BEIJING, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) — China has seen a continuous decline in serious crimes and a marked reduction in the number of crimes committed, which affects people's sense of security, Miao Shengming, deputy prosecutor general of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), said in Beijing on Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference, Miao Shengming noted that the number of criminal cases in China has decreased to the lowest level in the past 25 years.

From January to November 2025, the country's prosecutor's offices reviewed arrest requests for 873,000 people and authorized the arrest of 604,000 people, which is a decrease of 15.6 percent and 12.9 percent, respectively, year-on-year.

BEIJING, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) — China on Thursday imposed zero tariffs on certain imported goods destined for consumption by residents of the Hainan Free Trade Port (HFTP).

The policy, which took effect on the same day, was announced in a joint statement by the Ministry of Finance, the General Administration of Customs and the General Administration of Taxation.

The policy stipulates that import duties, as well as value-added tax and consumption tax, levied both at the import stage and in the domestic market, will not apply to eligible goods purchased by Hainan PST residents from designated retail stores.

UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) — China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Sun Lei on Wednesday called for a concerted global effort to combat terrorism, warning that increasingly sophisticated terrorist threats pose serious challenges.

The international community must adhere to the concept of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security and show zero tolerance for terrorism, he told the UN Security Council.

Maldybaev Kyrgyz National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater in the Kyrgyz capital.
