UN, February 28 /Xinhua/ — In February, UN agencies distributed food to approximately 200,000 families, or nearly 1 million people, in the Gaza Strip, despite rations being halved, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported.

BEIJING, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) — China's carbon dioxide emissions per 10,000 yuan (1,445 U.S. dollars) of GDP fell 5 percent year-on-year in 2025 as the country made significant progress in energy conservation and carbon dioxide emission reduction, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Saturday.

According to the agency, in 2025, energy consumption per 10,000 yuan of GDP, excluding energy used as raw materials and non-fossil energy sources, decreased by 5.1 percent compared to 2024.

Electricity generation from clean energy sources such as nuclear, hydro, wind and solar power reached nearly 4.25 trillion kWh, an increase of 14.4 percent year-on-year.

Production of new energy vehicles (NEVs) reached more than 16.52 million units, up 25.1 percent year-on-year. By the end of 2025, the NEV fleet on the road totaled 43.97 million units, up 12.57 million from the end of 2024.

Washington, February 27 (Xinhua) — Nuclear talks between the United States and Iran have made "significant progress" toward an agreement that is "within reach," Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi said in an interview with CBS News on Friday.

Iran has agreed "never, under any circumstances, to possess nuclear materials that could be used to make a bomb," Oman's foreign minister said, calling it a "great achievement."

SHANGHAI, February 28 (Xinhua) — The China-SCO Collaboration Center for Metabolic Diseases was established in the eastern Chinese metropolis of Shanghai on Friday. The opening ceremony was attended by Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev and Deputy Head of the National Health Commission of China Zheng Zhe.

The new center is based at the prestigious Ruijin Hospital affiliated with the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Medical College. As Shanghai's first national-level platform for specialized professional cooperation within the SCO, the center aims to coordinate the efforts of SCO countries to jointly address issues related to metabolic diseases and develop systemic management in this area, thereby contributing to improving the well-being of the people of all member states.
