BEIJING, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) — A forum to explore development approaches to globalizing cinematography under the Belt and Road Initiative was held in Fuzhou, east China's Fujian Province, on Tuesday. Representatives from the film and television industries from China and abroad discussed new opportunities for integration and development of the film industry, as well as new cooperation models for film and television co-production.

Films are a natural link between different cultures, noted Fu Ruoqing, Chairman of the Board of China Film Group Corporation (CFGC). He explained that co-production projects are not only a capital investment but also a process of cultural collaboration that helps overcome barriers, strengthen mutual understanding and trust, and create a win-win situation in the marketplace.

According to Chinese director Lai Mukuan, the dramatization of foreign film and television works represents a search for uniqueness in general. It is necessary to start from and focus on cultural commonalities in order to rapidly close the gap between film and television production and local audiences. Furthermore, it is also necessary to localize foreign cultural scenes, making characters and plots more realistic to convey emotions and values across different civilizations.

As China's film industry rapidly develops, industrial films, animations, and other genres are increasingly being released overseas, demonstrating the cultural confidence of Chinese cinema. "We look forward to all parties working together in the future to jointly promote the development of the film industry," Lai Mukuan added.

This forum provided new ideas for the globalization of the film industry within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and actively promoted the innovation and exploration of models for jointly produced films between China and other countries, so that they could become a bridge connecting different countries and cultures.

Beijing, September 24 (Xinhua) — China expects a bumper grain harvest this year, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced on Tuesday.

Nearly 20 percent of the autumn grain harvest has now been collected nationwide. A stable spring grain harvest and an increase in the early rice yield have laid a solid foundation for the annual grain harvest, despite the droughts and floods that occurred earlier this year, the ministry reported.

According to the ministry, the summer harvest amounted to 149.74 million tons, and the early rice harvest amounted to 28.52 million tons, which is 340 thousand tons more year-on-year.

Summer harvests form the basis of China's annual grain production, and planting areas have been expanded, with yields exceeding average levels.

Technological advances were a key factor in the increase in grain yields, contributing 63.2 percent to the total. New varieties of corn, soybeans, and rice developed by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences contributed significantly to the increase in grain yields.

Modern agricultural machinery, such as hybrid tractors and gardening robots, is also used to increase efficiency.

Higher-quality and more efficient agricultural processing has also led to a significant increase in farmers' incomes. In 2024, per capita disposable income in rural areas rose to 23,119 yuan (approximately $3,254), and more than 100,000 large agricultural processing enterprises operated nationwide, each with an annual turnover of at least 20 million yuan in their core business.

China has taken measures to boost agricultural consumption, with leading e-commerce companies launching promotions and financial institutions offering incentives. In July, the central government released a plan to further boost agricultural consumption, aiming to optimize supply, improve distribution, and stimulate market demand.

BEIJING, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) — A joint expedition involving scientists from China and five Central Asian countries was held in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) from Sept. 12 to 20 as part of an archaeological project in the Fergana region.

The event was organized by the People's Government of Hami City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and Northwest University (NWU), which is located in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, Northwest China.

The expedition was aimed at showcasing China's achievements in archaeology and disseminating its experience in preserving cultural heritage sites, according to the Zhongxinshe news agency.

As part of the expedition, more than 50 Chinese and foreign scientists visited the cities of Urumqi, Hami, and the Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, where they became familiar with local archaeological sites, including the Jiaohe, Gaochang, and Beiting settlements.

At the NWU Ancient Nomadic Culture Research and Educational Base along the Great Silk Road, located in the Balikun Kazakh Autonomous County /Barkel Kazakh Autonomous County/ Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the expedition members were shown important archaeological discoveries made by Chinese researchers in the Eastern Tianshan region.

During the expedition, scientists confirmed the need for multilateral archaeological research, including a joint archaeological project in the Fergana region involving China, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. The archaeologists are focusing on issues related to cooperation in joint excavations, the protection of cultural monuments, and the training of specialists.

The archaeological expedition to the XUAR is the third as part of the Fergana project. The first took place in 2019 in the Osh region of Kyrgyzstan, and the second in 2023 in the Fergana region of Uzbekistan.
