TEHRAN, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan exchanged views on the recent peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement noted that during a telephone conversation on Monday, the parties discussed issues of bilateral relations, as well as the latest events in the South Caucasus.

A. Araghchi welcomed the signing of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington on August 8, noting a number of Iran's concerns regarding transport routes and unblocking transit networks in the region.

He drew attention to the clause in the agreement, according to which the United States receives exclusive rights to create and develop a large transit corridor through southern Armenia, which will directly connect Azerbaijan with its exclave, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and further with Turkey. The Iranian Foreign Minister stressed that this corridor should not lead to any geopolitical changes in the region or disrupt Iran's access to other transit routes.

A. Araghchi stressed that when making any decisions, it is necessary to respect the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of states. He added that any agreement should take into account issues of stability and security in the region and neighboring countries.

The Armenian Foreign Minister, for his part, stated that his country views Iran as a friend and neighbor, emphasizing that Yerevan attaches priority importance to maintaining friendly relations with Tehran, “based on the principle of good neighborliness” and the mutual interests of both sides.

A. Mirzoyan informed the Iranian Foreign Minister about the details of the peace agreement, the agreements on unblocking regional transport routes, as well as the upcoming steps to implement the relevant agreements. He assured that Armenia will take into account regional peace and stability, as well as common interests, when making any decisions regarding transport routes.

Armenia and Azerbaijan have been at odds over Nagorno-Karabakh since 1988 and have been holding peace talks since 1994, when a ceasefire was agreed upon despite periodic clashes.

On August 8, the two leaders witnessed the initialing of a peace agreement at the White House, ending a decades-long border conflict. Steps are now needed to finally sign and ratify the agreement. –0–

Moscow, August 12 /Xinhua/ — The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia has thwarted an attempt to blow up a high-ranking officer of the Ministry of Defense, the FSB Public Relations Center reported.

According to the Russian FSB, the explosion was prepared by a 36-year-old “agent of the Ukrainian special services under the pseudonym Voron, recruited in the territory of a third country.”

The detainee received instructions from his handler via the Telegram messenger to make a homemade explosive device and hide it in a car bought with money from the Ukrainian special services. The man was going to blow up a car filled with 60 kg of explosives in the immediate vicinity of the victim. He was detained on the way to the site of the planned terrorist attack.

During interrogation, he said that he came from Ukraine to Russia in 2023 to avoid mobilization in his homeland. He later received Russian citizenship, after which Ukrainian special services contacted him.

Chairman of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC), Director of the Russian FSB Alexander Bortnikov on Tuesday noted an increase in terrorist crimes committed by people who fell under the influence of Ukrainian special services. According to the NAC, 172 terrorist acts have already been prevented in Russia this year.

“This year alone, coordinated actions by security forces have prevented 172 terrorist attacks aimed at damaging critical and social infrastructure, as well as attacks on military personnel and government officials… The threat from terrorist movements is not decreasing,” the NAC RF said in a statement. –0–

Western media claims about China's excess capacity and heavy dependence on exports are false narratives – Chinese Ambassador to Russia

Moscow, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) — Some Western politicians and media outlets have recently made frequent references to China's "overcapacity," its "state subsidies to industries," and its "export dependence." These statements are typical false narratives and demonstrate double standards, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui said in an article published in the Argumenty i Fakty newspaper on Tuesday.

“Statements like ‘large export volumes mean overproduction’, ‘the competitiveness of Chinese goods in the global market is based on government subsidies’ or ‘China’s economic growth depends on exports’ are seriously misleading,” the ambassador notes.

According to him, China's capacity utilization rate is at a reasonable level, and global demand for high-quality Chinese products remains robust. From 2017 to 2023, China's manufacturing capacity utilization rate was 76.5 percent, comparable to the U.S.'s 77.2 percent.

