JAKARTA, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — The Chinese Consulate General in Denpasar on the Indonesian island of Bali confirmed on Tuesday that two Chinese citizens were killed when a boat capsized off the coast of Bali earlier in the day.

Denpasar Search and Rescue Authority chief I Nyoman Sidakarya said the incident occurred around 3pm local time when the Dolphin II speedboat, which was en route from Nusa Penida Port to Sanur Port, was hit by a large wave and capsized near its destination.

As I Nyoman Sidakarya specified, there were 75 passengers on board, including 73 foreign tourists, as well as five crew members. As a result of the incident, two people died, one is missing, and another 77 people were rescued.

Following the incident, the local search and rescue service sent inflatable boats and a rescue team to the scene. The search for one missing person is ongoing.

The Chinese Consulate General said it had immediately activated an emergency response mechanism and was in close contact with Indonesian authorities, taking necessary measures to resolve the consequences of the incident.

The consulate urged Chinese citizens in Indonesia to monitor sea conditions and take precautions when traveling. –0–

OSLO, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — Norway, Sweden and Denmark have unveiled a joint military aid package for Ukraine that includes much-needed U.S.-made weapons under a NATO-coordinated initiative, the Norwegian government announced Tuesday.

Three Nordic countries will jointly finance one of the first aid packages under a new U.S. initiative called the Ukraine Priority Needs List (PURL) aimed at accelerating the delivery of critical military equipment to Ukraine.

Under the plan, Ukraine will receive American-made air defense systems, including additional missiles for the Patriot anti-aircraft system.

Norway will initially contribute NOK 1.5 billion (US$146 million), with the total package, jointly provided by Sweden and Denmark, estimated at around NOK 5 billion. –0–

KYIV, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Telegram on Tuesday that he had a productive phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, discussing the two countries' security cooperation.

According to V. Zelensky, the key topic of the conversation was ways to end the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict, including the introduction of sanctions against the Russian Federation.

BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — China has issued a policy document to strengthen financial support for new-type industrialization, the People's Bank of China (PBOC) said Tuesday.

A document released by the PBOC and six other government departments said China should have a broadly defined financial system in place by 2027 that supports advanced, intelligent and green manufacturing.

According to the directive, by 2027, the effective credit demand of manufacturing enterprises must be fully satisfied, while achieving sustainable growth in the volume of issuance and the number of issuers of bonds of manufacturing enterprises, as well as significant progress in equity financing.

The document provides for the optimization of financial instruments to promote breakthroughs in key technologies, attracting long-term assets and developing “patient capital” for the purpose of accelerating the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements. BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — China's Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration issued the highest "red" alert on Tuesday evening over the threat of mountain torrents as heavy rains continued in parts of the country.

According to the above-mentioned departments, there is a high probability of mountain torrents in the central and western regions of Guangdong Province (South China) from 8:00 p.m. on August 5 to 8:00 p.m. on August 6.

Both agencies also issued orange alerts for torrential rains in some other parts of Guangdong province and south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

It is noted that short-term heavy rains can trigger the formation of mountain streams in other regions as well.

NEW DELHI, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — Four people were killed and over 50 were missing after heavy rain hit a village in Uttarkashi district of India's hilly north Uttarakhand state on Tuesday.

The downpour caused landslides and widespread flooding, a local official said.

Television footage showed a powerful stream of mud pouring down a hill, washing away several buildings in its path. Several people were reportedly buried under the mud and debris.

According to the latest reports, rescue teams have arrived in the affected area and work is underway to extract people from the rubble.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — The European Union is "too weak" in negotiations with the United States on new tariffs, German Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil said Monday during a visit to Washington.

"I think we were too weak. We cannot be satisfied with the result achieved," L. Klingbeil told reporters before a meeting with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

The German minister's statement was a comment on the agreement reached late last month by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and US President Donald Trump. Under the deal, most EU imports to the US will be subject to a 15% tariff, while the EU will also increase its purchases of US energy resources and its investments in the US.

Moscow, August 5 /Xinhua/ — Russia does not consider US threats against India to be legitimate, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday. This is how he commented on the reaction of the Indian Foreign Ministry to US demands: the ministry stressed that India will defend its national interests and will not stop importing Russian oil despite US threats.
