HANGZHOU, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — More than 4,000 vessels set out for the East China Sea on Tuesday after a four-month summer fishing ban ended, maritime affairs departments in eastern China's provinces said.

Maritime affairs departments in Zhejiang, Fujian and Jiangsu provinces and Shanghai have launched operations to ensure marine fisheries safety.

As part of these efforts, 81 patrol boats, 38 aircraft and more than 700 law enforcement personnel have been deployed to patrol key shipping routes and areas where commercial and fishing vessels converge.

Marine and fisheries authorities have also joined forces to monitor waters where incidents frequently occur around the clock.

The summer fishing ban aims to restore fish stocks and ensure sustainable development. On August 5, the ban in the East China Sea was partially lifted for certain types of licensed fishing vessels.

Once the fishery fully resumes, fishing vessels are expected to mainly catch sea creatures such as scimitar fish, small yellow croaker and squid. -0-

BEIJING, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — A new international regular passenger transportation route by road has recently opened in North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, linking the city of Manzhouli with Russia's Aginskoye, the Neimenggu Ribao newspaper reported, citing information from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region's Transportation Development Center.

The new route, which is about 350 km long, passes through the Manzhouli checkpoint and the Zabaikalsk border crossing in Russia. Buses depart from Manzhouli at 7:50 a.m. Monday through Friday, and from Aginskoye at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. The purpose of opening this route is to strengthen trade and economic ties and people-to-people exchanges between Inner Mongolia and neighboring areas of Russia.

The Manzhouli-Aginskoye route is the sixth international regular passenger automobile transportation line between China and Russia, passing through the Manzhouli road checkpoint. Previously, the Manzhouli-Zabaikalsk, Manzhouli-Krasnokamensk, Manzhouli-Borzya, Manzhouli-Chita and Hailar-Chita routes were opened.

The opening of the Manzhouli-Aginskoye road transportation route has provided a new stable and convenient opportunity for Chinese and Russian passengers traveling across the border. It also promotes the development of trade, economic and tourism ties between the adjacent areas of China and Russia, and provides an effective transportation guarantee for deepening bilateral economic cooperation in the future. -0-

WASHINGTON, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — A U.S. federal appeals court on Monday rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's request for early removal of Federal Reserve Board member Lisa Cook, local media reported on Monday.

On Monday, a panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled 2-1 that at this stage of the case, the appeals court “does not need to” decide whether the charges against Cook meet the “good cause” test for removing a Federal Reserve board member.

That means the Trump administration has just a few hours to take the case to the Supreme Court before the Fed's key rate-setting meeting begins Tuesday morning. Without a Supreme Court ruling, Cook will be able to attend and vote at the Federal Open Market Committee meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On September 9, a federal judge blocked Trump's decision to remove Cook and ordered her to be reinstated immediately.

Also on Monday, the U.S. Senate voted 48-47 to confirm Stephen Miran, one of Trump's top economic advisers, as a member of the Federal Reserve Board. Miran will replace Adriana Kugler, who resigned from the board in early August. Miran is expected to serve through the end of Kugler's term, which expires in January.

Miran is reportedly planning to retain his post as chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers while taking unpaid leave. –0–

Tashkent, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — A large gas field has been discovered in Uzbekistan, local media reported on Tuesday, citing the press service of the Uzbek president.

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reportedly made the statement on Monday.

"Previously, exploration work in the oil and gas sector was carried out only at a depth of 2.5-3 thousand meters. This year, for the first time in the history of our mining industry, 6.5 thousand meters were drilled in Ustyurt, and a very large gas field was discovered," the head of state said.

“In the era of the ‘fourth industrial revolution’, demand for technological minerals is growing worldwide. Our region is estimated to hold 10-15 percent of the world’s reserves of tungsten, molybdenum, zinc and titanium. To transform these vast resources into high-value-added products, science, knowledge and innovation are essential,” the statement said. –0–

In recent years, Longchuan County, Yunnan Province, based on the sustainable development of mulberry cultivation and silkworm breeding, has been actively exploring deep processing such as mulberry leaf tea, mulberry wine and silk blanket production, thus promoting the continuous expansion of the sericulture industrial chain.

