A grand opening ceremony for the renovated State Circus building was held in Volgograd. Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin announced the opening.

“Today, on the eve of the holidays, a significant event took place – the opening after a full-scale reconstruction of the Volgograd Circus. This is part of our systematic work to update cultural sites throughout Russia. The circus has not been reconstructed for more than 50 years, since its opening in 1967. The work started in January 2023 and was completed on time. The area of the building increased to 10 thousand square meters. m. New sound, lighting and multimedia equipment have been installed for more colorful performances. All engineering systems in the hall have been completely replaced. I am sure that the updated circus will become not only a popular place for young Volgograd residents and their parents, but also a point of attraction for tourists from all over Russia. Today the first performance will take place in the renewed circus. It is gratifying that the participants in the special military operation, their children and relatives will be the first to see it. I express my sincere gratitude to everyone who took part in the organization and implementation of this project. The successful result was made possible thanks to the effective work of the Ministry of Culture and the personal attention of Minister Olga Borisovna Lyubimova, as well as coordinated interaction with colleagues from the regional government. Special thanks to Governor Andrei Ivanovich Bocharov for his constant attention to the project and persistence in resolving the issue of financing, which made it possible to complete the work on time. A key role in the execution of the work was played by the company “Unified Customer”, a leading operator in the field of government contracts in construction. I would also like to thank the contractors, builders, all the specialists involved and, of course, the circus team,” said Marat Khusnullin.

Thanks to the renovation, the circus building now has more space for animals, creating modern, safe, and comfortable conditions for them. To achieve this, a new building, covering approximately 3,000 square meters, was added to the central portion of the building.

"In the Volgograd Region, with the support of the President of the Russian Federation, the Russian Government, and the Ministry of Culture, extensive work is underway to create modern cultural facilities. Most recently, the modern Young Spectator's Theater in Volgograd opened its doors to residents and visitors of the Volgograd Region. At the direction of the President of Russia, work continues to establish the Ilya Ivanovich Mashkov Museum of Fine Arts on the premises of the world-famous Central Department Store, as well as a cultural and educational center named after our world-famous and beloved compatriot, Alexandra Nikolaevna Pakhmutova. Today marks a very important day for the Volgograd Region's cultural sector – the large-scale renovation of another cultural facility beloved by many generations of Volgograd residents and our guests – the Volgograd Circus – has been completed. Thank you to the President of our country, the Russian Government, and to you personally, esteemed Marat Shakirzyanovich, for your support of the Volgograd Region and your active participation in the implementation of development projects," said Volgograd Region Governor Andrei Bocharov.

Currently, Unified Customer is engaged in the reconstruction of four more Rosgoscirk branches – in Tver, Yekaterinburg, Voronezh, and Irkutsk.

"Over the three years of reconstruction, the builders have accomplished a significant amount of work, so that today the first audiences can enjoy the updated interior and the vibrant circus acts. The building's interior has been given a new look, and the auditorium now boasts modern sound and lighting equipment, making the performances even more vibrant and expanding the creative possibilities for directors. Over 500 specialists worked on the construction site throughout this extensive modernization," said Karen Oganesyan, General Director of the Unified Customer Production Company.

According to Sergei Belyakov, General Director of Rosgoscirk, the opening of the company's Volgograd branch will go down in the city's history as a symbol of the unity of artists and audiences who gather to share moments of delight and wonder at future performances: "The renovated Volgograd Circus will become a true jewel of the city's cultural life, a place where generations meet, where new stars are born, and an atmosphere of joy, inspiration, and creativity reigns. It will feature state-of-the-art equipment, comfortable conditions, and programs long awaited in Volgograd. We hope the circus will become the pride of the hero city and will continue to delight audiences for many years to come. Many exciting premieres, exciting projects, and encounters with talented artists from around the world lie ahead."

Furthermore, security was a key focus during the circus's renovation. The building's entrances are now equipped with all modern security screening systems. Fire alarm, notification, and smoke removal systems, a fire water supply system, and a fire suppression pumping station have been installed.

December 19, 2025 Modernization of the Sozvezdie motor ships for the 2026 navigation season. New cabins and public areas for your relaxation on cruises along the rivers of Russia.

Dear friends,

The inter-navigation period is a time when ships undergo a transformation. Work is already underway on board to make your 2026 journey even more comfortable and enjoyable.

New, cozy cabins and public spaces for a variety of leisure activities—we're ready to share with you what's new awaiting guests on the ships of our general partner, Sozvezdie Cruise Company, for the 2026 season.

Motor ship "Moonlight Sonata".

The most extensive modernization will affect the Moonlight Sonata. Instead of standard cabins on the main deck, there will be Junior Suite, Comfort, and Superior Comfort cabins with extra berths, creating more options for family vacations.

The forward section of the middle deck will be supplemented with two double panoramic cabins, offering a wide view of the changing river landscapes.

