JERUSALEM, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) — Yemen's Houthi rebel movement on Sunday launched six drones toward Israel, one of which hit Ramon airport in the south of the country and wounded two people, Israeli authorities said.

According to the Magen David Adom rescue service, a 63-year-old man suffered shrapnel wounds to his limbs during the incident, while a 52-year-old woman was injured in a fall. Both victims were taken to Eilat's Yoseftal Hospital.

An Israel Airports Authority spokesman said the drone landed in the arrivals hall of the relatively small Ramon Airport, located about 18 kilometers north of Eilat.

“Airport operations have been suspended, with takeoffs and landings suspended,” a spokesman said, adding that the authority was working to restore normal services as soon as possible.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that no alarm sirens were triggered when the drone struck. “The incident is currently under investigation,” the IDF said in a statement.

According to the military, three more drones were intercepted before entering Israeli territory, while two others crashed before reaching Israel. –0–

KUNMING, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) — More than 120 guests from 24 countries in the Global South gathered in Chengjiang City, southwest China's Yunnan Province, on Sunday to discuss the protection and development of World Heritage.

They attended a thematic sub-forum of the 2025 Global South High-Level Media and Think Tank Forum, which is jointly hosted by Xinhua News Agency, the CPC Committee and the Yunnan Provincial People's Government.

As Zeng Yan, a member of the Bureau and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee, noted, the province has six world heritage sites, which is the second highest in China. Moreover, the Jingmaishan Ancient Tea Forest Cultural Landscape in Pu'er is the world's first cultural heritage site dedicated to tea.

According to Zeng Yan, preserving these world heritage sites requires joint efforts. The top priority should be their protection, while at the same time, research, practical application, exchanges and cooperation should be intensified to bring these cultural and natural treasures back to life as bridges for mutual learning among civilizations.

Xinhua Deputy Director-General Xi Yanchun stressed the importance of joint efforts, calling the sustainable development of World Heritage “a systemic project that requires cooperation from all parties, including active support from the media.”

She promised that Xinhua will continue to strengthen cooperation with governments, media and think tanks in the Global South to help strengthen consensus and raise public awareness on the protection and transmission of world heritage.

As Robinder Nath Sachdev, president of the Indian think tank Imagindia Institute, pointed out, although many World Heritage sites in the Global South are recognized globally, their perspectives remain underrepresented in global narratives. He therefore called for a stronger voice for the Global South.

In addition to protection, the sub-forum participants also stressed the need to keep the heritage viable and relevant to modern life, in particular by engaging the younger generation through social media, film, television and games. –0–

The 16th typhoon of the year is expected to make landfall in the coastal area between the cities of Jiangmen and Maoming, bringing heavy rains to the southern Pearl River Delta and western Guangdong until Sept. 9, the local meteorological service said.

The cities of Jiangmen, Maoming and Zhuhai have raised their typhoon alert levels and closed schools and preschools. The railway department announced that all trains on the Shenzhen-Zhanjiang and Guangzhou-Maoming routes will be suspended on September 8 and gradually resumed from September 9.

In addition, due to the suspension of ferry services between Guangdong and Hainan provinces, train services across the Qiongzhou Strait to Hainan Island and back were cancelled or diverted.

A total of 1,785 workers had been evacuated from 26 offshore wind power platforms by 9 a.m. Sunday, the city of Yangjiang said. In addition, 2,026 workers from fish farms and 342 workers from marine aquaculture farms had been evacuated. Twelve coastal tourist areas were closed to visitors.

China's National Meteorological Center on Sunday extended a yellow alert, the third-most severe in China's four-tiered system of severe weather warnings, as Typhoon Tapa approached.
