Astana, March 18 /Xinhua/ — A transnational scheme to lure citizens into drug-related crimes has been uncovered in the Republic of Kazakhstan, with 40 individuals detained. This was reported Wednesday by the Kazinform news agency, citing Polisia.kz.

The special operation was reportedly conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan jointly with foreign law enforcement agencies using modern IT technologies. It was established that the network's organizers, based abroad, distributed advertisements for "high-paying jobs" via the internet, instant messaging apps, and social media.

Under the guise of legal employment, citizens were lured into drug trafficking. Coordination was carried out through call centers that recruited recruiters and managed so-called drug couriers.

During the operation, 40 Kazakh citizens were detained in 11 regions of the country. Eleven individuals directly involved in drug distribution were arrested, and nine more were charged with administrative offenses for drug use.

The financial regulator noted that a certain acceleration of inflationary processes has been observed in the economy since the beginning of 2026. Core inflation in February reached 6.3 percent year-on-year, while the overall inflation rate was 7.3 percent.
