BEIJING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) — The 2025 China-Russia Cross-Border Marathons were held in Heihe, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, on Saturday. The competition was organized by the Heilongjiang Provincial Sports Department, the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of the Amur Region of Russia, and the People's Government of Heihe.

The competition included a classic marathon, a half marathon, a 10-kilometer run across the cross-border bridge, and a mass run. The event was broadcast on provincial television and radio.

Of particular interest in the event was the 10-kilometer run across the bridge over the Heilongjiang /Amur/ border river. Participants ran across the border on the bridge and finished on Russian territory at the Kani-Kurgan road checkpoint. This is the first marathon in China with a cross-border stage, as well as the first cross-border marathon for China and Russia.

At 8 a.m., the starting gun rang out and nearly 4,000 Chinese and foreign participants rushed forward. During the race, they were able to experience the unique feeling of a cross-border marathon, as well as admire the majestic scenery on both banks of the Heilongjiang River and experience the dynamic development of a modern border city.

The sporting event took place in a cheerful, festive atmosphere. At the improvised catering area, Russian baker Natasha cut thick slices of bread and treated enthusiastic visitors. The air was filled with the aroma of freshly baked goods with creamy notes. And at one of the supply points set up along the running track, “Uncle Petya,” popular on Chinese social networks, was preparing Russian shashlik. The tantalizing smell of juicy, steaming meat made many runners stop, forgetting about the time.

Following a tense struggle, Li Xiang emerged as the winner of the men's marathon with a time of 2 hours 26 minutes 29 seconds. Among women, Ma Hongli won the championship with a time of 2 hours 49 minutes 24 seconds. The champions of the half marathon were Ma Liang (men) and Zhang Cao (women). And the participants of the mass race enjoyed the sport and the joy of self-realization while covering the distance.

The event has received positive reviews from Chinese and foreign participants. Heihe city authorities intend to build the China-Russia cross-border marathon into a vibrant brand of sports events based on the “sports, culture and tourism, economy” model, which will be popular both domestically and abroad. -0-

KUNMING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) — Common values of humanity such as peace, development, equality, justice, democracy and freedom constitute the common foundation that unites people of all countries and guides the progress of human civilization, according to an analysis report released Saturday.

The report, titled "Answers to the Questions of Our Time: The Global Significance and Practical Value of China's Intellectual Public Goods," was prepared by the Xinhua Institute, a think tank affiliated with the Xinhua News Agency.

Against the backdrop of rapid economic development and technological progress, value conflicts, ethical dilemmas and even crises of belief are intensifying, becoming pressing issues for many states. The central question of our era is how to define values that can ensure consensus, guide the progress of human civilization and answer the most important questions about the future of humanity, according to the report.

According to the report, at the general debate of the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UN) in September 2015, the Chinese leader noted that peace, development, equality, justice, democracy and freedom are the common values of all mankind and the lofty goals of the UN.

This important judgment goes beyond differences between different countries, ethnic groups, social systems and ideologies, reducing to the greatest possible common denominator the values recognized by people around the world, the report says.

This concept integrates the traditional wisdom of Chinese civilization, such as “pursuing common welfare” and “harmony in diversity.” It is based on peace, encouraging dialogue and cooperation to eliminate conflicts and build harmonious coexistence. This concept notes the role of development as a driving force, and emphasizes joint efforts to achieve social prosperity.

According to the report, in this concept, equality and justice are also considered as imperatives aimed at eliminating inequality and achieving the ideal of “great harmony”, and democracy and freedom are considered as principles that guarantee people’s participation in the life of society and their right to comprehensive development.

Common values of humanity are not focused on one culture or ideology, but instead are aimed at solving common problems of human survival and development, finding the most common points of contact in various social contexts.

They proclaim peace and development as values at the national level, equality and justice as values at the societal level, and democracy and freedom as values at the individual level, with all three levels being organically interconnected.

