CHONGQING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — As more than 5,000 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) took to the night sky over southwest China's Chongqing Municipality in various patterns, the crowd of spectators went wild, applauding and shouting "This is so beautiful!"

Since mid-April 2025, the downtown area of Chongqing, where the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers meet, has been hosting stunning drone light shows on Saturdays. This amazing event has become the city's "calling card", breathing new life into the tourism industry and giving new impetus to the city's development.

As it turned out, on June 17 this year, Chongqing broke the Guinness World Record for the largest number of drones flying at the same time: that evening, more than 100 thousand local residents and tourists were treated to a mesmerizing spectacle involving over 11,787 drones.

“The drone light show perfectly matches Chongqing’s stunning nightscapes, and the drone images also reflect the city’s unique characteristics. It’s truly a visual feast!” said Tong Cheng, a tourist from Shandong Province, eastern China.

Numerous drone shows have not only lit up Chongqing's night sky, but have also brought tangible economic benefits, boosting the city's growing night-time economy.

"Although such light shows last only 20 minutes on average, the consumer excitement they generate lasts all night," said Li Jingliang, who is in charge of the drone show in Chongqing.

Pei Zongquan, a restaurant owner near the venue, has witnessed the new boom in tourism. “The show starts at 9pm every day, but most visitors start arriving at around 5pm. They hang out here for a long time, and there’s no end to them until around 11pm,” he said.

Data shows that since the drone show began regularly this year, the total consumption volume has exceeded 350 million yuan (about 49.03 million US dollars).

Behind the above mentioned successes is the technical team that is busy organizing such a magnificent UAV show. To the surprise of many, 5000 drones are controlled by just one person on one computer.

According to Li Jingliang, the director of the drone show, the secret to the perfect collaboration of drones is real-time control and information sharing between drones. Each drone is equipped with advanced sensors that can accurately determine the necessary information about itself and other drones, including location, speed and orientation, and installed communication devices ensure that this information is quickly shared between drones. Then, based on this information and a pre-set grouping algorithm, the drones calculate their flight paths and movements, achieving precise coordinated flight.

Meanwhile, another remarkable feature of the unique charm of Chongqing drone show is the ever-evolving creative design, which incorporates elements such as local attractions, colorful local cuisine, and festival motifs. The original shows always have something new to offer, which never fails to attract and surprise tourists.

BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — A group of prosecutors from Uzbekistan will undergo training on the basis of judicial cooperation and exchanges among Central Asian countries in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in October this year, becoming the first batch of Central Asian prosecutor trainees, the Zhongxinwang online portal reported, citing a source in the Xinjiang branch of the National Academy of Prosecutors (NAP).

This base will be put into operation in the near future after the construction is completed, said Wei Min, deputy head of the above-mentioned educational institution.

The Uzbek audience is looking forward to the trip and hopes that by visiting Xinjiang and seeing it with their own eyes, they will be able to gain a deeper understanding of China's prosecutorial system and related practices, he said.

As it became known, training buildings, dormitories for foreign cadets and other facilities have been built at the base, located on the territory of the Xinjiang branch of the GAP of the PRC. The base can simultaneously train 300 prosecutors.

In the context of international legal cooperation, the People's Procuratorate of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has also been actively working on developing the Central Asian countries' judicial and procuratorial research base. After the approval of the establishment of this base in 2024, the People's Procuratorate of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, together with Xinjiang University and related research institutes, conducted a comprehensive study on the procuratorial system and legal system of Central Asian countries and translated relevant literature, filling the research gap in this area.

“Previously, within the SCO, we and the Central Asian countries have developed a number of cooperation mechanisms to combat terrorism, separatism and extremism, as well as drug smuggling. In light of the new situation, these countries are now very interested in working together to combat cross-border telecommunications fraud, as well as borrowing China’s experience in artificial intelligence, digital prosecution and informatization,” Wei Min concluded. -0-

UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — China's permanent representative to the United Nations Fu Cong on Sunday expressed grave concern over Israel's plan to seize Gaza City, saying any attempt to seize part of Palestinian territory must be resolutely stopped.

The Israeli security cabinet's approval of the plan to seize Gaza City is "a matter of grave concern," Fu Tsung said at a rare emergency meeting on the Israeli-Palestinian issue held by the UN Security Council over the weekend, calling on Israel to "immediately stop this dangerous action."

At this meeting, Israel's plan to seize Gaza City drew widespread protest and condemnation from the majority of Security Council members.

"Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people. It is an integral part of the Palestinian territory. Any action aimed at changing the demographic and territorial structure must be met with extreme rejection and resistance," the Chinese diplomat stressed.

According to him, military means are not the way to resolve the protracted conflict, and an immediate ceasefire is the only correct way to save lives and ensure the release of hostages. He called on the Israeli government to heed the calls of the international community and its own people, to immediately stop the escalation of tensions, as well as military operations in Gaza.

“Countries that have significant influence on the parties to the conflict must take a fair and responsible position and take concrete steps to facilitate the achievement of a ceasefire,” he added.

Fu Cong also called on Israel to fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law as an occupying power: open all border crossings, lift restrictions on humanitarian access, allow large-scale, rapid and safe delivery of humanitarian supplies to Gaza, and support the UN in its delivery of aid in accordance with humanitarian principles.

