BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) — China's Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday released a preliminary decision on an anti-dumping investigation into canola seed imported from Canada.

Let us recall that the relevant investigation was initiated on September 9, 2024.

The Ministry of Commerce has come to the following preliminary conclusions: the import of rapeseed from Canada was dumping, the domestic rapeseed industry suffered material damage, and there is a cause-and-effect relationship between dumping and actual losses. In this regard, it was decided to introduce temporary anti-dumping measures in the form of security payments.

Starting August 14, importers of the aforementioned goods will have to transfer 75.8 percent of the security deposits owed to Canadian companies to Chinese customs authorities. -0-

BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) — The first China-Russia Baked Fish Cooking Invitational Competition 2025 was held in the Chinese border city of Tongjiang on Thursday. Thirteen teams from the two countries showcased their unique food culture and culinary skills, leading news portal chinanews.com reported.

Divided with the Jewish Autonomous Region of Russia by the Heilongjiang /Amur/ border river, Tongjiang has the status of a medium-sized port for Chinese-Russian waterway trade and a transshipment port for import-export cargo in the framework of multimodal transportation by river and sea. In addition, it is also famous as a “paradise of beautiful ecology” and the main place of compact residence of the Nanai people in China, for whom fish is the main traditional food product.

At the competition site, some chefs baked fish using traditional signature recipes, while others used innovative blends of seasonings and spices. The air was filled with the tantalizing aroma of grilled fish. The jury members carefully tasted each dish served, rating them on a number of criteria – from the heat treatment mode, taste sensations and aftertaste, to creative presentation and successful cultural integration.

Based on the results of the evaluations, three gold medalists, three silver medalists, four bronze medalists, and four incentive prize winners were determined.

At the event, tourists and connoisseurs of gastronomy were not only able to try the skills of culinary experts from China and Russia, but also enjoy variety performances by actors from both countries, as well as enjoy participating in lottery games and winning.

The competition organisers emphasised that the event was not only a genuine gastronomic celebration, but also a lively cultural exchange experience, during which the peoples of the two neighbouring countries were able to strengthen mutual understanding and deepen their friendship with the help of the “border-transcending language of cuisine”.

Thanks to the success of this competition, Tongjiang City plans to organize similar cultural exchange events in the field of cuisine and gastronomy on a regular basis and in diversified formats in the future. -0-

According to the agency, about 4.35 million new non-state enterprises were founded in the first six months, which is 4.6 percent more than in the same period a year earlier. In total, 13.28 million new business entities were created in the country during the reporting period.

The growing global popularity of domestic intellectual property objects has led to explosive growth in the cultural sector. BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) — China has released a set of (trial) rules on the management of early warning of infectious disease outbreaks, aiming to regulate and guide relevant work, prevent and defuse public health risks, and protect people's lives and health.

The document, published by the National Administration of Disease Control and Prevention, consists of four sections and 19 articles. It sets out the objectives of the work, the scope of application and terminology, the basic procedures and mechanisms of the work, and the measures and guarantees.

The rules require early warning of public health threats arising from notifiable diseases, emerging infectious diseases, diseases of unknown etiology and other high-risk infections.

Such risks require notification of potentially affected populations and relevant departments and institutions to take precautionary measures in advance in accordance with regulations.

The rules also require disease control agencies at all levels to collect surveillance data, conduct risk assessments, identify possible public health threats, and determine epidemic risk levels, which should be classified into four levels.

Detailed risk classification standards will be formulated separately by the above-mentioned country agency.-0-

Foreign trade turnover via Manzhouli Port hits new high in first half of 2025

BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) — The volume of exports and imports through Manzhouli Highway Port in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region increased 31.4 percent year on year to 47.14 billion yuan (about 6.6 billion U.S. dollars) in January-June 2025, hitting a new all-time high on an annual basis at the port, the Manzhouli city government website reported, citing local customs data.

Achieving such an impressive figure not only demonstrates a significant improvement in customs clearance efficiency at the port and the growth in trade volumes through it, but also demonstrates the powerful driving force behind the development of the port, which is considered an important platform for China's opening up to the north.

The statement, posted on the website of the Manzhouli City Hall, noted that in recent years, the active promotion of the Belt and Road Initiative and the construction of the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor have opened up unprecedented opportunities for the development of the Manzhouli Highway Checkpoint.

Against this background, the local customs has been actively innovating the supervision model to better serve foreign trade enterprises and promote the rapid growth of trade through the said checkpoint. On the one hand, it ensures the effective implementation of the “three mechanisms” of information sharing, emergency response, comprehensive analysis and reporting to prevent the risk of “jam” and “congestion” at the checkpoint. On the other hand, the customs has been stepping up efforts to simplify customs procedures to promote the stable export of agricultural products and electromechanical products.