Common values of humanity lay the foundation for the common development of countries and peoples in different regions, systems, beliefs and cultures, establishing a basic value framework for universal interaction, the report says. -0-

KUNMING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) — China's intellectual public goods are relevant and fit for the long-term prospects, according to a report released Saturday.

The report, titled "Answers to the Questions of Our Time: The Global Significance and Practical Value of China's Intellectual Public Goods," was prepared by the Xinhua Institute, a think tank affiliated with the Xinhua News Agency.

The report points out that the global public intellectual goods offered by China have been shaped by practice and will continue to evolve as practice develops.

They actively respond to global processes, constantly focus on the long-term future of humanity, deepen and improve their theoretical structure, and maintain their viability through consistent innovation and adaptation. These public intellectual goods are characterized by a deep understanding of changes in the global landscape and demonstrate both greater adaptability and foresight, the report's authors acknowledge.

KUNMING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) — China's proposed global public intellectual goods are not only based on abstract reasoning but also a systematic exposition of the laws governing the development of human society, according to an analysis released Saturday.

The report, titled "Answers to the Questions of Our Time: The Global Significance and Practical Value of China's Intellectual Public Goods," was prepared by the Xinhua Institute, a think tank affiliated with the Xinhua News Agency.

These global public intellectual goods are based on the best traditional ideas of the country and modern theories of the social sciences. They have been formed on the basis of a systematic exposition of objective laws, not of disparate experiences, and are guided by a universal scientific orientation that transcends ideological biases, the report says.

As a country with more than 5,000 years of civilization and a great power with a turbulent modern history, China has developed global public intellectual goods that are embedded in the historical process and the evolution of the world order, rather than formed in isolation. They are a generalization and refinement of China's historical experience, as well as a profound response to global historical trends, the authors of the report note.

The document cites the Belt and Road Initiative as an example, which simultaneously embodies the legacy of China's historical experience and responds to the need for connectivity in the era of economic globalization.

Building on the legacy of the ancient Silk Road that spanned thousands of miles and endured for centuries, the Belt and Road Initiative embodies the spirit of “peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit.” Against the backdrop of profound changes in the global economic environment, it effectively meets the urgent development and modernization needs of all countries, especially those in the Global South.

China's global public intellectual goods consistently adhere to the principle of "coming from practice and returning to practice," focusing on solving the major and pressing problems facing the world today and putting forward feasible approaches that are clearly practice-oriented, the report said. -0-

China's modernization provides valuable example for other countries: report

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

KUNMING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) — China's modernization, which is based on the country's national conditions while drawing on the outstanding achievements of human civilization, serves as a valuable example for other countries, especially those in the Global South, according to an analysis released Saturday.

The report, titled "Answers to the Questions of Our Time: The Global Significance and Practical Value of China's Intellectual Public Goods," was prepared by the Xinhua Institute of the Xinhua News Agency.

According to the report, Chinese modernization has adjusted the paradigm of global modernization and created a new form of human progress. It is a significant step beyond the theories and practices of Western-style modernization and destroys the myth that “modernization is equivalent to Westernization.”

China's modernization demonstrates that countries at relatively late stages of development can achieve development driven by domestic factors. Development paths should be shaped by the country's national conditions, culture, and historical traditions, rather than simply copying the models of others, especially Western countries.

The concept of development driven by internal factors leads to the search for ways of modernization in accordance with the realities, resource potential, cultural traditions and social structure of each country, developing institutional innovations and effective policies.

China's practice shows that developing countries should not rely on a single foreign template, but instead should combine their domestic potential with the peaceful use of external resources to find their own path forward. This approach is an important example in terms of finding a development path for countries in the Global South, whose economies remain relatively underdeveloped.

China's modernization is firmly based on independence, emphasizing a high level of self-reliance and capability in the economic and scientific fields. Through independent innovation, industrial upgrading and institutional improvement, the country has succeeded in reducing excessive dependence on external resources and securing strategic initiative in national development, according to the report.

