MINSK, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) — The contribution of the Chinese people to the victory over fascism is enormous and without this struggle there would have been no common victory, Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Belarus Segodnya Publishing House Dmitry Zhuk told Xinhua in Minsk during the opening of a photo exhibition called "Remembering the Past, Creating the Future" in honor of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The exhibition opened in the Victory Hall of the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War.

D. Zhuk emphasized that this exhibition is stunning in its emotional impact. “There are photographs that make your blood run cold. This is evidence of the inhumane treatment of people that we cannot understand. These photographs show the full horror of war.”

"On the other hand, this exhibition demonstrates the unbroken spirit of the Chinese people, those heroes who defended their land and liberated it from Japanese fascism. This is very much in tune with our Belarusian perception of that anti-fascist war, which is called the Second World War or the World Anti-Fascist War. We sacredly honor the memory of all our veterans who fought on Chinese soil. The connection between the Belarusian and Chinese peoples is very important for the further maintenance of global peace," noted D. Zhuk.

He also noted the invaluable contribution of the Chinese people in the fight against the fascist coalition. “The number of lives that the Chinese people laid on the altar of victory cannot be estimated. It is priceless. The contribution of China, the Chinese people to the victory over fascism is enormous and without this fight there would have been no common victory. It is very important that in 1945 the Soviet and Chinese people fought shoulder to shoulder and won this victory together. For us, this is a very important part of our common history, which we have no right to forget,” D. Zhuk noted.

According to him, when real history is being replaced with fictitious events in order to take away historical memory from Belarusians and Chinese, among others, it is important to fight for its preservation. “It is especially important to preserve the truth in the minds of our young people. And thanks to our combined efforts, I am sure that in the future we will be able to avoid global catastrophes on our planet,” D. Zhuk noted.

The head of the publishing house "Belarus Today" emphasized that war is inhumane by its nature. That is why history, unfortunately, knows such examples as the destruction of Minsk and the Nanjing massacre.

"There were similar cities in other countries, which were essentially wiped off the face of the earth. Moreover, on Belarusian soil, more than 200 settlements were never restored after the war. Life never returned to these villages and towns, this is a huge tragedy. Today, we are trying to carefully pass on this memory. And when we see examples of such terrible atrocities in other countries, we understand that this is not only the history of Belarusians or the Belarusian people, this is a common human history. And we, each in our own country, have even less right to lose the knowledge and memory of these, albeit tragic, but still important for the future pages of our history," D. Zhuk summarized. -0-

KUNMING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) — The foreign ministers of China, the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Myanmar and Thailand held an informal meeting in Anning, southwest China's Yunnan Province, on Friday, reaffirming their willingness to help maintain stability in Myanmar and jointly combat cross-border crime.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, said the situation in Myanmar has generally stabilized since the first quadripartite meeting last year, with post-earthquake reconstruction efforts underway and efforts to safeguard the country's sovereignty, independence and national stability.

Wang Yi called for a "Myanmar-led and Myanmar-focused" approach, supporting the choice of its people and resolving differences through dialogue.

The Chinese Foreign Minister stressed the importance of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) mediation and assistance from neighboring countries, noting that ASEAN should remain the main channel and fully utilize mechanisms such as the informal meeting of foreign ministers and the meeting of foreign ministers of Myanmar's neighboring countries.

Wang also stressed the need to prioritize people's livelihood and development, support Myanmar in improving citizens' lives, recovering from the earthquake and advancing cooperation in various fields for the sake of the people, while warning that external forces could undermine stability in the region.

Myanmar Foreign Minister Than Swe expressed gratitude to China, Laos and Thailand for their support in addressing the challenges facing the country and reaffirmed his country's commitment to advancing the process of internal peace and national reconciliation through political dialogue. He said the country is actively preparing to hold transparent elections later this year to return power to the people.

Lao Foreign Minister Thongsavan Phomvihane, for his part, said his country supports the political process and elections that are “under Myanmar leadership and in Myanmar’s interests” with the aim of achieving peace, stability and national reconciliation.

Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangyampongsa said Thailand is ready to work with other ASEAN countries to support and assist Myanmar in holding elections based on the principle of non-interference in its internal affairs.

The foreign ministers of the four countries also exchanged views on joint efforts to combat cross-border crime.

Wang Yi stressed that combating such crimes is related to people's well-being, is a common interest of the four countries and requires coordinated action.

The Chinese Foreign Minister called for strengthening institution building, expanding joint operations and border control, enhancing capacity and coordination in law enforcement and security, and advancing transformational development and improving public governance.

The two sides agreed to deepen cooperation in law enforcement and security, step up the fight against cross-border crime, including online gambling, telecommunications fraud, drug trafficking, arms trafficking and human trafficking, and jointly safeguard peace and stability in the region. –0–

MINSK, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) — The Victory Hall of the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War hosted the opening of a photo exhibition titled "Remembering the Past, Creating the Future" dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War on Friday. More than 250 representatives of the Belarusian government and public organizations attended the ceremony.

The exhibition features about 70 unique historical and contemporary photographs demonstrating the enormous contribution of the Chinese nation to the victory over fascism, the key role of the Chinese Communist Party in the war of resistance, the touching friendship of the peoples of China and the USSR who fought shoulder to shoulder, as well as the striking results of comprehensive pragmatic cooperation between China and Belarus.

Xinhua News Agency Director General Fu Hua said in a video message that during the World Anti-Fascist War, all the world's forces of justice, including China and the Soviet Union, united in hatred of the common enemy, fought valiantly, shed blood and gave their lives to defend world peace and human progress.

“Today, 80 years later, China and Belarus are inheriting historical friendship, jointly upholding international justice, writing a new chapter in the all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership, promoting sustainable long-term development of interstate relations and mutually beneficial cooperation,” Fu Hua emphasized.

At the opening of the exhibition, First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Nikolai Snopkov noted that both the Belarusian and Chinese peoples paid a huge price for the victory over fascism in a terrible war.

"We sacredly honor and carefully preserve the memory of the soldiers, underground fighters and home front workers who brought the common victory closer more than eighty years ago. We remember with gratitude the names of the Chinese underground fighters who fought the fascists in the city of Vitebsk, and we honor the Belarusian heroes who gave their lives in the fight against the Japanese aggressors in the skies and on the soil of China. Their feat will not be forgotten in our countries," said N. Snopkov.

He also noted that this exhibition will allow everyone to discover a new facet of the history of friendship between Belarus and China, which is the basis for successful bilateral cooperation in the international arena and in building a community of shared destiny for humanity.

The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan noted that 80 years ago the Chinese people wrote a heroic page of history with their blood and lives. At that time, the destinies of the Chinese and Belarusian peoples were closely intertwined, supporting each other in the struggle.

"China and Belarus must remain the guardians of the truth about the history of World War II. This war was the bloodiest in human history, and the sacrifices made by our peoples in the name of independence and freedom cannot be erased. No attempt to distort the truth about the war, deny its results or denigrate the contribution of China and Belarus will be accepted by our peoples," Zhang Wenchuan emphasized.

The exhibition was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Belarus, the Minsk Bureau of Xinhua, the Jiangsu Bureau of Xinhua, and China Image Group. The co-organizer was the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War and Merlin LLC. The photo exhibition was held with the support of the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Museum. The exhibition will run until September 5. –0–

BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) — China's labor market remained generally stable in July 2025, with the urban unemployment rate in July standing at 5.2 percent, up 0.2 percentage points from June, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Friday.

According to the agency, in the first seven months of 2025, the unemployment rate in cities and urban-type settlements also averaged 5.2 percent.

"Influenced by factors such as the graduation season, the unemployment rate in urban surveys showed a seasonal increase," NBS official Fu Linghui said at a press conference.

However, he said the employment situation among key population groups remained stable overall. In July 2025, the unemployment rate among rural migrant workers was 4.9 percent, below the national average.

China's 2025 target calls for more than 12 million new jobs to be created in cities and towns to keep the unemployment rate below 5.5 percent by the end of the year. -0-
