BEIJING, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — The total number of freight trains sent from Changsha, capital of central China's Hunan Province, on China-Europe international freight train routes has exceeded 6,000 as of Sept. 10, 2025, since the service was launched there in October 2014, according to data from the General Administration of Customs.

According to information posted on the official website of the State Customs Service, during the specified period, 6,247 China-Europe freight trains were sent from Changsha, which transported more than 520 thousand standard containers /TEU/ with goods worth a total of about 118.21 billion yuan /about 16.61 billion US dollars/.

According to data from Changsha Customs, from January to August this year, Changsha handled 643 China-Europe round-trip freight trains, carrying 52,696 standard containers with goods worth 10.47 billion yuan. Specifically, in August, these three indicators, namely the number of trips, the number of TEUs and the value of goods transported, increased by 241.8 percent, 241.8 percent and 46.8 percent year-on-year, respectively.

At present, there are 12 regular routes in Changsha, covering 100 regions and 30 countries on the Eurasian continent. The range of goods transported is becoming wider and wider, from basic daily necessities and hardware to the construction equipment, automobiles and their spare parts that are in demand today. China-Europe train transportation services have created more convenient conditions and more opportunities for enterprises in Hunan and its neighboring regions to enter overseas markets, and provided important support for the construction of the Belt and Road and the stabilization of the international supply chain.

In order to ensure the convenient and efficient operation of China-Europe freight trains, Changsha Customs has taken a series of measures to continuously optimize service processes and improve customs clearance efficiency. DOHA, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — Participants in the extraordinary summit of the Arab League (LAS) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Doha on Monday strongly condemned Israel's recent attack on Qatar and expressed full solidarity with the emirate.

The Arab-Islamic summit was chaired by Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The final declaration called the Israeli strike on a residential area in Doha a “blatant act of aggression” that violated international law and posed a serious threat to regional and global peace.

Arab and Islamic leaders reaffirmed their full support for Qatar's sovereignty, security and stability and supported any measures the emirate might take in response to the attack. They stressed that the attack on a neutral mediator undermines ongoing ceasefire talks in Gaza and broader peace efforts.

In the final declaration, summit participants condemned “Israel’s crimes of genocide, ethnic cleansing, famine and siege, as well as settlement activity and expansionist policies,” warning that they jeopardize prospects for peace.

Summit participants called for urgent international action to hold Israel accountable, including imposing sanctions, halting arms sales and reviewing diplomatic and economic ties with Israel.

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) — The United Nations welcomes high-level dialogues between China and the United States, UN Secretary-General's spokesman Stephane Dujarric said on Monday.

“We welcome and support high-level dialogues between the world’s two largest economies, as their economic relations have an impact on the global economy,” Dujarric said at a daily briefing, responding to a question about the two-day trade and economic talks between China and the United States that took place on Sunday and Monday in Madrid, Spain.

VIENNA, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — The 69th session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) opened in Vienna on Monday, focusing on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and technology and the urgent need to safeguard the global nuclear non-proliferation regime.

In a message delivered by UN Vienna Director-General Ghada Waly, the head of the world organization, António Guterres, noted that the IAEA plays a vital role in ensuring that nuclear science and technology are used exclusively for peaceful purposes.

“Together, we can ensure that these instruments advance development and protect humanity,” the message said, calling for continued efforts to address the threat of nuclear proliferation.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said the conference was being held at a critical time, citing terrorism, armed conflict and the erosion of the nuclear non-proliferation regime amid growing global inequality. He said he had informed the UN Security Council that the global nuclear non-proliferation regime needed to be defended.

The conference will run until September 19. It brought together more than 2,500 participants, including representatives of IAEA Member States, international and non-governmental organizations.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that the U.S. military carried out a second strike in two weeks in international waters on a ship suspected of carrying drugs from Venezuela, killing three people.

“This morning, at my direction, the United States military launched a second precision strike against identified, extremely violent drug cartels and narco-terrorists in the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility,” Trump wrote on social media.

“These extremely violent drug cartels pose a threat to the national security, foreign policy and vital interests of the United States,” he added.

Trump's post also included a video marked "unclassified" that showed the vessel catching fire in unspecified waters.

On September 2, Trump ordered a strike in international waters on a ship suspected of carrying drugs from Venezuela. Eleven people on board, whom Trump called “identified narco-terrorists” from the Tre de Aragua (TdA) criminal group, were killed.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro later denounced the US first strike as “illegal.” He accused Washington of fabricating drug trafficking charges to justify regime change efforts, insisting that Venezuela does not grow coca or produce cocaine.

HELSINKI, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — The European Union (EU) will step up financial and operational support for Finland's eastern border security, including plans to build a "drone wall" along the border, European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner said Monday during a visit to Finland.

He noted that the European Commission (EC) has already provided Finland with 80 million euros (94.09 million US dollars) in targeted funding over the past two years. In addition, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) is launching a 150 million euro equipment programme, 90 percent financed by the EU, mainly for drones.

According to a press release from the Finnish government, the EC has proposed to allocate €1.6 billion to the Finnish home affairs sector in the EU's next multiannual financial framework starting in 2028. The amount allocated is almost €1 billion more than in the current period. Among the immediate priorities is the expansion of drone capabilities and counter-UAV capabilities for border control.

HOHHOT, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — China began a trial visa-free regime for Russian citizens holding foreign passports on Sept. 15. On the same day, the Manzhouli checkpoint in northern China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, an important land port on the Chinese-Russian border, saw its first peak in entries into China.

At 9 a.m., a Russian tourist named Victoria, having passed through passport control, became the first Russian citizen to arrive in China without a visa through the Manzhouli checkpoint. “We are the first passengers from Russia to China without a visa,” she said, talking about her plans to go with friends to admire the Hulunbuir steppe.

Crossing the border has become much more convenient, comfortable and faster, noted another Russian traveler.

As of 16:00 on the same day, 356 Russian tourists who arrived in China without a visa had been inspected and cleared at the Manzhouli checkpoint.

As reported by the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Transport Development Center, in order to strengthen trade, economic and human exchanges with neighboring regions of Russia, Inner Mongolia recently opened a new regular route for automobile passenger transportation Manzhouli-ABAO /Agin-Buryat Autonomous Region/.

The total length of this route is approximately 350 km. The departure time for cars on the Chinese side is 7:50 a.m. from Monday to Friday, and for the Russian side, 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday to Sunday. This route is the sixth Chinese-Russian regular automobile passenger transportation line passing through the Manzhouli automobile border crossing, after the Manzhouli-Zabaikalsk, Manzhouli-Krasnokamensk, Manzhouli-Borzya, Manzhouli-Chita and Hailar-Chita routes.

According to experts, the opening of the Manzhouli-ABAO route will provide Chinese and foreign tourists with a new option for using cross-border road transport.
