XI'AN, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — The 2025 Eurasian Economic Forum will be held from Sept. 23 to 25 in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province. The main theme of the upcoming event is "consolidating new driving forces in Eurasia and jointly building a new architecture of sustainable development," according to a statement from the organizers.

The 2025 forum aims to promote the country's overall diplomatic configuration, showcase its achievements in Chinese modernization, and help build a new model of regional cooperation in Eurasia. By providing a high-level communication platform and hosting a series of economic, trade and cultural events, the forum aims to achieve a series of practical results and conclude a series of cooperation agreements, organizers said at a press conference in Xi'an on Monday.

As noted by the member of the organizing committee, Vice Mayor of Xi'an Niu Kai, the forum will include 13 sub-forums devoted to the topics of cooperation in production capacity, joint establishment of rules, cultural and humanitarian integration, technological innovation and coordinated management. The forum's program also includes holding more than 10 events on trade, economic and cultural exchanges, and presenting a Eurasian economic review within the framework of the Belt and Road initiative.

Representatives of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states, observer states and dialogue partners of the SCO, as well as politicians, ministerial and governor-level officials from the Belt and Road countries, Central, South and West Asian countries, will be invited to the forum, Niu Kai said. Representatives of international organizations, ambassadors of foreign countries to China, heads of transnational corporations, specialists and scientists are also expected to attend the forum.

As an important mechanism for economic cooperation within the SCO, the Eurasian Economic Forum has been held every two years since its establishment in 2005.

This year, the forum, the 11th in a row, is jointly organized by the People's Government of Shaanxi Province, the SCO Secretariat, the China Development Bank, the Export-Import Bank of China, the SCO Committee on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation, and the China Scientific Center of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences. -0-

There are still more than four months until Christmas, but Yiwu City in Zhejiang Province, known as the "world's supermarket", has opened the "Christmas season" early.

From Christmas trees to various decorations, local factories and markets are bustling with activity and showing rapid growth.

The reason for the peak in Christmas supplies to Yiwu can be attributed to the new trend in the market this year: early ordering and early delivery, which encourages businesses to do their utmost to deliver products to the global market on time.

According to Hangzhou Customs, from January to July this year, Zhejiang Province's Christmas export volume reached 9.11 billion yuan, up 23.0% over the same period last year.

COLOMBO, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has continued to grow and expand over the past 24 years, demonstrating its inclusiveness as well as its attractiveness and viability, Yasiru Ranaraja, a local international affairs expert and founding director of the Belt and Road Initiative-Sri Lanka, told Xinhua on Thursday.

According to him, the SCO, the world's largest regional organization in terms of geographic coverage and population, provides a reliable platform for promoting equal dialogue and solidarity in addressing regional issues. It also helps member states combat terrorism and stimulate economic growth, "which is crucial for strengthening regional security," the expert added.

“As we see, many countries want to join it as dialogue partners and full members, which indicates recognition of the organization by the international community,” noted Y. Ranarajah.

The SCO offers a valuable platform for cooperation among countries in the Global South, the source said. Against the backdrop of global challenges such as geopolitical conflicts and protectionism, the SCO embodies “a more equitable and inclusive vision of regional governance,” the expert noted.

Sri Lanka is a dialogue partner of the SCO. Ranarajah said the country is seeking deeper engagement with the organisation, particularly in areas such as security, counter-terrorism, supply chains and port cooperation.

Sri Lanka attaches great importance to the development of ports and hopes to join the SCO regional trade integration efforts, the expert said. The establishment of a regional platform for port cooperation will significantly reduce the country's costs of operating ports and handling cargo, while enhancing the competitiveness of regional trade, he added. –0–

SYDNEY, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Tuesday accused Iran of orchestrating anti-Semitic attacks in Australia and announced that Iranian Ambassador Ahmad Sadeghi had been ordered to leave the country.

Speaking at a press conference, the Prime Minister said the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) had gathered credible evidence that Iran had orchestrated at least two anti-Semitic attacks on Jewish communities in Sydney and Melbourne since October 2023.

