BEIJING, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) — The number of TIR (Transportation International Road Transport) truck shipments from the China-SCO Regional Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone (hereinafter referred to as the "China-SCO Demonstration Zone") in Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province, reached 239 units in the first seven months of 2025, up 134.3 percent year on year, according to a post on the zone's official Wechat account.

The data also showed that the value of cargo carried by these vehicles was 156 million yuan, up 190.5 percent from the same period last year.

TIR is an international system that simplifies the transportation of goods between countries. Within its framework, the goods are sealed at the starting point of the route and checked only upon arrival at the destination, and at intermediate border crossings, checkpoint officers only check the TIR carnet data and the customs stamp for the vehicle. This reduces the travel time and reduces possible risks associated with administrative customs control procedures and damage to the goods. China joined the TIR Convention in July 2016.

At present, there are 4 TIR road freight routes operating as a starting point in the China-SCO Demonstration Zone, including China-Russia, China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan and China-Kazakhstan. They now transport 40 types of goods, including food, as well as mechanical and electrical equipment.

Recently, a truck loaded with food products, electrical equipment, etc., left the China-SCO Demonstration Zone for Moscow under the TIR system. The cargo, worth approximately 1.3 million yuan, is expected to arrive in the Russian capital in 9 days.

Currently, on average, at least one vehicle under the TIR system departs from the designated area to Russia or Central Asia every day.

Moscow, August 14 /Xinhua/ — Preparations for a meeting between Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump have entered the final phase, Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov said at a briefing on Thursday.

"Preparations for the meeting between the presidents of Russia and the United States have entered their final phase. Considering that the meeting was announced only five days ago, that is, on the night from last Friday to Saturday, everything is being done in an intensive mode, a lot of technical issues are being resolved, including visa issues. And, of course, first and foremost, the political component of the summit is being actively worked out," said Yu. Ushakov.

The event was attended by a delegation of students and teachers majoring in design from Russian universities. BEIJING, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) — Since the beginning of this year, two automobile checkpoints on the Chinese-Kyrgyz border in the Kizilsu Kyrgyz Autonomous Prefecture of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have seen a significant increase in border crossings, the press service of the prefecture said.

As of August 11, the Irkeshtam and Torugart checkpoints exceeded 179.6 thousand and 17 thousand person-times this year, an increase of 82.6 and 293.21 percent, respectively, according to the latest data from the Xinjiang Border Administration.

The increase in border crossings at the Irkeshtam checkpoint was achieved due to increased efficiency and capacity in passenger transportation following the launch of cross-border tourism services at this border crossing.

According to a representative of one of the local transport companies, the company operates twice a week on the recently opened international passenger route from the city of Atushi /located in the above-mentioned district/ to the Kyrgyz city of Osh. BEIJING, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) — A delegation of six young Russian artists who won prizes in the China-Russia exhibition "Multicolored World" visited Beijing from Aug. 6 to 10, the Beijing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries reported on its official Wechat account.

Guests from Russia took part in the opening ceremony of the exhibition, which started on August 7 at the museum complex at the Zhonghua Centennial Monument in the Chinese capital, and received their well-deserved awards.

The exhibition is held in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the Victory of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War and the World Anti-Fascist War. ISLAMABAD, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) — Three policemen were killed and six others wounded on Thursday when militants fired at a police van in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police sources said.

A police rapid response vehicle came under fire in Upper Dir district early Thursday morning, sources told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
