Tehran/Kyiv, March 28 /Xinhua/ — Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Saturday said it destroyed a warehouse of Ukrainian anti-drone systems in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) that were used to assist US forces.

Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesman for the Iranian Armed Forces' Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters, reported that a joint operation by the IRGC air and naval forces in Dubai destroyed a warehouse housing Ukrainian anti-drone systems, along with 21 Ukrainians.

As Interfax-Ukraine reported on Saturday, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Georgiy Tykhyi denied this information, calling it a “lie.”

"This information is not true. It's fake," the agency quotes Diana Davityan, press secretary for Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

Beirut, March 28 (Xinhua) — Four people, including three journalists, were killed around midday on Saturday when an Israeli airstrike hit a car in the Jezzine district of southern Lebanon, Lebanese officials said.

The dead journalists were identified as Al-Manar TV correspondent Ali Shuaib, Al-Mayadeen TV reporter Fatima Ftuni and cameraman Mohammad Ftuni.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the attack, calling it a grave violation of international humanitarian law. He stated that journalists are civilians protected by the Geneva Conventions and UN Security Council Resolution 1738, which prohibit attacks on journalists not directly participating in hostilities.

J. Aoun called on international organizations to intervene to stop attacks on Lebanese territory and expressed condolences to the families of the victims and representatives of the media.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated on Saturday that A. Shuaib was a member of Hezbollah's elite Radwan intelligence unit and was operating under the cover of a journalist for the Al-Manar television channel, which is affiliated with the movement. However, no evidence was presented to support this claim.

Kinshasa, March 28 (Xinhua) — At least nine people were killed and 12 others injured in a mine collapse in the Rubaya mining region of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), local media reported Saturday, following a series of recent deadly accidents in the region.

According to local media, the incident occurred on March 27 at the Gasasa mining site in the Rubaya district, where two shafts suddenly collapsed while artisanal miners were descending into underground galleries to extract minerals. Local sources say some of the injured are in critical condition.

Rescue efforts are hampered by unstable ground and a lack of necessary equipment, a common problem in artisanal mining areas where safety standards are often minimal.

Since 2024, the Rubaya mining region has been under the control of the rebel group March 23 Movement (M23). Last November, DRC authorities designated the region a "red zone," officially banning mining and mineral trading there.

The Rubaya region has been plagued by mining accidents. Earlier this month, a mine collapse caused by heavy rains killed more than 200 people, including around 70 children. In January, several mine shafts collapsed in coltan mining areas, reportedly killing at least 200 people. Some estimates put the death toll at over 400, not including those still missing.

Athens, March 28 (Xinhua) – Twenty-two people died after a boat carrying migrants drifted for several days at sea off the Greek island of Crete, the Greek Coast Guard reported on Saturday.

According to the agency's press release, 26 survivors who had sent out a distress call were rescued near the island on March 26. The survivors reported that 22 people died en route from Libya due to lack of food and water.

Survivors say they set off from Tobruk, Libya, on March 21, paying smugglers up to €8,660 (around $10,000), but the ship drifted off course and drifted in the open sea for several days.

Among those rescued, two men from South Sudan were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking. –0–

BEIJING, March 28 (Xinhua) — Since the launch of independent customs operations throughout Hainan Island on December 18 last year, the Hainan Free Trade Port (HFTP) has begun to tangibly show the fruits of institutional openness, giving new impetus to global trade and investment.

The results of the world's youngest and largest free port, located in the island province of Hainan in southern China, are already evident. Over the past 100 days, the Hainan Free Port's foreign trade volume has exceeded 80 billion yuan (approximately $11.6 billion), an increase of 32.9 percent year-on-year. The port welcomed 737 new foreign-invested enterprises, including Siemens Energy /Hainan/ Co., Ltd. The number of visa-free passengers entering the Hainan Free Port increased by more than 54 percent.

Currently, the share of duty-free tariff lines in the Hainan Free Trade Zone has increased to 74 percent, compared to 21 percent before the independent customs operations regime was introduced. Imported products whose added value after processing in Hainan reaches at least 30 percent of their original value will be able to be imported for sale in other regions of China without customs duties.

