Russian zoologists from the laboratory, which was founded in 2024 on the initiative of the Cat Research Center of Northeast Forestry University of China and the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The document was developed taking into account the latest research results from Russia and the international scientific community in the field of preventing and controlling the conflict between humans and tigers. The document defines the “principles of harmonious coexistence between humans and tigers” as the main focus of efforts, emphasizing that the key to solving the problem is not the desire to completely eliminate the said conflict, but to ensure the joint sustainable use of landscape conditions and natural resources by humans and wild animals, for which all layers of society – from the state to local residents – should actively take appropriate regulatory steps.

Taking into full account the actual situation in northeastern China, the document provided systematic recommendations in four aspects: early warning, precautionary measures, emergency response and compensation mechanism. Its authors hope that the release of this memo will improve the efficiency of Amur tiger conservation in China, as well as more effectively ensure the safety and well-being of the population living in the Amur tiger habitat of more than 40 thousand square kilometers.

Amur tigers, also known as Siberian or Manchurian tigers, are listed as one of the ten most endangered species on the planet. They are currently found mainly in the Russian Far East and northeastern China. According to the latest data released by the end of 2024, thanks to the continuous efforts of the Chinese government, including the establishment of the Amur Tiger and Leopard National Park, the number of wild Amur tigers in China has stabilized at around 70 individuals. -0-

BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhua) — State Council Taiwan Affairs Office Spokesperson Chen Binhua expressed strong opposition at a press conference on Wednesday to Taiwan Chief Executive Lai Qingde's attempts to make a "transit stop" in the United States under any pretext or in any form.

Chen Binhua was thus commenting on media reports that the American side refused to allow Lai Qingde's "transit" trip through New York as part of his planned visit to some South American countries in August this year.

Mainland China firmly opposes any form of official contact between the US and Taiwan, Chen Binhua confirmed.

He said the United States should strictly abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-US joint communiques, handle Taiwan-related issues with extreme caution, and stop sending any false signals to separatist forces advocating "Taiwan independence."

Chen Binhua also sternly warned the Taiwan administration that any attempt to achieve “Taiwan independence” by relying on the United States is just a waste of energy that will end in failure. -0-
