BEIJING, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) — The passenger flow through Horgos Port in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region had reached 1.04 million as of Aug. 21, up 28 percent year-on-year, according to data from Horgos Port. The milestone of 1 million passengers crossing the state border at this checkpoint was reached 43 days earlier than last year.

Thanks to the policy of mutual visa-free regime between China and a number of countries, as well as the consistent introduction of favorable measures for people-to-people exchanges, more and more Chinese and foreign travelers choose Khorgos checkpoint to cross the border. Many choose to travel between China and Kazakhstan by international buses or private cars.

Tour guide An Yanjiao said, "We are going on a one-day trip to Kazakhstan. Now, going abroad has become more convenient and faster, and the time it takes to go through customs has been reduced. Today, there are 49 tourists in our group, and everyone is very happy."

Yu Shen, a tourist from Anhui Province (Eastern China), said: “This is the second time I have traveled to Kazakhstan via the Khorgos border crossing. The first time was two years ago, when a visa-free regime was introduced between China and Kazakhstan, and I went to Kazakhstan by bus. This time, I have the opportunity to travel to this country by car, and then travel through Russia to Northern Europe.”

Currently, there are 8 international passenger transportation routes between China and Kazakhstan. As the popularity of cross-border travel increases, Khorgos attracts more and more Chinese and foreign tourists for visiting, tourism and transit. -0-

WUHAN, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) — China's Sinopec Corp., one of the country's three largest oil companies, announced Thursday that it has discovered a shale gas field with proven reserves of 146 billion cubic meters at the junction of Hubei Province and Chongqing City.

The discovery of the new field, which has been named “Hunxing,” is of great importance for ensuring the country’s energy security.

The gas in this field is located at a depth of 3.3 to 5.5 km. According to Sinopec, the geological structure of the field is very complex, which creates great difficulties in terms of its exploration and development.

Thanks to technological innovations, the volume of test gas production from one well at this field increased from 89 thousand to 323.5 thousand cubic meters per day.

Sinopec is currently developing five large shale gas fields, including Fuling, Weirong, Qijiang, Yongchuan and Hongxing. In particular, the Fuling field in Chongqing is estimated to have shale gas reserves of over 1 trillion cubic meters, while the other four fields have 100 billion cubic meters. -0-

HAIKOU, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) — An exhibition titled "Masterpieces of Contemporary Russian Art Masters" is being held at the Hainan Provincial Museum in the capital city of Haikou from July 18 to October 8 as part of the China-Russia Cross Culture Years.

The exhibition, organized by the Union of Artists of Russia, presents 5 sculptures and 30 oil paintings by 10 Russian masters of contemporary art.

“The exhibition is dedicated to contemporary Russian art, not the usual classics,” said the exhibition’s curator Zhu Yufeng, adding that the aim of the exhibition is to introduce the Chinese audience to the richer and more vibrant contemporary Russian art.

"Art knows no boundaries. Both Chinese and Russian art seem like two parallel mountain ranges that will eventually converge at the top of world art," Zhu Yufeng noted.

Director of the Hainan Provincial Museum Zhu Lei said the exhibition uses art as a bridge to strengthen humanitarian ties between the two countries and add cultural momentum to the construction of the free trade port on Hainan Island. -0-

Sh. Sharif noted that he is looking forward to participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin and the commemorative events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Islamabad hopes to work with Beijing in promoting the “version 2.0” of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), deepening cooperation in agriculture, mining, energy and resources, aviation and space, information technology, infrastructure construction, etc., and in reviving Pakistan’s socio-economic development, the chief minister said.

The Prime Minister said Islamabad attaches great importance to the safety of Chinese workers in Pakistan and will make every effort to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens and projects.

Wang Yi, in turn, said that Beijing welcomes Sharif's visit to China and looks forward to cooperation with Pakistan and all SCO parties to promote the "Shanghai spirit" and turn the summit into an event of friendship, solidarity and rich results.

Calling China-Pakistan relations unprecedented, the minister said no matter how the international situation develops, the traditional friendship between China and Pakistan will remain unshakable and unbreakable. Building a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future is aimed at deeply intertwining the future and destinies of the two countries, promoting common development and prosperity, and working together towards modernization, he added.

China has always been Pakistan's most reliable partner and strongest supporter, Wang Yi said. The two sides need to accelerate the construction of CPEC "version 2.0", focus on agriculture, industry and mining, promote mutually beneficial cooperation in Gwadar port, industrial parks, connectivity and high technology, comprehensively expand Pakistan's independent development capabilities and enhance its resilience to external challenges, he said.

The Foreign Minister also stressed that China supports Pakistan in resolutely combating terrorism in all its forms and creating a safe and favorable environment for national development and bilateral cooperation.