Thanks to the “cooperative enterprise market” interaction mechanism, the “last kilometer” of the connection between production and sales was overcome, and the transition from “sales of raw materials” to “sales of products” and “sales of brands” was made, which significantly increased the added value of the industry.

According to reports, in 2025 alone, cocoon production in Mengyue Township, Longchuan County, reached 220 tons, and silkworm production helped farmers increase their income by more than 11 million yuan.

Gaza/Jerusalem, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out intensive bombardment of Gaza City early Tuesday morning, multiple media outlets reported.

The American publication Axios, citing Israeli officials, reported that the Israeli army launched a ground offensive on Gaza City on Monday to establish control over it. The Israeli newspaper The Jerusalem Post confirmed that the IDF incursion began late Monday evening.

The IDF has gradually increased its airstrikes on the city and its surrounding areas in recent days, but has not sent ground troops into the densely populated northern city, the Times of Israel reported.

Local sources and eyewitnesses in Gaza have denied reports of Israeli tanks invading. According to locals, there have been no signs of Israeli tanks entering or moving deeper into the city. However, they have confirmed intense airstrikes and drone bombing in most areas of the city.

Palestinian news agency WAFA reported early Tuesday that the IDF had stepped up its attacks on Gaza City since Monday evening. Citing local sources, WAFA said Israeli warplanes were carrying out continuous raids on the city, with little pause. –0–

Chinese Foreign Minister Calls for Sustainable Development of Sino-Polish Relations

WARSAW, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — Next year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Poland comprehensive strategic partnership. On this occasion, the two sides should build on historical experience to develop friendship, uphold mutual respect, consider each other's core interests, and make joint efforts to ensure the steady and smooth development of bilateral ties, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said here on Monday when meeting with Polish Vice Premier and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski.

Wang Yi noted that China and Poland are self-reliant and self-sufficient countries, committed to independence, and have paved the way for development suited to their national conditions after overcoming many difficulties. According to him, Poland was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with China and one of the first countries to sign cooperation documents under the Belt and Road Initiative with China.

China attaches great importance to Poland's role in Europe and consistently regards China-Poland relations as an important part of China-EU ties, Wang said, noting that since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have formed friendly relations based on mutual respect, equality, win-win cooperation and mutual learning, which is particularly valuable in today's turbulent international environment.

Noting that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, Wang Yi said that the Chinese and Polish peoples alike shed blood and made great sacrifices in resisting aggression.

According to him, China was the first to resist Japanese militaristic aggression, fought the longest and suffered the heaviest national losses, thereby making a huge historical contribution to the victory on the main eastern front of World War II and to the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War.

He called on both countries to learn from history, look to the future, make further contributions to world peace and development, and promote a more equitable system of global governance.

Wang Yi said Poland is the final stop of his European tour, adding that over the past few days he has held extensive meetings with European friends and gained a deep understanding of the challenges facing the continent.

He cited arbitrary tariffs that violate international trade rules and harm the legitimate interests of all countries, and called on China and Europe to unite to oppose such measures. In the face of unilateral bullying, compromise is not a solution, and complicity will ultimately harm one's own interests, he stressed.

Wang Yi added that the more complex and turbulent the international situation becomes, the more China, Poland and Europe should adhere to the original aspirations they had when establishing diplomatic relations, adhere to their partnership position, strengthen solidarity and coordination, protect their legitimate rights and interests, and uphold international justice.

R. Sikorski, in turn, stated that Poland attaches great importance to relations with China, highly values China’s achievements in the field of development and welcomes its further growth.

He noted that Poland firmly adheres to the one-China policy and is willing to give full play to the role of the Polish-Chinese Intergovernmental Cooperation Commission, intensify exchanges at all levels and expand cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and people-to-people contacts, especially on major projects such as new energy vehicles, so as to bring more benefits to the peoples of both countries.

R. Sikorski emphasized that tariff wars ignore the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO), undermine the sustainability of production and distribution chains and do not meet the interests of either party.

Noting that the existing global governance system is no longer in line with the changes in the balance of power in international relations, he said that Poland values the Global Governance Initiative proposed by China and is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China to advance the reform and improvement of the global governance system.

