BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) — Flower arrangements have been completed in Tiananmen Square and Chang'an Avenue in central Beijing ahead of a large-scale military parade to celebrate Victory Day scheduled for early September.

Ten compositions were created using more than 100 plant varieties, the Beijing Municipal Gardening and Greening Administration reported. WASHINGTON, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — U.S. Special Presidential Envoy Steven Witkoff said on Tuesday that he will meet with Ukrainian officials in New York this week.

“I’m meeting with the Ukrainians this week. So I’ll be meeting with them this week in New York,” he told Fox News.

BERLIN, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and visiting Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever on Tuesday spoke out against the confiscation of frozen Russian assets, warning of systemic and potentially dangerous consequences of the move.

Speaking at a joint press conference, the leaders stressed the need for a cautious approach.

“From a legal point of view, it is not that simple,” said De Wever, adding that the Russian Central Bank’s assets have legal immunity. Yerevan, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — An agreement to deepen bilateral relations was reached at the fourth meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Armenia and Iraq held in Yerevan on Tuesday, the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Economy reported.

The head of the above-mentioned department, Gevorg Papoyan, and the Minister of Agriculture of Iraq, Abbas Al-Maliki, who are co-chairs of this commission, noted the great untapped potential of economic cooperation between the two countries.

The prospects for the development of bilateral trade and economic relations were discussed, in particular, in the areas of trade, industry, agriculture, energy, high technology, digitalization, cybersecurity, healthcare, infrastructure and interregional cooperation.

G. Papoyan noted that statistical data clearly demonstrates the stable dynamics of cooperation between the two countries. He pointed to the fact that in the first half of this year, trade turnover between Armenia and Iraq exceeded 171 million US dollars, almost doubling compared to the same period last year. At the same time, according to the Armenian minister, there is real potential for increasing the volume of bilateral trade, which must be realized.

He noted that Armenia attaches great importance to organizing business forums and mutual visits of business delegations, and the country's government is ready to support the activities of the private sector, encouraging the creation of joint ventures, opening of representative offices and branches.

Following the meeting, a number of documents were signed: the protocol of the fourth meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Armenia and Iraq, a memorandum of understanding between the chambers of commerce and industry of the two countries, a memorandum of understanding between the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Armenia and the Chamber of Commerce of Iraq, a memorandum of understanding between the Armenian Association of Builders and the Federation of Contractors of Iraq.

Yerevan, August 26 (Xinhua) — Armenia and the United Kingdom intend to raise the relations between the two countries to the level of strategic partnership, the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.

According to the press service, the corresponding agreement was reached on Tuesday at a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan and UK Secretary of State for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty, which took place within the framework of the second round of the Armenia-UK strategic dialogue, which took place in Yerevan.

BEIJING, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — The 17th session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) of China will be held in the Chinese capital from Sept. 8 to 12.

The corresponding decision was made on Tuesday at the 48th meeting of the chairman and vice-chairmen of the NPC Standing Committee, which was chaired by NPC Standing Committee Chairman Zhao Leji.

A number of bills will be considered during the upcoming session, including bills on nuclear energy, public health emergencies, national parks and the safe handling of hazardous chemicals.

The session will also consider a package of amendments to existing laws, including the Arbitration Law of the People's Republic of China and the Prison Law of the People's Republic of China.

It was noted at the meeting that legislators will discuss a number of proposals, including the consideration of a draft revision of the PRC Law on Cybersecurity and the ratification of the Extradition Treaty between the PRC and the Republic of Serbia.

In addition, the session is expected to consider several reports from the State Council of the People's Republic of China, devoted to such topics as the implementation of the national socio-economic development plan for 2025, the execution of the central government budget for the current year, and public debt management for 2024.
