WASHINGTON, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said Sunday the White House is ready to move to a second round of sanctions against Russia amid deadlocked peace talks to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.

When asked by a journalist whether he was ready to move to “the second stage of introducing sanctions against Russia” as he was leaving the White House and heading to New York, D. Trump replied: “Yes, I am.” However, the president did not go into details.

D. Trump is becoming increasingly pessimistic about a quick resolution of the conflict or a personal meeting between the presidents of Russia and Ukraine, NBC News reported last week, citing two high-ranking officials of the American administration.

According to American media, a key government building in Kyiv was attacked using a drone on Sunday night.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said the main government building in Kyiv had been damaged for the first time since the conflict began. –0–