The parties also exchanged views on the Ukrainian crisis. R. Sikorski informed Wang Yi of Poland's position on the current situation, and Wang Yi spoke in detail about China's principled position on promoting peace talks and supporting all efforts aimed at achieving peace.

China is willing to maintain close communication with Poland and all parties concerned to promote the conclusion of a comprehensive, long-term and binding peace agreement, the building of a balanced, effective and sustainable European security architecture, and the achievement of lasting peace and stability in Europe, Wang Yi stressed.

China hopes that Poland, as an important country in Europe, will proceed from its fundamental and long-term interests and the interests of Europe and play a constructive role in promoting a political settlement of the crisis, he added.

Following the talks, the parties published joint documents of the 4th meeting of the Chinese-Polish Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation. –0–

CHANGCHUN, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — At 9:00 a.m. Monday at the arrival hall of Hunchun Port, many Russian tourists filled out entry cards for foreigners, held their passports in hand, and lined up to go through security checks. After that, the Russian guests were able to enter China under the visa-free regime. The whole process went smoothly and orderly.

China has introduced a trial visa-free regime for Russian citizens holding regular foreign passports from September 15, 2025 to September 14, 2026.

Russian citizens holding valid regular passports can visit China under a visa-free regime for purposes such as doing business, making tourist trips, visiting relatives and friends, exchanging visits, and for transit. The period of their stay in China should not exceed 30 days, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Hunchun City in Jilin Province /Northeast China/, located at the junction of the state borders of China, Russia and the DPRK, is not far from the Russian Far East. Thanks to convenient transportation links, interest in cross-border tourism continues to grow.

Hunchun is the only city in Jilin Province that has a checkpoint on the border with Russia. According to the Hunchun border service, in the first half of this year, the total number of passengers entering and leaving China through the Hunchun checkpoint exceeded 260,000 people-times.

In connection with the introduction of a visa-free regime for Russian citizens, the border service of Hunchun City has improved its service scheme, deployed police forces in an orderly manner, and equipped special passages on the border service territory. At the same time, the local police station has selected employees who are fluent in Russian to assist Russian guests in smoothly completing customs clearance, said Zheng Mingya, deputy commander of the first duty squad of the border service.

A Russian tourist named Sergey became a beneficiary of the visa-free regime on the first day of its implementation, he was very pleased with the convenient and unhindered entry into the country. In his opinion, the introduction of the new policy is extremely convenient for Russian tourists. The new visa-free regime will play a major role in the development of tourism, business exchanges and trade cooperation, will strengthen subsequent exchanges and cooperation with Chinese partners, and at the same time will provide Russian tourists with more time to get to know China.

“We will release timely updates on relevant policies, customs clearance procedures, special notices during inspection, etc. through our official WeChat account to help passengers prepare the necessary documents,” said Li Gang, deputy director of the Hunchun Port Authority Service Center. -0-

GUANGZHOU, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge has handled more than 90 million passenger trips since its opening in October 2018, according to data released by the bridge's border inspection office on Tuesday.

As of Monday, the total number of passengers entering and exiting the Zhuhai Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge had exceeded 90 million person-times, and the total number of vehicles crossing the port had exceeded 18.68 million unit-times.

According to statistics, the bridge has seen a steady increase in passenger traffic in recent years. In 2024, the total passenger traffic on the bridge reached 27 million person-times, and since the beginning of 2025, this figure has already grown by 19 percent year-on-year and exceeded 21.2 million person-times, and is projected to cross the 30 million person-times mark for the first time at the end of 2025.

The expansion of individual travel from the Chinese mainland to the Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR has significantly increased the tourist flow across the bridge. Since the beginning of 2025, more than 9.01 million tourists from the mainland have used the bridge for travel.

The bridge has significantly reduced the travel time between Hong Kong SAR and Zhuhai from three hours to only 30 minutes, making it increasingly popular among Hong Kong and Macao SAR residents for tourism, business, study and family trips. The number of passenger trips across the bridge by Hong Kong and Macao SAR residents increased from 4.5 million person-times in 2019 to 16.2 million person-times in 2024, and has already exceeded 12.7 million person-times since the beginning of 2025. This figure is expected to exceed 18 million person-times by the end of 2025.
