Kyiv, January 29 (Xinhua) — Ukraine and Russia conducted the first exchange of bodies this year on Thursday. Petro Andryushchenko, head of the Ukrainian Center for the Study of the Occupation, announced this on Telegram.

Paris, January 29 (Xinhua) — Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on Wednesday denied reports of a NATO-US agreement on Greenland.

"It's not an agreement," M. Frederiksen told French television channel France 2 when asked about US President Donald Trump's announcement in Davos that he had reached an agreement with NATO on Greenland.

JOHANNESBURG, January 29 (Xinhua) — At least 11 people were killed and eight others injured in a road accident on the R102 highway near Lotus Park, south of Durban, in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province, on Thursday morning, local media reported.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation, citing ALS Paramedics, the local emergency services, reported that 11 people, including one child, died at the scene after a truck collided with a minibus. Eight more people were seriously injured and taken to hospital for emergency treatment.

TIANJIN, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) — In preparation for the launch of the light rail transit (LRT) system in the Kazakh capital Astana, 20 LRT train operators from Kazakhstan will undergo training in the north Chinese city of Tianjin for three months.

The LRT project in Astana is being implemented with the participation of Chinese companies, including the Tianjin Rail Transport Corporation (TRT). This is the first light rail network in Astana and in Central Asia as a whole.

For cadets from Kazakhstan, TRT Corporation developed a rigorous training program consisting of theoretical courses, training on simulation systems, and, finally, practical internship on rolling stock, so that they gain a thorough understanding of dispatching technologies and operating regulations for rail transport based on Chinese standards.

The Astana LRT project, covering over 21 kilometers, will reportedly fully implement Chinese technological standards and utilize a Chinese-made automated driverless system. It is expected that after training in Tianjin, Kazakhstani workers will be able to more easily and quickly adapt to LRT operations.

Training for personnel for the Astana LRT project began in Tianjin in June 2025, when a group of 29 people arrived from Kazakhstan. They were replaced by a second group of 20 in December of that year.