"Iran tried to cover up its involvement, but ASIO believes it was behind the attacks," said Mr Albanese.

The Australian embassy in Tehran has suspended its activities and all its diplomats are safe in a third country, the prime minister said.

E. Albanese also said that the Australian government would add Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to the list of terrorist organizations.

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said it was the first time an ambassador had been expelled from the country since World War II and urged all Australians in Iran to leave the Islamic republic if it was safe for them to do so. –0–

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — U.S. private space company SpaceX canceled the 10th flight test of its powerful Starship rocket on Monday due to adverse weather conditions.

The launch was originally scheduled for Sunday from the company's Starbase in the US state of Texas, but was delayed due to problems with ground systems and rescheduled for Monday.

Monday's launch attempt was aborted 40 seconds before liftoff, with SpaceX announcing on social media that the flight had been cancelled due to weather conditions.

The team is determining the next best opportunity for flight, SpaceX said.

The 10th flight test is expected to achieve the same goals as previous missions, including the first deployment of Starship's payload and multiple experiments to return the booster to the launch pad for subsequent launch.

The Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy launch vehicle, collectively known as Starship, are a fully reusable transportation system designed to deliver crew and cargo to low Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars, and beyond. –0–

/SCO Summit in Tianjin/ Exclusive: SCO has become more influential, dynamic, open and global thanks to China's contribution – former head of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry A. Dzhekshenkulov

BISHKEK, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — China is one of the key architects of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Its contributions have made the organization more influential, dynamic, open and global, former Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Alikbek Jekshenkulov told Xinhua.

According to him, China has been consistently promoting mutually beneficial ideas of integration since the first days of the SCO's founding. The country is making efforts to align its initiatives with regional programs of other countries, and is also actively implementing projects in the areas of security, infrastructure, and education. "Thanks to China's contribution, the organization has become more influential, dynamic, open, and global in its scope," A. Dzhekshenkulov emphasized.

According to him, as a result of its more than 20-year development, the SCO has already become a large “family” that covers 26 countries in Asia, Europe and Africa. The organization’s influence is constantly growing, and its “circle of friends” is becoming wider and wider.

A. Dzhekshenkulov noted that since its foundation, the SCO has evolved from a regional security mechanism into a universal influential international organization covering politics, economics and the humanitarian sphere. The role of the organization is especially important in the Central Asian region, where it helps ensure stability, counter terrorism, develop economic interconnectedness and promote intercivilizational dialogue.

"The success of the SCO is largely due to its unique principles – the "Shanghai Spirit": mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, respect for cultural diversity and the desire for joint development. These principles are becoming especially relevant for the entire world at the current tense stage of human development," he said.

According to the politician, in the modern world, where unrest and turmoil are intertwined, and where anti-globalization and protectionism tendencies are growing, the SCO can become a factor of stability and trust.

"The SCO promotes a model of fair, inclusive globalization, where each country retains national sovereignty, cultural identity and economic independence. This is especially relevant now against the backdrop of the crisis of traditional Western models of global governance," he said, adding that the SCO is not and should not become an antagonist for anyone, and its task is to form an alternative model of global interaction. "In the conditions of a multipolar world, this is natural and necessary," the diplomat emphasized.

The SCO summit will be held in the Chinese city of Tianjin from August 31 to September 1. According to the former head of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry, in the current conditions of global instability – be it geopolitical conflicts, growing sanctions pressure, aggravation of economic contradictions or a crisis of trust in international institutions – the upcoming summit is of particular importance.

“I believe that during the summit, the leaders of the SCO countries will not only strengthen strategic cooperation, but also outline new guidelines in such key areas as ensuring regional and global security, developing common infrastructure, the digital economy, and humanitarian areas,” said A. Dzhekshenkulov. “The summit could become an important stage in consolidating the joint efforts of the SCO member states as a solid platform for an alternative, multipolar vision of the world.” –0–
