BISHKEK, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — China is one of the key architects of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Its contributions have made the organization more influential, dynamic, open and global, former Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Alikbek Jekshenkulov told Xinhua.
According to him, China has been consistently promoting mutually beneficial ideas of integration since the first days of the SCO's founding. The country is making efforts to align its initiatives with regional programs of other countries, and is also actively implementing projects in the areas of security, infrastructure, and education. The role of the organization is especially important in the Central Asian region, where it helps ensure stability, counter terrorism, develop economic interconnectedness and promote intercivilizational dialogue.
"The success of the SCO is largely due to its unique principles – the "Shanghai Spirit": mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, respect for cultural diversity and the desire for joint development. These principles are becoming especially relevant for the entire world at the current tense stage of human development," he said.
According to the politician, in the modern world, where unrest and turmoil are intertwined, and where anti-globalization and protectionism tendencies are growing, the SCO can become a factor of stability and trust.
"The SCO promotes a model of fair, inclusive globalization, where each country retains national sovereignty, cultural identity and economic independence. This is especially relevant now against the backdrop of the crisis of traditional Western models of global governance," he said, adding that the SCO is not and should not become an antagonist for anyone, and its task is to form an alternative model of global interaction. "In the conditions of a multipolar world, this is natural and necessary," the diplomat emphasized.
The SCO summit will be held in the Chinese city of Tianjin from August 31 to September 1. According to the former head of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry, in the current conditions of global instability – be it geopolitical conflicts, growing sanctions pressure, aggravation of economic contradictions or a crisis of trust in international institutions – the upcoming summit is of particular importance.
“I believe that during the summit, the leaders of the SCO countries will not only strengthen strategic cooperation, but also outline new guidelines in such key areas as ensuring regional and global security, developing common infrastructure, the digital economy, and humanitarian areas,” said A.
