BISHKEK, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) — The Global Governance Initiative put forward by China will be attractive to many countries and will find broad support from the international community, Kyrgyz political scientist and professor of international relations at Ala-Too International University Kubanychbek Taabaldiev said in an interview with Xinhua.
At the SCO Plus meeting held in the Chinese city of Tianjin on Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping put forward a Global Governance Initiative based on five principles: ensuring sovereign equality, upholding international law, implementing multilateralism, pursuing a people-centered approach, and being action-oriented.
“China’s global governance initiative will be attractive to many countries in the world,” said K. Taabaldiev, adding that the acute problem of the lack of real democracy in international relations “like a magnet attracts the states of the Global South and developing countries to new and more attractive initiatives.” This is especially true for countries that have suffered from economic expansion.
“China’s initiative for a new world order with fair governance will certainly find support among most countries in the world,” he confirmed.
The essence of the new Initiative is to respond more effectively to the common challenges of humanity, reduce the development gap between the North and the South and protect the common interests of all countries of the world.
“China’s initiatives to reduce the gap between North and South are of current importance,” the Kyrgyz political scientist believes. In his opinion, China, as a country that has managed to lift hundreds of millions of people out of poverty, can become a driver in solving this global problem.
"One of the goals of the Belt and Road initiative is to assist countries in accelerating economic development by building the appropriate infrastructure. This task is being successfully implemented in Central Asia," said K. Taabaldiev, noting that China is seeking to use the capabilities of the SCO and other multilateral mechanisms to advance the solution of these problems.
“Such approaches indicate China’s readiness to provide every possible assistance to poor and developing countries in implementing projects that help bridge the gap between poor and rich countries, especially between the North and the South,” he stressed.
At the SCO summit in Tianjin, the Chinese side proposed to provide SCO countries with gratuitous aid and loans, and also expressed its readiness to implement “100 small but wonderful” projects to improve the living standards of the population in the organization’s member states in need.
“This is a significant and practical contribution by China to solving poverty problems at the global level,” said K. Taabaldiev.
At the recent “SCO Plus” meeting, the Chinese side pointed out the need to resist hegemony and power politics, calling on the SCO to become a pillar in promoting a multipolar world and democratizing international relations. As the Kyrgyz political scientist noted, the initiative put forward by China touched upon a pressing issue in international politics.
"The confrontation in the world is intensifying, there are attempts to restore the lost positions of Western countries, there is an erosion of values," he said, noting that the attempt at economic dominance of individual countries is intensifying. The introduction of sanctions, including economic and political ones, is already affecting the world order and causing discontent, and in some cases, opposition.
"From this point of view, China's position to resist such aspirations can become a symbolic call. Few in the world can object to this initiative, especially the SCO countries, since a multipolar world and multilateralism are becoming an attractive alternative to the previous world order," the expert concluded, adding that China is becoming a support for countries striving for a new, more just world. –0–