These data highlight the viability of the Hainan FTA and the high attractiveness of its institutional advantages to stakeholders worldwide.

Representing the highest level of openness in the modern world, free trade zones play a unique and important role in connecting markets, attracting investment, maintaining stability in production and supply chains, and promoting free trade. In doing so, they contribute to strengthening global stability.

The Hainan Free Trade Zone (FTP) has enormous potential for growth in free trade and investment. Its unique location along the Belt and Road links domestic and international markets. China is striving to transform the FTP into a key gateway to the country's opening up in the new era.

Preliminary results indicate that the Hainan Free Trade Port is becoming a new frontier in China's opening-up process and a new hub for global cooperation. During its construction, China will steadily increase its level of openness in key areas such as trade, investment, and factor flows, while gradually establishing a policy and institutional system commensurate with its status as a high-level free trade port.

Unilateralism and protectionism are on the rise, and the international trade and economic order is facing serious challenges. A commitment to openness and inclusiveness, as well as promoting mutually beneficial cooperation, is more important than ever to stabilizing the global economy.

The Hainan Free Trade Zone is an opportunity for both China and the world. By expanding institutional openness, it has every opportunity to further boost free trade and an open global economy.

BEIJING, March 28 (Xinhua) — The China Manned Space Administration (CMSA) announced that it will start accepting proposals from April 1 for a human space exploration program aimed at addressing critical strategic, fundamental, and advanced scientific challenges such as ensuring long-term healthy human existence during future space station and lunar landing missions.

This program aims to create an atlas of the human body in space, build a database of human body research in space, and obtain a number of innovative scientific results that could benefit both the health of astronauts on long-term orbital flights and the population of Earth.

It is also part of the country's efforts to accelerate the creation of aerospace and technological capabilities, according to program guidelines released by CMSA this week.

The program, which will use human tissue samples, organoids, and cells as research subjects, will study the effects of microgravity on bone and muscle, as well as the impact of long-term spaceflight and post-return conditions on the heart and blood vessels, metabolism, cognitive function, and aging processes.

Space medicine experiments are among the priority research areas aboard China's Tiangong space station, which translates as "Heavenly Palace." According to the CMSA, a total of 387 projects have been submitted since the call for proposals was published in June 2023, 53 of which have been implemented in orbit.

China plans a crewed lunar landing by 2030. Additionally, two crews will arrive at the Tiangong orbital space station this year, with one of the participating taikonauts expected to spend more than a year in orbit. As long-duration crewed space missions become more common, astronaut welfare has become a matter of public concern.

Research in space medicine has also helped improve public health on Earth.

According to Li Yinghui, a researcher at the China Astronaut Research Center, the country has made several advances in this field, including completing the country's first research into a space-based organ chip and the world's first chip for artificial blood vessels. The results of these studies have provided theoretical and technological support for research in the fields of heart health, muscle health, neurodegenerative diseases, human aging, drug resistance, and screening. -0-

URUMQI, March 28 (Xinhua) — A container truck with TIR (Transport International Road) marking left the Irkeshtam Port in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Friday, marking the successful completion of China's first international transport operation under the TIR multimodal transport scheme.

This shipment of loaded goods, consisting of 32 packages of Chinese-made auto parts, was dispatched on March 16 from Xianyang International Airport in Xi'an. It was then transported by rail from Xi'an to Kashgar, then transited via TIR through the Irkeshtam border crossing, and will ultimately be delivered to Uzbekistan. The entire journey from dispatch to departure took 11 days, which is 3-5 days faster than traditional shipping.

The key innovation of this service is the deep integration of two highly efficient transportation modes—multimodal transport and TIR—with an intelligent customs control system. Its implementation not only provides companies with more flexible, efficient, and cost-effective cross-border logistics solutions but also reduces overall logistics costs and further improves the multimodal transportation system from China to the West, South Asia, and Europe.

Irkeshtam, one of China's westernmost land border crossings, borders Kyrgyzstan and serves as an important hub connecting Central Asia, West Asia, and even Europe. -0-
