Paris, January 23 (Xinhua) — French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu's government on Friday avoided a no-confidence vote over the state budget. Members of the National Assembly (lower house of parliament) rejected two proposals on the matter.

According to the National Assembly, the left-wing proposal received 269 votes, 19 votes short of the 288 required for adoption. A second proposal, submitted by the right, was also rejected with 142 votes, significantly below the threshold required to force the government to resign.

On January 19, S. Lecornu announced that he would invoke Article 49.3 of the Constitution, which allows legislation to be passed without a parliamentary vote, to overcome the impasse over the approval of the 2026 state budget. –0–

URUMQI, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) — Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region's trade with five Central Asian countries reached 276.69 billion yuan (about 39.5 billion U.S. dollars) in 2025, remaining above 270 billion yuan for the third consecutive year, Urumqi Customs said Friday.

According to data, Xinjiang's total foreign trade volume grew by 19.9 percent year-on-year to 520.37 billion yuan last year, exceeding 500 billion yuan for the first time.

A series of measures aimed at expanding Xinjiang's foreign trade contributed to sustainable growth. In 2025, Xinjiang's cross-border e-commerce exports grew by 232.8 percent, while cross-border imports grew by 68.5 percent.

Meanwhile, Xinjiang's import and export volume with Belt and Road Initiative countries reached 458.37 billion yuan by 2025, a 14.7 percent year-on-year increase. Xinjiang also increased its trade with ASEAN, Africa, West Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.

Notably, Xinjiang's export structure continued to improve: mechanical and electrical product exports totaled 186.5 billion yuan, up 40.7 percent. Among these, shipments of automotive parts, electrical equipment, and electronic components increased significantly, while exports of high-tech equipment related to new-generation production facilities grew by nearly 70 percent.

Exports of agricultural products, including walnuts and grapes, also gained momentum, leading to a 25.4 percent increase in Azerbaijan's total agricultural exports.

Li Qinghua, Deputy Director of Urumqi Customs, said Xinjiang's foreign trade has demonstrated resilience and steady growth despite global challenges. Future efforts will focus on improving regulatory efficiency and service levels to support Xinjiang's high-level opening to the outside world.

BEIJING, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) — History has proven that confrontation and antagonism will only cause harm and lead to regression, while dialogue and cooperation can promote prosperity and progress, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Friday.

The Chinese diplomat made this statement at a regular press conference, answering a question related to the 2026 annual session of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Noting that Vice Premier He Lifeng of the State Council of the People's Republic of China attended the forum, Guo Jiakun said that the positive message in his speech was addressed to the entire world: China is unwaveringly committed to advancing high-quality development, expanding high-level opening-up, promoting accessible and inclusive economic globalization, and creating a more equitable and rational international trade and economic order.

"No matter how the situation develops, China will continue to act as an anchor of stability in an uncertain world, providing opportunities, confidence, and momentum to the entire world," Guo Jiakun noted.

“We are ready to work with all parties to overcome differences through dialogue, strengthen mutual trust through cooperation, and fulfill commitments through action, as well as to jointly confront global challenges and build a community with a shared future for humanity,” he added. -0-

Beijing, January 23 (Xinhua) — The number of valuable invention patents in mainland China will reach 2.29 million by the end of 2025. Their growth rate was 2.2 percentage points higher than the overall growth rate of invention patents in the country, the State Intellectual Property Administration of China reported on Friday.

According to the agency, by the end of 2025, the number of valid patents for inventions issued in mainland China will reach 5.32 million.

The agency also reported that the share of valuable invention patents in the total number of valid invention patents in mainland China in 2025 was 43.1 percent, which is 2.9 percentage points more than in 2020.

“This reflects the continued growth in the share of patents for inventions that have higher technological complexity, greater market value, and more stable intellectual property rights protection,” Liang Xinxin, head of the Strategic Planning Department of the aforementioned agency, said at a press conference.

Around 70 percent of valuable invention patents are in strategically important emerging industries. The fastest growth was seen in areas such as information technology management, computer technology, and medical technology, where artificial intelligence-related patents occupy one of the leading positions globally.

In 2025, the number of valuable patents for inventions per 10,000 people reached an average of 16, exceeding the target of 12 patents set for the period of the 14th five-year plan for economic and social development of the country (2021-2025), the department noted.

Noting that it serves as an important indicator for measuring innovation performance, Liang Xinxin said the "average ownership" indicator is intended to guide innovation efforts from quantity to quality.

"In the next five years, we will guide innovative companies to prioritize patent quality and develop more key valuable invention patents, promoting the development of new-quality productive forces," Liang Xinxin explained. -0-
