BEIJING, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) — About 800 athletes from Central Asian countries and China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) gathered in Urumqi, capital of the region, to participate in the second Guest Indoor Athletics Competition, which kicked off on Wednesday and will last two days.

According to the news platform chinanews.com.cn, the competition will be held separately for men and women in three age categories: adults, youth, and adolescents. Participants will compete in approximately 70 events, including sprinting, middle- and long-distance running, hurdles, long jump, triple jump, and shot put.

URUMQI, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) — The installed capacity of new energy storage facilities in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region will reach 20.15 million kW by the end of 2025, according to the Xinjiang branch of China National Grid Corporation (CNGC).

This breakthrough was achieved thanks to Xinjiang's efforts to create a national strategic energy resource base. By the end of 2025, the installed capacity of power plants in the region using new energy sources will reach 161 million kW.

New energy storage systems are crucial to addressing the intermittency and instability of renewable energy sources. The new energy storage system incorporates multiple technologies, including lithium iron phosphate, all-vanadium flow batteries, and flywheel energy storage.

BEIJING, January 8 (Xinhua) — The market capitalization of high-tech companies listed on the A-share exchange, or yuan-denominated stock market, in mainland China grew significantly in 2025, driving the expansion of the overall market, according to a report from the China Association of Public Companies.

According to the report, the overall market capitalization of listed high-tech companies in the manufacturing, scientific research, and technical services sectors increased by 33.3 percent and 32.1 percent, respectively, last year compared to the beginning of 2025. As a result, the share of these two sectors in the total market capitalization of the A-share market also increased by 4.2 percentage points and 0.1 percentage points, respectively.

By the end of 2025, the total market capitalization of all 5,469 companies on the A-share market reached 123 trillion yuan (US$17.52 trillion). According to the report, 116 new companies went public in 2025 alone.

Kyiv, January 7 (Xinhua) — Ukraine's international gold and foreign exchange reserves grew by 30.8 percent in 2025, reaching $57.3 billion, the highest level since the country's independence. The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU, or Central Bank) reported this on its website on Wednesday.

The regulator's press service noted that the growth of gold and foreign exchange reserves was made possible by record financial support from Kyiv's international partners, totaling $52.4 billion.

The stable operation of the country's domestic debt market and the NBU's policy—a set of interest rate and exchange rate policy instruments and capital control measures—also contributed to the increase in gold and foreign exchange reserves.
