NANJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) — The Wuxi Symphony Orchestra in east China's Jiangsu Province is departing for Russia, where it will launch a musical dialogue that will resonate across the Eurasian continent.
As an important project within the framework of the China-Russia Years of Culture and at the invitation of the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Russian National Orchestra, the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra will perform joint concerts with the Russian National Orchestra in Novosibirsk, Moscow, and St. Petersburg from late September to early October.
This tour is particularly significant, as it will be the first overseas tour by the entire Wuxi Symphony Orchestra since its founding. Under the direction of Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Lin Daye, the Chinese musicians will present a musical feast to Russian audiences that blends tradition and modernity.
The tour program included original works by the orchestra's artistic director, composer Li Shaosheng – "Wuxi Overture" and the second part of the symphonic suite "Flying to Heaven" – "Questioning the Sky", as well as classical works such as "Symphony No. 1 in C minor" by Johannes Brahms.
It is worth noting that “Wuxi Overture” and “Questioning Heaven” will be performed abroad for the first time.
Speaking about these two works, Li Shaosheng is full of anticipation: “They are musical ambassadors of Chinese culture. ‘Wuxi Overture’ is a testament to the growth of the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra, embodying a profound love for the city’s historical changes and dynamic development. ‘Flying to the Sky’ is a new work completed this year. In the second part, ‘Questioning the Sky,’ we collaborate with Chinese suona (traditional Chinese musical instrument) player Zhang Qianyuan to combine the ancient Chinese instrument with international artistic expression and confidently tell Chinese stories to the world.”
One of the highlights of this tour will be another joint performance by musicians from the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra and the Russian National Orchestra.
