Chengdu, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) — Sustained rainfall-induced seepage, which softened mudstone on a very steep slope, triggered a landslide in southwest China's Sichuan Province. An investigation report released Saturday found no direct link between mining activities and the disaster.

A report released by the provincial Department of Natural Resources described the disaster in Jinping Village, located in Junlian County, Yibin City, as a complex natural disaster involving a sudden high-altitude landslide that turned into a mudflow that traveled a long distance.

Milan, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) — Italy "will not be able to join" the US-proposed "Peace Council" because its charter contradicts the Italian Constitution, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on Saturday.

Gaza, February 7 /Xinhua/ — The number of Palestinians killed in Israeli airstrikes since the outbreak of hostilities on October 7, 2023, has reached 72,027, while 171,651 have been wounded, the Gaza-based health ministry reported.

The ministry said in a press statement that 174 new deaths recorded between January 30 and February 6 were added to the official tally after approval by the relevant government committee.

The report added that since the ceasefire in Gaza came into effect on October 10 last year, 576 Palestinians have been killed and another 1,543 people have been injured.
