MINSK, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — Belarus and China share a common position on protecting and preserving historical truth, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergei Lukashevich said in an interview with Xinhua in Minsk.

S. Lukashevich noted the importance of China's contribution to the fight against the fascist coalition, in particular, to the fight against aggression from militaristic Japan. "We understand this very well in Belarus because every third resident of Belarus was killed during the Great Patriotic War. I truly believe that historical truth is a very important element for the peoples of Belarus and China. It can be used to build a literate and educated society. The theme of victory over the fascists – German and Japanese – unites us. We value what was done by our ancestors. If the peoples had not united in the fight against fascism then, many things would not have happened now,” the Xinhua interlocutor noted.

In his opinion, it was the diligence of the Chinese people that helped China to survive in the fight against Japanese aggression. “I would like to note that the diligence of the Chinese people allows them to move towards a bright future, and it deserves deep respect from both the world community and Belarus. KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — Cambodia and Thailand reached consensus on the details of a ceasefire and signed a relevant agreement at an extraordinary meeting of the bilateral General Committee on Boundary Issues held in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

The meeting was attended by officials from Cambodia and Thailand, as well as representatives from China, Malaysia and the United States as third-party observers.

According to a joint statement following the talks held at the Malaysian Ministry of Defence, the parties agreed to a comprehensive ceasefire, including a ban on the use of all types of weapons against civilians, civilian objects and military targets, pledged to avoid unprovoked shelling of each other's positions and troops, and not to increase military presence along the border.

The parties agreed to maintain the current deployment of troops without further movements, as was the case at the time of the conclusion of the ceasefire from 00:00 on July 29. In addition, they committed to ensure proper treatment of prisoners of war in accordance with international humanitarian law.

Both sides expressed support for a mechanism for an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) observer group led by Malaysia to monitor the ceasefire. The temporary observer mission, consisting of defense attaches from ASEAN countries, would be deployed to Cambodia and Thailand.

Speaking at a briefing after the talks, Acting Thai Defense Minister Natthaphon Nhakphanit said the meeting was crucial to bilateral relations and regional peace. He expressed hope that the current meeting would help build cooperation with Cambodia to ensure long-term peace.

Cambodian Defense Minister Thea Seykha, in turn, assured that Cambodia will do everything possible to implement the consensus reached and will continue to maintain close coordination and interaction, demonstrating a constructive approach to regional peace.

Malaysian Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail noted that both countries expressed their commitment to the principles in force within the ASEAN framework.

“In ASEAN, we believe in resolving disputes through consensus, without confrontation, based on trust, mutual respect and the spirit of non-interference. We are strengthening our regional cohesion, and this ASEAN spirit guides us today and will continue to guide us on our path forward,” he stressed.

On July 24, Cambodian and Thai troops clashed in a disputed border area. On July 28, the two countries agreed to a ceasefire that went into effect at midnight. –0–

ALMATY, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — The final report on the investigation into the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane near the Kazakh city of Aktau may be published by the end of 2025, the Kazinform news agency reported on Thursday, citing Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev.

According to K. Bozumbayev, international experts from different countries are participating in the investigation. “Part of the equipment is still abroad for examination, it will return soon… In a few months there will be a final report,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

He expressed his reluctance to politicize the question of how the plane was damaged. In his opinion, these questions should be answered by an explosive expert examination conducted by law enforcement agencies.

"As far as I know, they have sent requests to other countries that have various types of weapons with the same striking elements that were found in the fuselage of the crashed plane. TEHRAN, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Thursday appointed his new representatives to the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) and the newly established National Defense Council.

According to statements published on the Supreme Leader’s website, by separate decrees, A. Khamenei appointed former secretaries of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian and Ali Shamkhani as his representatives in the National Defense Council, and the current secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani as his representative in this body.

On August 5, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian appointed Supreme Leader's Senior Advisor and former Parliament Speaker A. Larijani as Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council. A. Larijani replaced A. Ahmadian, who held the post since May 2023.

BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — China expresses deep sorrow over the death of former Romanian President Ion Iliescu, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said Thursday.

Guo Jiakun pointed out that I. Iliescu, a prominent leader of Romania and an old friend of the Chinese people, made significant contributions to the development of China-Romania relations and the friendly cooperation between the two countries.

“We deeply mourn the passing of former President Iliescu and express our sincere condolences to the Romanian government and people, as well as to the family of the deceased,” the official representative added.

Moscow, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — Russian President Vladimir Putin said that both he and the United States expressed interest in meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.

BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — China's foreign exchange reserves stood at 3.2922 trillion U.S. dollars as of the end of July 2025, down 25.2 billion U.S. dollars or 0.76 percent from the level at the end of June this year, data released by the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) showed Thursday.

The US dollar index rose last month, while global financial asset prices generally showed mixed movements, influenced by factors such as macroeconomic data, monetary policy and expectations of leading economies, the GUVK reported.

The department said the decline in China's foreign exchange reserves in July was due to fluctuations in exchange rates and changes in asset prices.