The Chinese representative called the implementation of the “two states for two peoples” principle “the only viable way to resolve the Palestinian issue and achieve peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel.” He called on the international community to “redouble efforts to advance the political process of realizing the “two states for two peoples” principle and jointly oppose any unilateral steps that undermine its foundation.”

China is willing to work side by side with the world to help end the war in Gaza, alleviate the humanitarian disaster and realize the principle of "two states for two peoples" to finally achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue, Fu Cong concluded. –0–

WELLINGTON, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — The New Zealand government will make a formal decision in September on whether to recognize the State of Palestine, Foreign Minister Winston Peters said on Monday.

"Over the next month, the government will carefully consider its position on the issue of recognition of the State of Palestine," the New Zealand government said in a statement, quoting Peters.

New Zealand will make its decision based on careful assessment and guided by its own principles, values and national interests, the minister said, adding that it was only a matter of time before New Zealand recognised Palestine.

“The humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza is rightly the focus of the global community’s attention,” said Peters, who said he had given the cabinet an oral report on the issue, with a full discussion planned for September.

The diplomat stressed the need to assess whether the security, political, diplomatic and economic conditions currently exist for the creation of a viable and legitimate Palestinian state.

He will present New Zealand's position at the end of September. –0–

COLOMBO, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — The Maldives Monetary Authority has revised its tourism forecast for 2025 to a record 2.3 million, state-run PSM News reported Sunday.

The agency said in May it expected international arrivals to total 2.2 million. The revision was based on a strong first half of the year, when international arrivals increased 9.1 percent year-on-year. By the end of June, 1,108,130 tourists had visited the country.

In addition, the agency is forecasting a record 2.4 million tourist arrivals next year.

The data show that by mid-year the total number of hospital bed days reached 6,892,533, which is 1.2 percent more than in the same period last year.

The agency said favourable market conditions and recent infrastructure improvements, including the opening of a new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport, supported its revised forecasts. -0-

PYONGYANG, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — North Korean Minister of National Defense No Gwang-chol has condemned the large-scale joint military exercises between the United States and the Republic of Korea scheduled for Aug. 18, saying the move would pose a serious threat to security on the Korean Peninsula, state media reported Monday.

"The Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise will be held under simulated conditions of a real nuclear war, and it is not only a direct military provocation against the DPRK but also a real threat that will increase the unpredictability of the situation on the Korean Peninsula, which is in a state of truce, and will perpetuate instability in the region," Noh Gwang Chol said in a press statement Sunday carried by the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

The DPRK strongly condemns the United States and the Republic of Korea for their provocative steps, which clearly demonstrate the stance of military confrontation with the DPRK and pose another serious challenge to the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and in the region, and solemnly warns both countries of the negative consequences, the DPRK defense minister said.

The unilateral military threat and attempt at confrontation by the United States and the Republic of Korea are the main reason why the situation on the Korean Peninsula and the surrounding region is changing negatively day by day, a senior military official said in a statement.

“A military demonstration against the DPRK will certainly have a boomerang effect, worsening the security of the US and the ROK,” KCNA quoted him as saying. –0–

BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — The China Coast Guard (CCG) took necessary measures to expel several Philippine maritime police vessels and service vessels from territorial waters off China's Huangyan Dao Island in accordance with relevant laws and regulations on Monday, said CCG spokesperson Gan Yu.

According to Gan Yu, Philippine vessels persistently entered the specified waters of the South China Sea under the pretext of supplying fishing vessels, ignoring repeated warnings and cautions from the Chinese side.

In response, the BOC ships took necessary measures to displace the Philippine vessels in accordance with the law, including tracking, monitoring and blocking. All actions by the Chinese side on the ground were professional, standardized and legal, Gan Yu said.

Huangyan Dao Island is an inalienable part of China's territory, and the BOC will continue to carry out law enforcement activities to protect rights and ensure law and order in the waters around Huangyan Dao Island, resolutely safeguarding China's territorial sovereignty as well as its maritime rights and interests, Gan Yu concluded. -0-

BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — The Longjiang No. 1 warehouse for Russian goods in Suifenhe City, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, has been sending out about 4,000 orders daily in recent weeks. The figure is expected to exceed 10,000 when the peak sales season arrives in October, according to information posted on the Suifenhe city government website recently.

As one of the important hubs of China-Russia border trade, Longjiang No.1 Warehouse attracts a large number of consumers with its highly efficient supply chain and ability to supply high-quality Russian goods.

As orders continue to grow rapidly, more workers will be hired to work at the warehouse, which in turn will help boost employment in the city and the local economy, the warehouse administration said.

In the future, Longjiang No.1 Warehouse Management plans to improve the supply chain and increase distribution efficiency to meet the high consumer demand for Russian goods.

It is worth recalling that Longjiang No.1 Warehouse was opened in Suifenhe in November 2024 by Tianfusheng International Logistics Company. Suifenhe City Hall intends to use this warehouse to establish cooperative relationships with Russian goods suppliers, relevant distributors and traders, as well as e-commerce workers throughout China, so as to enhance Suifenhe's influence as a collection and distribution center for Russian-made goods. -0-
