BEIJING, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) — A number of joint proposals for promoting cross-strait exchanges and cooperation were put forward at a think tank forum of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Kuomintang (KMT) in Beijing on Tuesday.

The 15 proposals presented cover five aspects of inter-coastal cooperation.

Forum participants issued a unified call for the restoration of normal cross-strait travel, demanding that the Democratic Progressive Party administration lift restrictions on people-to-people exchanges and promptly resume normal direct sea and air passenger travel between the Taiwan Straits.

Regarding cooperation in emerging sectors, participants proposed joint efforts to implement landmark projects within the framework of the "Artificial Intelligence Industrial Production" program and to create an innovative artificial intelligence center with global impact.

Joint proposals were also put forward for cooperation and exchanges between the two banks in the fields of medicine and healthcare, environmental protection, disaster prevention and mitigation.

The participants called on compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to unite, adhere to the 1992 Consensus, oppose separatist activities aimed at achieving “Taiwan independence” and external interference, and safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

The forum, themed “Prospects for Cross-Strait Exchanges and Cooperation,” was attended by more than 100 people from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, including staff from CPC and Kuomintang think tanks, as well as representatives and experts from various sectors such as tourism, industry, science and technology, health care, and environmental protection.

LONDON, February 3 (Xinhua) — Greater Manchester Police in Britain responded to reports of a light aircraft crash in Littleborough, near Rochdale, northwest England.

According to the BBC, police, fire, and air ambulance crews were previously dispatched to the scene of a suspected plane crash in a field near the M62 motorway in Littleborough. Two people were believed to have been on board, one of whom escaped with a parachute.

Almaty, February 3 (Xinhua) — Kazakhstan's manufacturing industry is expected to grow 6.4 percent in 2025, the country's prime minister's press service reported on Tuesday.

The highest growth rates were demonstrated by the following sectors of the manufacturing industry: mechanical engineering (growth of 12.9 percent), production of finished metal products (13.6 percent), light industry (13.2 percent), chemical industry (9.8 percent), and production of building materials (9.7 percent).

KHARTOUM, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) — Sudan's armed forces on Tuesday announced that their forces entered the town of Kadugli, capital of South Kordofan state in southern Sudan, after more than two years of siege by the Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N).

"The Sudanese Armed Forces have broken the siege of Kadugli and entered the city," the Sudanese Armed Forces' Special Operations Forces said in a brief statement.

A military commander confirmed to Xinhua that Sudanese armed forces had entered Kadugli and begun to take control of key facilities, displacing the SRF "from their positions in and around the city."

He said the next phase of the Sudanese army's actions would focus on stabilizing security, protecting civilians and opening roads for humanitarian access to the area.

Almaty, February 3 (Xinhua) — Kazakhstan's national oil operator KazTransOil will increase the cost of transporting Russian oil through its main pipeline system for transit through Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan, effective March 1. The company's press service announced this on Monday.

The cost of transportation will increase by USD 0.12 (0.4 percent) and will amount to USD 28.02 per ton excluding value added tax.

The pumping of Russian oil to Uzbekistan via the KazTransOil main oil pipeline system began in 2017 along the Omsk-Pavlodar-Shymkent route to the Shagyr oil loading terminal in Kazakhstan, where the oil is loaded into railway tank cars and then transported by rail to Uzbekistan.

KazTransOil resumed transit of Russian oil to Uzbekistan last December. From January to September 2025, Russia delivered 7.5 million tons of oil to Uzbekistan via Kazakhstan.

TEHRAN, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Tuesday that he has instructed the country's Foreign Ministry to conduct "fair and equal negotiations" with the United States.

St. Petersburg, February 3 (Xinhua) — 155 lacquer panels from the Chinese Hall in the Zubovsky Wing of the Catherine Palace have been recreated by Chinese artisans and delivered to Tsarskoye Selo. This was reported on Tuesday by the St. Petersburg Culture Committee's website, "Culture of St. Petersburg."

The total area of the lacquer panels is nearly 170 square meters. The restoration work took approximately two years, carried out by masters from the Beijing Xinxingshi Art Company using analogs provided by the museum.

As St. Petersburg Vice Governor Boris Piotrovsky noted on his Tegegram channel, the historical panels, like the rest of the interior of the apartments of Russian Empress Catherine II, were destroyed during the Great Patriotic War.