China's experience shows that developing countries do not have to follow a path of dependence to achieve economic growth, but can instead play an active role in the global economy. This independent development path serves as a theoretical guide for countries in the Global South seeking to be free from external economic constraints.

China's modernization is firmly people-centered: development is for the people, is based on the people, and benefits the people. This approach reflects China's deep understanding of modernization as not just a tool for economic growth, but also a path to achieving people's happiness and social justice, the report says.

In pursuit of high-quality development and a bigger "pie," China attaches equal importance to the fair distribution of the "pie," focusing on employment, income distribution, education, health care, housing, elderly and child care, and ensuring equal basic public services for urban and rural areas.

This approach has made it possible to reduce interregional and social inequalities, increase the population's sense of satisfaction with economic, cultural and educational life, and maintain long-term social stability and harmony, thereby giving an internal impetus to national development and social cohesion.

China's modernization is deeply rooted in the finest cultural traditions of Chinese civilization, forming a path with distinctive characteristics. Unlike some countries that abandoned their traditions during modernization, China's modernization insists on the principle of "innovation through inheritance and inheritance through innovation", integrating ideas such as benevolence, people-orientedness and harmony into modern governance, thereby creating a unique model of coordinated material and cultural-ethical progress, the report said.

This culture-based path has not only strengthened national confidence and identity, but also provided a new paradigm for modernization for the Global South. “With diverse cultural traditions, countries in the Global South can draw on their own beautiful cultures and their development to enrich modernization with unique values, avoid cultural rupture and loss of identity, and maintain cultural vitality and civilizational subjectivity in the process of modernization,” the report emphasizes. -0-

KUNMING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) — The collective rise of the Global South is one of the profound transformations in the international landscape of the 21st century, providing a historic opportunity for innovation in global public intellectual goods, according to an analytical report released Saturday.

The report, titled "Answers to the Questions of Our Time: The Global Significance and Practical Value of China's Intellectual Public Goods," was prepared by the Xinhua Institute, a think tank affiliated with the Xinhua News Agency.

Politically, countries in the Global South are promoting the democratization of international relations, advocating for sovereign equality and inclusive consultation, and calling for greater fairness and justice in international platforms and global mechanisms, according to the report.

From an economic perspective, they place development at the centre of global economic governance and promote the restoration of balance in the global structure of economic power based on openness and cooperation.

In the area of global governance, countries of the Global South focus on involving more developing countries in the process, respecting the interests and needs of all and breaking the monopoly of the big powers.

Culturally, they advocate a principle of coexistence that goes beyond cultural hegemony, encouraging exchanges and mutual learning to overcome barriers between civilizations and rejecting the notion of a “clash of civilizations.”

More importantly, as the Global South continues to accumulate practical achievements, its values and policies are gaining increasing international influence, providing the world with a growing supply of intellectual goods that are both contemporary and practical, the report says.

The report says that in building a multipolar world based on equality and order, and advancing economic globalization that is inclusive and beneficial to all, the diversity of practices, rich cultures and varied development models of the Global South will undoubtedly bring even more valuable intellectual resources to the world. -0-

KUNMING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) — The Belt and Road Initiative is a shining example of the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, according to an analysis released Saturday.

The report, titled "Answers to the Questions of Our Time: The Global Significance and Practical Value of China's Intellectual Public Goods," was prepared by the Xinhua Institute, a think tank affiliated with the Xinhua News Agency.

The report said the Belt and Road Initiative, proposed in 2013, upholds the principles of joint consultation, joint construction and shared benefits, while embracing the concepts of openness, greenness and fairness.

Over more than 10 years of development, the Belt and Road Initiative has become the world's largest platform for international cooperation, implementing a wide range of projects, including such iconic ones as the China-Europe Express Railway, the China-Laos Railway and the Greek port of Piraeus.
