Washington, January 9 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said he may allow the latest nuclear arms control treaty with Russia to expire and replace it with a broader agreement with more parties, The New York Times reported on Thursday.

The New START Treaty, which entered into force in 2011, limits the number of deployed strategic nuclear warheads on each side to 1,550 and sets a limit on deployed delivery systems, including missiles, bombers, and submarines, at 700. The agreement expires on February 5.

Addis Ababa, January 9 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos here on Thursday. The two sides pledged to jointly advance the implementation of the outcomes of the Beijing summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FCAC).

Beijing, January 9 (Xinhua) — On Tuesday, the first freight train since early 2026 launched as part of the China-Europe international rail freight service from Fuqing, a city under the administrative jurisdiction of Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province, eastern China. The trains, carrying 100 standard containers (TEU) of goods manufactured in Fujian Province, will arrive in Moscow, the capital of the Russian Federation.
