BUDAPEST, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) — Hungarian Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto on Thursday criticized the trade deal between the European Union (EU) and the United States, saying it benefits Washington rather than the EU after details of the deal were made public.

Earlier on Thursday, the EU and the US unveiled details of a trade framework agreement, setting tariff caps but excluding key sectors such as wine and digital rules.

According to the joint statement, the US will impose a maximum comprehensive tariff of 15% on most EU exports, including cars, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors and lumber.

In turn, the EU will eliminate tariffs on all US industrial goods and expand market access for US seafood and agricultural products.

P. Szijjarto wrote on Facebook that the deal is “good for the United States and bad for Europe,” noting that the Hungarian government will continue to consult with strategic partner companies on issues of industry and job protection. –0–

A.A. Zardari noted that Pakistan-China friendship has stood the test of time and the two countries are all-weather good friends and partners. The world is facing risks and challenges, but China stands up to them with courage, opposes bullying, and firmly defends its own interests and the common interests of developing countries.

The Pakistani leader thanked China for its selfless assistance in Pakistan's socio-economic development and expressed readiness to cooperate with China in advancing cooperation projects such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Gwadar Port to bring more benefits to the peoples of both countries.

The President also expressed hope that the two countries will continue to strengthen coordination and cooperation on major international and regional issues to jointly maintain regional peace, stability, prosperity and development.

UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) — United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen on Thursday warned of a "deteriorating political climate" amid the volatile security situation in Syria.

A ceasefire established in Syria's Suwayda province on July 19 is under threat but has so far prevented a return to open conflict. However, dangerous clashes and gun battles on the outskirts of the province continue and violence could resume at any time, Pedersen told the monthly UN Security Council briefing.

“I am concerned that a month of relative calm is masking a deteriorating political climate, with escalatory and confrontational rhetoric on the rise among many,” he said. “This is partly due to the emergence of disturbing new images of abuses committed in As-Suwayda during the escalation.”

G. Pedersen stressed the importance of holding all perpetrators accountable, regardless of their affiliation.

He noted that the Syrian interim authorities had announced the creation of a fact-finding commission tasked with investigating the violations committed in As-Suwayda. It was important that the commission's findings were fully published and that all those responsible, regardless of their affiliation, were held accountable, he said.

Mr Pedersen added that a serious programme of security sector reform, disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration is needed to prevent future violence and violations.

According to the special envoy, what is needed is an inclusive political process, led and owned by the Syrians themselves, that will guarantee the rights of all, protect all, meet the legitimate aspirations of all, and allow the Syrian people to determine their future peacefully, independently and democratically. –0–

BISHKEK, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) — A thematic concert dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War was held at the T. Satylganov Kyrgyz National Philharmonic on Thursday.

The concert program included more than 10 numbers. Among them were such popular Chinese songs and melodies as “Ode to the Red Banner”, “My Homeland”, “Partisan Song”, as well as world-famous Soviet songs “Cranes”, “Katyusha” and “Victory Day”.

The Kyrgyz State Academic Symphony Orchestra named after A. Djumakhmatov was responsible for the musical performance and accompaniment of the concert. The orchestra's conductor Rakhat Osmonaliev told Xinhua that it was a great honor for him to perform at this solemn event. According to him, the concert is of great importance in conveying the friendship between Kyrgyzstan and China. "I think that this joint listening to such beautiful music will inspire the Chinese and Kyrgyz audiences."

Along with wartime songs, the artists also performed musical compositions from modern Chinese TV series such as “The Legend of the Condor Heroes” and “The Unsheathing Sword.” The concert, which lasted about an hour and a half, ended with the Chinese patriotic song “I Love You, China.” The artists’ excellent performance won thunderous applause and cheers from the audience.

"The concert was wonderful. In my opinion, the composition from the TV series "The Unsheathing Sword" is a masterpiece and left an indelible impression on me," shared Nurgul Rymbekova from the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Innovation of Kyrgyzstan, who was invited to the concert. She noted that the event was a "great discovery" of Chinese culture for her. "If there are more concerts of this kind in Kyrgyzstan, related specifically to Chinese culture and art, I will definitely come," added N. Rymbekova.

The event, which attracted more than 1,000 people, was reportedly jointly organized by the Chinese Embassy in Kyrgyzstan, the Kyrgyzstan-China Friendship Society and the Chinese Cultural Center in Bishkek. –0–

"For the Japanese, not telling the war story truthfully is also a crime," Yamaguchi University professor emeritus Atsushi Koketsu told Xinhua about the Tokyo Trial. He said the Tokyo Trial is of great significance, but because the sentence was not fully executed, there is a serious gap in historical perception in Japanese society, especially among the younger generation, which is deeply concerning to him.

As a scholar who has long been involved in historical education, Atsushi Koketsu expressed deep concern over the indifference of modern Japanese youth to aggressive war.

He noted that Japanese schools, universities and other educational institutions do not allow students to fully understand Japan's war responsibility. "Especially the younger generation, they are often unwilling to acknowledge the fact that Japan launched a war of aggression. Many of my students know little about the Nanjing Massacre and other historical facts of Japanese aggression against China."

"Many Japanese people think, 'I wasn't born during the war, so the war has nothing to do with me.' But I often tell students, even though you weren't there, you have a responsibility to tell the war's story truthfully, otherwise it's also a crime," Atsushi Koketsu emphasized.

He criticized the tendency of Japanese society to focus on its own suffering for a long time, rarely tracing the root causes of these disasters. Atsushi Koketsu believes that if the Japanese cannot seriously reflect on their responsibility for aggression, it will be impossible to achieve genuine peace.
