BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — Various specialty products from Central Asia have attracted many visitors at the trade fair and exhibition area of the China-Central Asia Flowing Trade Cooperation Platform in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province.

The 23,000-square-meter platform is playing a growing role in strengthening trade and economic ties between Jiangsu Province, a major provincial economy in China, and Central Asian countries, according to local media.

Let us recall that this platform is not new: it is about upgrading the level of the Jiangsu Central Asian Countries Center, which was established by the holding corporation Jiangsu SOHO Holdings Group Co., Ltd jointly with the government of Xuanwu District of Nanjing City and officially began operating in September 2024.

It integrates functions such as product display and sales, trade services, technical exchanges and cultural exhibition, and provides comprehensive services for Central Asian enterprises in the field of investment and trade cooperation in China.

Thanks to the 2025 Jiangsu/Astana Import and Export Expo held in June this year, Jiangsu technology company TOVEA established cooperation with partners from Central Asian countries for the first time.

According to TOVEA's director Wu Xudong, he has visited the Jiangsu Central Asian Countries Center many times since its establishment. Through the policy interpretation and market analysis services provided by the center, he became familiar with the huge potential of the Central Asian countries' optical communication markets and decided to start developing the markets in this region.

“Central Asian countries have rich resource advantages, and Jiangsu has obvious advantages in the textile and clothing industry, photovoltaic module production, goods for pregnant women, infants and young children and other industries needed by Central Asian countries,” SOHO Holdings Group noted, calling the prospects for cooperation between Jiangsu Province and Central Asia very broad in the fields of trade and investment, environmentally friendly agriculture and international logistics.

In addition, according to the corporation, it also independently created and launched the “Silk Road” e-commerce platform, which has attracted more than 100 enterprises from Jiangsu Province, becoming an important terminal for local enterprises to enter the markets of Central Asian countries.

According to statistics from Nanjing Customs, in the first half of 2025, Jiangsu Province's export volume to five Central Asian countries was 11.099 billion yuan, up 25.8 percent year on year.

"As a province occupying an important strategic position at a nodal point along the Belt and Road, Jiangsu has the responsibility to build a higher-level cooperation bridge and attract more regions in China to carry out trade exchanges with Central Asia and Belt and Road countries," the provincial commerce department said. -0-

BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — The China Lunar Exploration and Space Engineering Center under the National Administration of Space Industry has released a list of the ninth batch of approved applications for borrowing lunar samples for exploration, allowing applicants to obtain samples collected and returned by China's Chang'e-5 and Chang'e-6 probes.

As it became known, a total of 30,881.8 milligrams of lunar samples will be provided to 32 responsible persons from 25 research institutes.

The list includes such universities as Macao University, Chengdu Institute of Technology, Donghua University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Hong Kong University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, etc.

The list also includes institutions affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, and the China Institute of Atomic Energy.

As reported, the Chang'e-6 mission collected 1,935.3 grams of lunar samples for the first time in human history from the far side of the Moon, and the Chang'e-5 lunar mission collected about 1,731 grams of lunar samples.

In July 2021, China delivered the first batch of lunar samples to scientific research institutions. So far, China has provided eight batches of lunar samples to such organizations for research purposes.

Last month, China released a series of research results from Chinese scientists studying samples collected by the Chang'e-6 lunar mission, in categories including volcanic activity, the moon's ancient magnetic field, and the water content and geochemical characteristics of the lunar mantle. -0-

Moscow, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) — Russia no longer considers itself bound by self-imposed restrictions on the deployment of intermediate- and shorter-range missiles (INF), and the conditions for maintaining this moratorium have disappeared, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

“The situation is developing along the path of the actual deployment of American-made land-based intermediate-range missiles in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region (APR),” the department said in a statement on the issue of a moratorium on the deployment of land-based intermediate-range missiles.

The diplomatic department drew attention to the West's steps to deploy the INF and emphasized that they pose a direct threat to Russia's security. According to the statement, since 2023 Moscow has been recording precedents of transferring American systems capable of ground-based INF launches to European NATO countries to test these weapons during exercises.

“With regard to the Asia-Pacific region, we note that under the pretext of exercises in April 2024, the Typhon medium-range missile system was delivered to the Philippines, which is still on the archipelago. The same system was used in July of this year in Australia for live firing during the Talisman Sabre 2025 multilateral training events,” the statement says.

The ministry recalled that the Russian side made a direct call to NATO countries in 2019-2020 to declare a reciprocal moratorium on the deployment of weapons systems previously banned under the INF Treaty, and to US allies in the Asia-Pacific region to support efforts to prevent a race for such weapons in the region.

“Since our repeated warnings on this matter have been ignored… the Russian Foreign Ministry notes the disappearance of the conditions for maintaining a unilateral moratorium on the deployment of similar weapons and is authorized to declare that the Russian Federation no longer considers itself bound by the corresponding previously adopted self-restrictions,” the Foreign Ministry stated.

The INF Treaty was signed in 1987 in Washington and is of indefinite duration. It prohibits the parties from having land-based ballistic missiles and cruise missiles with a range of 500 to 5.5 thousand km. The United States has repeatedly accused Russia of violating this treaty. –0–

BEIJING, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) — Chinese companies showed steady growth in sales revenue in the first half of 2025, according to value-added tax invoices for the first half of the year released by the General Administration of Taxation.

In particular, in January-June, sales revenues in the manufacturing industry grew by 1.5 percentage points faster than the overall national figure, which confirms the importance of this sector as one of the main pillars of national economic growth.

During the reporting period, the development of new quality productive forces also gained momentum: sales revenues from high-tech sectors grew by 14.3 percent year-on-year.

Machinery purchases nationwide rose 11.1 percent in the first half of the year, driven by the national equipment renewal program, and maintained the rapid growth seen in 2024. The consumer goods trade-in program boosted demand for related products, leading to a sharp rise in retail sales.

At the same time, as the data showed, according to the results of the first half of the year, interregional sales accounted for 40.7 percent of all sales revenues in the country, which reflects steady progress in the formation of a single national market. –0–

Authorities have closed 201 tourist areas, 3,480 guest houses and 245 camping areas to visitors. In addition, work has been suspended at more than 3,200 construction sites across the city.

The Beijing Meteorological Department issued a red alert for heavy rain on Monday afternoon, the highest level in China's four-tier warning system. Forecasters said heavy rain was possible across the city from midday on August 4 to the morning of August 5.

Beijing has also activated its highest level of flood emergency response.

Meanwhile, the capital's water management department and meteorological service issued a joint flood warning, with Miyun District identified as the most vulnerable area, and Fangshan, Mentougou and Huairou districts also at risk.

Residents were urged to take shelter during thunderstorms, avoid driving on flooded roads and stay away from high ground and rivers.

On Monday, China's National Flood and Drought Control Headquarters raised the flood emergency response to Level 3 (the third-highest in the nation's four-tier system) in Beijing, Tianjin Municipality, Hebei Province and Guangdong Province.

Heavy rains are forecast in the four regions mentioned above from the evening of August 4 to August 5, with showers expected in some places.
