SEOUL, January 14 (Xinhua) — The Republic of Korea (ROK) is considering resuming the suspended military agreement of September 19, 2018, with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Wi Sung-rak, Director of the National Security Directorate of the Presidential Administration, announced on Wednesday.

Almaty, January 14 (Xinhua) — Kazakh Foreign Ministry Spokesman Yerlan Zhetybayev on Wednesday expressed serious concern over the January 13 drone attacks on three oil tankers en route to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium's marine terminal in the Black Sea, the Kazinform news agency reported on Wednesday.

Moscow, January 14 /Xinhua/ — Five Chinese automobile brands took the top five spots in consumer ratings of new cars in Russia, the analytical agency Avtostat reported on Wednesday.

The online survey involved Russians who own cars from 2020-2025, representing 14 of the country's best-selling brands. The total sample size was approximately 2,000 respondents (at least 100 completed surveys per brand).

Li Auto topped the consumer satisfaction ratings with a score of 90.57 out of 100. Changan (86.34 points) and Voyah (85.05 points) also made it into the top three, while Geely (84.47 points) and Chery (83.01 points) came in fourth and fifth, respectively.

BANGKOK, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) — The death toll from a construction crane collapse that derailed a passenger train in northeastern Thailand's Nakhon Ratchasima province has risen to 31, while the number of injured has reached 67, authorities said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when a construction crane being used to build a railway bridge fell onto a train travelling from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani.

Speaking at a press briefing, Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Governor Chaiwat Chungkosum stated that it will take the State Railways of Thailand about a week to clear the wreckage and restore normal service. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.

QINGDAO, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) — The China-SCO Regional Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone (hereinafter referred to as the "China-SCO Demonstration Zone"), located in the coastal city of Qingdao in east China's Shandong Province, retained its position as the country's leader in terms of TIR transport shipments in 2025.

According to data released by the zone's management on Wednesday, 435 TIR-marked trucks departed from here in 2025 (a 53.7 percent increase year-on-year), transporting 7,657.7 tons of goods (a 76.3 percent increase) or 280 million yuan (approximately $40 million, a 43.3 percent increase) in value. These figures placed the zone first among all regions in the country providing TIR transport services.

TIR is an international road transport system. Under this system, cargo is sealed at the starting point of the route and inspected only upon arrival at the destination. At intermediate border crossings, border crossing officers merely verify the TIR carnet data and the customs stamp for the vehicle. This reduces transit time and mitigates potential risks associated with administrative customs procedures and cargo damage. China joined the TIR Convention in July 2016.

The China-SCO Demonstration Zone opened its first international route under the TIR system in September 2023, and over the next two years, the number of routes has grown to four, including China-Russia, China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan, China-Kazakhstan, and China-Belarus. A total of 727 trucks carrying 12,000 tons of cargo valued at 480 million yuan have been shipped along these routes.

Currently, there are 31 companies in the zone certified for TIR transport services, with fleets totaling 552 trucks. The range of goods they transport exceeds 40 items, including food products and electronic devices.

Yerevan, January 14 (Xinhua) — Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on Wednesday night. Almaty, January 14 /Xinhua/ — Kazakhstan's national sea carrier Kazmortransflot has increased container shipping on the Caspian Sea by more than 15 percent in 2025, the press service of the national oil and gas company KazMunayGas (KMG) reported on Wednesday.

In 2025, Kazmortransflot, a subsidiary of KazMunaiGas, transported 59.4 thousand twenty-foot equivalent containers (TEU) via the Aktau-Baku-Aktau feeder line.