The article notes that China, as one of the most competitive markets in the world, has formed globally competitive production and supply chains. China's industrial subsidy policy strictly complies with the rules of the World Trade Organization, focuses mainly on R&D and consumption promotion, so it is impossible to simply interpret Chinese subsidies as unfair competition and at the same time present Western subsidies as “industrial investment” or “drivers of green transformation,” the article notes.

The long-term stability and positive dynamics of the Chinese economy are ensured by a powerful domestic market: China has a market with a population of over 1.4 billion people and a middle class of over 400 million people, while the GDP per capita reaches 13 thousand US dollars. “China is experiencing the best period in terms of consumer demand growth,” Zhang Hanhui believes.

The article cites World Bank statistics, according to which in 2023, China's export share in GDP was only 19 percent, while in the Republic of Korea it was 44 percent, in Germany 43 percent, in France 34 percent, and in Japan 22 percent. This refutes the thesis about “China's dependence on exports” as frankly biased and subjective.

“Despite tariff wars, China’s development has not only not stopped, but has also achieved breakthroughs in areas such as microchips, artificial intelligence and quantum technologies,” the ambassador writes. At the same time, China has held the world lead in the production and sales of electric vehicles for 9 years in a row, and the share of solar module production exceeds 80 percent of the global total.

“The country has transformed itself from the ‘world’s factory’ into a ‘technology exporter’ and is leading an efficiency revolution, and any attempts to curb China’s progress through tariff wars and a scientific and technological blockade are ‘doomed to fail’,” the article emphasizes. –0–

BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) — At the ongoing 2025 World Robot Conference (WRC) in Beijing, international experts praised China's leading role in the global robotics industry and predicted significant growth in the future.

Jeff Bernstein, president of the American Association for the Advancement of Automation, predicted further expansion of the robotics sector in China.

“China is the world’s largest consumer of traditional robots, and if the humanoid robot market develops as expected, then innovation through investment will lead to more humanoid robots,” he said.

J. Bernstein emphasized that robotics is designed to transform jobs, not take them over. In his view, robots perform routine, dirty, and dangerous tasks, allowing people to do higher-paying, safer, and more prosperous work.

The five-day conference kicked off on Friday and features forums, exhibitions, competitions and workshops to share experiences, attracting more than 200 robotics companies and enterprises from around the world. The event’s exhibition stands showcase the latest models of humanoid robots, wheeled robots, collaborative robots, four-legged and six-legged robot dogs, as well as newly developed models with embodied intelligence.

According to J. Bernstein, events like these foster collaboration, spur innovation and help bring industry stakeholders together to agree on common goals.

Massimiliano Zecca, a professor at Loughborough University in the UK, noted China’s dominance in manufacturing, calling it “clearly the largest manufacturing country in the world” with outstanding robot capabilities. He stressed that he had seen this first-hand, adding that each year WRC exhibitors introduce several new models, not just one.

Mr Zecca called for cooperation between China and the UK, stressing the need for joint efforts to develop open standards and shared data sets. In his speech on robotics in elderly care, he noted that the sector could be a testing ground for cooperation between the two countries.

Vice President of euRobotics Juha Roning called China “the largest market for robots” due to its widespread use in industry. He described China’s achievements in robotics as “miraculous”, given its advances in artificial intelligence and robotics.

He also stressed the need for greater cooperation between Europe and China in the robotics supply chain. “I think if we can work together, it will be good for everyone,” he said.

NVIDIA Vice President of Omniverse and Simulation Technologies Rev Lebaredian noted in his speech that China has critical elements to launch the next technological revolution in robotics.

China has the world's largest pool of computer science and artificial intelligence graduates, he said, and unique advantages in developing physical-world technologies that allow it to produce robots that are both cost-effective and high-performance — capabilities that other countries do not have, he said.

Moreover, China's vast manufacturing ecosystem enables not only mass production but also rapid deployment and iteration based on real-world data collection, Rev Lebaredian added.

With the main theme of “Making robots more intelligent and embodied intelligent systems smarter,” the World Conference on Robotics 2025 was jointly organized by the China Institute of Electronics and the World Robotics Cooperation Organization. -0-
