HARBIN, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — The number of visitors to the 23rd Harbin International Beer Festival, which kicked off on July 5, 2025, was 1.014 million, organizers of the event said, citing data as of the evening of Aug. 3.

The beer festival has become one of the most exciting cultural events of this summer in Harbin. At the festival, in an area of 400 thousand square meters, up to a thousand varieties of beer from more than 10 countries are presented, giving everyone the opportunity to find something to their taste. In addition, visitors are offered an extensive cultural program: concerts, a parade of flower platforms, fireworks, a drone show, sports competitions, exhibitions of retro cars, Russian painting and much more. Also within the framework of the festival, an open-air camp is organized, where you can relax with the whole family and drink beer.

As city authorities had previously promised, the current festival should become the largest, most international and multifaceted of all previous ones. And, apparently, the organizers are succeeding in this. -0-

BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — China plans to abolish fees for care and tuition of children in public kindergartens for the last year before entering primary school starting from the fall semester of 2025, according to guidelines released by the State Council on Tuesday.

According to the document, this step is aimed at effectively reducing education costs and improving the quality of educational services in the country.

Children who attend private kindergartens will also have their fees for care and education reduced in line with the reduction in fees in local public preschools.

Financial authorities will provide subsidies to kindergartens to compensate for the reduction in their income due to the new policy.

The document also calls on local authorities to further strengthen support measures for categories such as children from low-income families, orphans and children with disabilities.

Financial and educational departments at all levels should improve fund management and allocate funds in a timely manner and in full to ensure the normal operation of preschool institutions.

The recommendations also noted that China will improve its policy of providing free pre-school education in due course, taking into account factors such as changes in the number of school-age children. -0-

NEW YORK, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that tariffs on U.S. imports of microchips and pharmaceuticals will be imposed "in the next week or so."

“We’ll put a small tariff on pharmaceuticals first,” Trump said in an interview with CNBC. “But in a year, a year and a half at the most, it’ll go up to 150 percent, and then to 250 percent, because we want pharmaceuticals to be made in our country.”

According to the American leader, a statement will also be made in the near future on the issue of duties on semiconductor products and microcircuits.

D. Trump added that his plans to introduce customs duties are still far from complete.

The announcement comes days after the U.S. administration imposed new tariffs on imports from a number of countries. They followed the release of a disappointing July jobs report on Aug. 1 that not only missed market expectations but also included downward revisions to employment figures for both June and May. –0–

Moscow, August 5 (Xinhua) — The BRICS motor rally from Yekaterinburg to Moscow will take place from August 9 to 15, the organizers of the motor rally announced at a press conference in Moscow on Tuesday.

The event is timed to coincide with the opening of a new section of the M-12 "Vostok" highway Dyurtyuli – Achit. The section, more than 275 km long, opened in mid-July, became a continuation of the high-speed highway from St. Petersburg to Yekaterinburg.

Of course, the launch of this project will have a huge socio-economic effect on the entire transport system of the country," said Igor Koval, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Russian state company "Avtodor". According to him, the key objective of the motor rally is to demonstrate to foreign partners the achievements in the development of the road and transport infrastructure of Russia.

The 1,600 km route will pass through the territory of six Russian regions. During the motor rally, business and cultural events are planned, during which participants will be able to get acquainted with the industrial, investment, tourism and cultural potential of the subjects of the Russian Federation.

As Chairman of the Union of Chinese Entrepreneurs in Russia Zhou Liqun emphasized, the upcoming BRICS motor rally is an event of high international level. He reported that many Chinese companies operating in Russia supported this project. “The motor rally is not only an example of business cooperation, but also humanitarian and cultural interaction between Russia, China and the BRICS countries. I sincerely wish that the BRICS motor rally will unite us not only as a business community, but also as true friends,” he added, proposing to make this event annual.

The main organizers of the motor rally were the National Association of Infrastructure Companies (NAIC) and the state company Avtodor. The project was supported by the BRICS Business Council, the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. –0–
