BANGKOK, July 25 (Xinhua) — The Thai navy on Friday declared martial law in several areas of the eastern coastal provinces of Chanthaburi and Trat, citing national security concerns along the border with Cambodia.

The Border Defense Command in Chanthaburi and Trat provinces announced the order on Friday evening, which took immediate effect in eight districts in the two provinces.

BANGKOK, July 25 (Xinhua) — Thailand will consider a ceasefire, but it must be based on the conditions on the ground, the Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

The statement from the Foreign Ministry said the Thai government would like to thank Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for his ceasefire proposal, “which Thailand fully agrees with in principle and will consider.”

However, the ministry noted that Cambodian armed forces continued their “indiscriminate attacks” on Thai territory throughout Friday.

“Any ceasefire must be based on the relevant conditions on the ground. Thailand places the highest priority on the safety of civilians, and Cambodia’s actions at this time demonstrate a lack of good faith and continue to put civilians at risk,” the statement said. The Thai government “has an obligation to fully defend its sovereignty and its citizens,” the Thai Foreign Ministry added.

As of 9:00 p.m. Thursday local time, 14 Thai citizens had been killed and 46 injured in clashes near the Thai-Cambodia border, according to Thailand's Ministry of Public Health.

Met Meas Phekdey, deputy governor of Cambodia's Oddar Meanchey Province, told Xinhua by telephone that one villager was killed and five others were injured when Thai shelling hit Cambodian territory on Thursday.

Tbilisi, July 25 (Xinhua) — Cargo transit through Georgia's transport corridor continues to grow steadily. According to the country's Economy Ministry, in January-June 2025, the volume of container transportation along the Middle Corridor between China and Europe via Georgia amounted to 9,849 TEU (twenty-foot container equivalent unit), which is 173 percent higher than the same period last year (3,608 TEU).

Significant growth was also recorded on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line. In the first six months of 2025, 9,393 containers were transported on this route, which is approximately 59 times more than in the same period of 2024.

The cargo turnover of Georgian sea ports also shows growth. The ports of Batumi and Poti processed 7 million tons of cargo in 6 months, which is 5.9 percent more than a year earlier. The volume of container transshipment reached 375,654 TEU, which is 19.5 percent more than the same period last year.

Air cargo transportation figures are also growing rapidly. In January-June 2025, 16.5 thousand tons of cargo passed through the country's international airports, which is 57.6 percent more than a year earlier /10.5 thousand tons/.

Tbilisi, July 25 (Xinhua) — Georgia has launched a state program to restore the population of red deer (Cervus elaphus maral), a rare species listed in the Red Book, the country's Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture said on Friday.

The programme is being implemented at the initiative of the National Wildlife Agency as part of the National Species Recovery Plan.

As part of the program, a specialized farm for breeding red deer, covering an area of 60 hectares, was opened in the Algeti National Park /Kvemo Kartli region/.

The facility is equipped with modern monitoring systems, including camera traps and collars with satellite communication channels.

The opening ceremony of the farm was attended by the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili and the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture David Songulashvili.

According to D. Songulashvili, the restoration of the red deer population is a “historic step” in the protection of biodiversity.

He stressed that the long-term goal of the project is to form viable and sustainable populations throughout the country. “Our duty is to preserve for future generations the natural wealth that has formed Georgia’s unique ecosystem for centuries,” the minister noted.

As part of the event, seven deer bred in the Tbilisi Zoo were released into the protected area of the Algeti National Park. At the first stage, their number will increase to 15, after which the animals will be gradually released into the wild.

The choice of the Algeti Park is explained by its geographical location in the central part of the Caucasus, as well as favorable natural and ecological conditions. Since the restoration of Georgia's independence, this is the first large-scale project to revive the population of the Caucasian red deer. –0–

SHANGHAI, July 25 (Xinhua) — A total of 170 overseas companies and 27 institutions have joined the eight China International Import Expos (CIIE), the organizer of the expo announced at a press conference on Friday.

According to the organizer, more than 50 countries and international organizations have confirmed their participation in the national comprehensive exhibition, which will be held within the framework of the upcoming 8th CIIE this year. ISTANBUL, July 25 (Xinhua) — Diplomats from Iran and the EU3 (France, Britain and Germany) have agreed to continue consultations following talks in Istanbul on Friday on lifting sanctions and the nuclear issue, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi said.

The closed-door meeting took place at the Iranian consulate in Istanbul, with the Iranian delegation led by K. Gharibabadi and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi.

At the end of the meeting, which lasted about four hours, K. Gharibabadi said on the X social network that Iran and the EU3 countries had held “serious, frank and detailed” discussions on the nuclear issue and the lifting of sanctions.

He added that the Iranian side expressed sharp criticism of the position of European countries regarding the recent conflict between Iran and Israel and reaffirmed its “principled position”, including regarding the snapback mechanism.

The snapback mechanism is a provision in the 2015 nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, that allows other parties to the agreement to reimpose all international sanctions if Iran fails to meet its obligations.

WARSAW, July 25 (Xinhua) — Poland on Friday signed an agreement with the United States to receive a $4 billion loan guarantee from Washington to speed up the modernization of the Polish armed forces.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Poland Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that the republic is ready to effectively use these funds to strengthen its defence and security.
