TEHRAN, March 17 (Xinhua) — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday called for an end to the use of US military bases in West Asia, which undermine Iran's relations with neighboring countries.

He wrote about this on the social network X, outlining Iran's position on the ongoing war with the United States and Israel.

M. Pezeshkian stated that Iran did not start this “brutal” war and that defense against invasion is the country’s inherent right.

According to him, peace and stability are impossible as long as American-Israeli aggression continues. The president added that Iran will not succumb to intimidation.

M. Pezeschkian also called on the international community to condemn the aggression and urge the parties involved to comply with international law.

He criticized wars waged on the basis of disinformation and expansionism, calling them “medieval” phenomena in the 21st century, and added that calls for an end to hostilities would be meaningless without guarantees that Iran would not be attacked again. –0–

Hohhot, March 17 (Xinhua) — The cross-border postal route from Ereenhot, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, to Moscow officially launched on Monday. A Mongolian postal vehicle loaded with 699 sacks of international mail, weighing a total of 9,068 kg, left the Ereenhot International Postal Exchange, the largest land crossing on the China-Mongolia border, and headed toward the Russian capital via Mongolia, the Inner Mongolia branch of China Post Corporation reported.

The use of the intermodal "road-rail" transport scheme makes the service available throughout Russia and allows all mail intended for land transportation in the Russian direction to be transported along the new route, with the entire transportation process taking approximately 15 days. This effectively reduces the impact of climatic factors on transportation and significantly improves the overall efficiency of mail delivery to Russia.

It is noted that the opening of the Ereenhot-Moscow route is another important breakthrough for Inner Mongolia Post in creating new cross-border delivery channels, following the recent launch of the Ereenhot-Novosibirsk postal route.

Its launch not only creates a convenient and efficient postal logistics bridge for cross-border trade between China and Russia, but also provides reliable logistics support for attracting investment into the Inner Mongolia economy and promotes the higher-quality development of the cross-border e-commerce sector, said Wang Peijun, head of the international marketing center at the Inner Mongolia branch of China Post Corporation. -0-

Beijing, March 17 (Xinhua) — From March 10 to 16, 23 students from Russia's Primorsky Krai majoring in tourism and hotel services from the Primorsky Polytechnic College (Vladivostok) and the Artem College of Service and Design (Artem) completed a week-long professional internship at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang Province, northeast China.

Partners magazine reports that, under the guidance of experienced hotel mentors, Russian students learned about the operations of key departments: the lobby, rooms, banquet hall, and breakfast department. Working side by side with their mentors in a real-life work environment, they learned the service philosophy, where "attention to detail is paramount."

Hotel General Director Ksenia Novikova noted that practical training is the best textbook. This experience gave students not only practical skills but also an international perspective and a high understanding of professional standards.

According to the hotel's HR Director, Wang Jing, these Russian students are inquisitive and hardworking. They adapted quickly and demonstrated significant progress. This international exchange has become a bridge for training specialists in cultural tourism and hotel services.

In addition, Russian teachers and students visited Harbin City University, where they interacted with Chinese students and teachers and learned about the local atmosphere of professional education. -0-

BEIJING, March 17 (Xinhua) — China hopes that both Afghanistan and Pakistan will remain calm and exercise restraint, begin direct talks as soon as possible, and reach a ceasefire as soon as possible, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Tuesday.

Both countries should resolve differences and disputes through dialogue, a Chinese diplomat said at a regular press briefing, answering questions about the recent conflicts between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Noting that Afghanistan and Pakistan are neighboring countries that cannot be separated, Lin Jian said dialogue and consultation are the only effective way to resolve their problems.

China called on Afghanistan and Pakistan to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens, projects and institutions, Lin Jian said, adding that China intends to continue to play a constructive role in easing the situation and improving relations between the two countries through its own channels. -0-

BEIJING, March 17 (Xinhua) — A total of 841,000 fires were reported in China in 2025, down 7.6 percent from 2024, the State Fire and Rescue Administration said on Tuesday.

The number of fatalities and injuries decreased by 9.5 percent and 19.6 percent, respectively, while direct material damage increased by 1.8 percent compared to 2024 and amounted to 8.53 billion yuan (about 1.24 billion US dollars), Wang Wei, an official representative of the aforementioned department, said at a press conference.

During the same period, a total of 25.93 million fire department and 4.699 million fire engine calls were recorded. "More than half of these calls were related to firefighting and rescue operations," she added.

Statistics for the past three years show that fires in residential buildings account for almost 30% of all fires annually and almost 80% of fires in buildings and structures. A significant proportion of these fires are caused by faulty electrical equipment and careless fire handling.

The agency is calling for more widespread use of early fire detection and alarm systems in homes, especially for older people living alone and children left without parental supervision. -0-
