Bishkek, February 22 /Xinhua/ — In 2025, the Chinese economy demonstrated significant and, in many ways, exemplary resilience in advancing its course toward high-quality development. It continued to be a key driver of global economic growth, serving as a significant contributor and stabilizing element to the global economy. This was stated by Chinese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Liu Jiangping in an opinion piece recently published on the website of the Kyrgyz news agency AKIpress.
As the Chinese ambassador noted, China's economy demonstrated robust growth last year despite persistent negative trends in the global economy. The country's gross domestic product (GDP) exceeded 140 trillion yuan (approximately $20.26 trillion) for the first time, growing 5 percent year-on-year in comparable prices. Amid slowing global economic growth, China, which accounts for approximately 17 percent of the global economy, accounted for approximately 30 percent of global GDP growth, serving as a key and sustainable driver of global development.
Meanwhile, China's foreign trade turnover exceeded 45 trillion yuan for the first time, maintaining growth for the ninth consecutive year. China remained the top trading partner for more than 160 countries and regions, while import and export volumes increased with more than 190 countries and regions worldwide. High-tech exports grew by 13.2 percent year-on-year.
Liu Jiangping noted that in the past year, China's economy demonstrated high resilience, underwent dynamic renewal, and focused on high-quality development. The added value of the country's high-tech manufacturing industry among enterprises with annual revenues of 20 million yuan or more increased by 9.4 percent, and its share of total added value in the manufacturing industry reached 17.1 percent.
"The active development of technologies such as artificial intelligence, embodied artificial intelligence, and human-machine interaction ensured growth in the production of memory chips and servers by 22.8 percent and 12.6 percent, respectively," the diplomat said.
In 2025, final consumer spending contributed 52% to China's GDP growth. Retail sales of both household appliances and telecommunications equipment exceeded 1 trillion yuan. Online retail is growing rapidly: the annual express delivery volume reached 198.95 billion packages, equivalent to 141 packages per capita and representing a 13.6% year-on-year increase.
According to Liu Jianping, last year the Chinese economy demonstrated significant potential in harnessing both material and intellectual resources. China formed the world's largest energy supply system, as well as the largest clean power generation system. The installed capacity of green power generation accounts for approximately one-third of the global total. The total installed capacity of renewable energy sources, including wind and solar power, exceeded that of thermal power, while the installed capacity of new energy storage systems exceeded 100 million kW for the first time, accounting for over 40% of the global total.
No less remarkable is the level of scientific and technological investment. In 2025, China's R&D expenditure reached 3.9 trillion yuan, and its R&D intensity exceeded the average of OECD countries for the first time.
Liu Jiangping added that in 2025, China's economy demonstrated its inclusive and win-win nature. The country's import volume reached a record high of 18.48 trillion yuan. Increased imports were recorded with more than 130 countries and regions, with annual agricultural imports approaching 1.5 trillion yuan. Under the zero-tariff policy on 100 percent of goods, imports from 43 least developed countries that maintain diplomatic relations with China increased by 9 percent. The expected volume of transactions at the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) exceeded $80 billion.
"The stable development of China's economy creates additional opportunities for the socioeconomic development of the Kyrgyz Republic and contributes to the qualitative deepening of practical cooperation between China and Kyrgyzstan," the ambassador emphasized, adding that, according to Chinese customs data, bilateral trade volume reached $27.2 billion in 2025, an increase of 20 percent year-on-year and a new all-time high. Imports from Kyrgyzstan increased by 86 percent.
The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project is proceeding according to schedule. To date, the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway Company has completed procurement in Kyrgyzstan worth over $70 million, creating over 1,600 local jobs and providing vocational training for over 430 local employees. Meanwhile, a waste-to-energy project—a waste-to-energy plant in Bishkek—is scheduled to be commissioned in 2025, and a 100 MW solar power plant in Chui Oblast has been connected to the grid.
"Chinese companies, relying on financial and technological resources, continue to invest in the Kyrgyz economy, implementing projects based on the principles of mutual benefit and sustainable development," emphasized the head of the Chinese diplomatic mission in Kyrgyzstan.
Liu Jiangping noted that, going forward, China intends to consistently expand high-level opening-up, deepen international cooperation, and work with partners to address global challenges, including climate change and the slow recovery of the global economy.