The former concert hall on the sun deck will be replaced by a spacious "Music Hall" with an expanded bar area. This will make the Moonlight Sonata lounge bar the most spacious in the Sozvezdie fleet.

The sundeck lounge area will also undergo changes: a modern interior, comfortable new furniture, floral arrangements, and designer lighting will create a uniquely relaxing cruise atmosphere.

The Blues restaurant on the lower deck will open completely renovated. Everything from the linens to the furniture will be updated, but the attentive service and favorite menu items will remain unchanged. A slight update awaits you in the upper restaurant, Jazz, where the furniture will be replaced.

A teen club will be located on the ship's main deck—a space for shared entertainment. Board games, intellectual quizzes, and workshops await teenagers.

A special photo zone will be located on the boat deck, where you can take beautiful photo postcards – vivid memories of the cruise that will stay with you for a long time.

Other public areas will also undergo a general modernisation: lobbies, halls, corridors and the central information desk.

Furthermore, the Moonlight Sonata will be the second ship in the Sozvezdie fleet to be fully equipped with electric locks in all cabins. The key card will not only provide access to your cabin but also serve as a convenient form of payment at the bar or reception.

The motor ship "Symphony of the North"

Some cabins on the middle and main decks will be upgraded to the A2 Comfort category, with modern finishes and a new level of comfort.

On the middle deck, the interiors of the corridor and recreation area will be renovated.

Starting in the 2026 navigation season, all four-deck ships will be equipped with large-screen cinemas on the sun deck, where you can enjoy an open-air movie while comfortably seated in soft beanbags.

Motor ship "Alexander Benois"

The corridor on the boat deck will be renovated. Vibrant decorative frescoes based on sketches by Alexandre Benois in the new interiors create a sense of visual and tactile depth. The new public spaces will be enhanced by copies of theatrical costume designs, for which the artist drew on motifs from folk toys and popular prints, as well as lithographed albums and fashion magazines from the last century.

Yuri Trutnev: The President's order to form the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor must be fulfilled.

Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

Source: Government of the Russian Federation – Government of the Russian Federation –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Deputy Prime Minister and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev held a meeting on the development of the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor.

“Following the results of the International Arctic Forum in March 2025, Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin instructed the Government to develop and approve a financial, economic and organizational model for the formation of the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor. A key section of the transport corridor is the Northern Sea Route. We have talked many times about how the Northern Sea Route can and should become the most important transport artery from Europe to Asia. Much work has been done to develop the Northern Sea Route. The volume of transit traffic increased from 2.1 million to 3.2 million tons, and the total volume of traffic in 2024 increased to almost 38 million tons. At the same time, the range of our cargo and, in fact, the points from which we send them are quite localized. This is LNG from the Novatek company, oil and oil products from the companies Gazprom Neft, Lukoil and NK Rosneft, cargo from the Norilsk Nickel company. In fact, the Northern Sea Route is not used for transporting goods located on the continental part of our country. To lift cargo to the Northern Sea Route, it is necessary to build railways, dredging, and most importantly, to understand the economy, determine the cargo base: what we can transport and what benefits these transportation will provide to the economy of our country. This work began in a number of regions. For example, the project “Ural Industrial – Ural Polar” was calculated. But this was quite a long time ago. In order to return to these tasks, the calculations need to be updated. This work must be continued. Another necessity, why we must do this, is that the Eastern range will not provide transportation of the required amount of cargo. To determine further directions and volumes of work along the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor, today we will talk about the work that should be carried out by Russian Railways, Rosatom, the Federal Agency for Water Resources and the constituent entities of the Russian Federation located in the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor zone. and let’s try to figure out what we must do to fulfill the order of the President of the Russian Federation. The work is very big, but it will help us “sew together” the entire territory of Russia, create new conditions for its economic development,” Yuri Trutnev opened the meeting.

Following the International Arctic Forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the updating of the Fundamentals and Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation. The draft decree is currently being revised based on proposals from the Presidential Executive Office.

"The Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor and its key component, the Northern Sea Route, are a natural transport artery for the transportation of Arctic raw materials and manufactured goods. The formation and development of the transport corridor is interlinked with the achievement of national interests in the Arctic and includes the development of mineral resource centers, technological and industrial advancement, national security, and ensuring a high quality of life and well-being for the population," noted Alexey Chekunkov, Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic.

The resource supply of the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor's cargo base was discussed. Minerals and their derivatives are the foundation for the development of the Northern Sea Route and the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor. Over the past 10 years (2014–2024), cargo traffic along the NSR increased from 4 million to almost 38 million tons. This year, it has already exceeded 35 million tons. Hydrocarbons, including LNG and gas condensate, oil, and petroleum products, account for 86% of the cargo transported. The combined share of iron ore concentrate, coal, and other bulk cargo does not exceed 3%. General and containerized cargo accounts for another 11%.

It was proposed to intensify geological exploration efforts, given the timeframe for field preparation. Also discussed was the creation of conditions for the development of deep processing, so that cargo transported along the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor would have greater added value.

It was proposed to include measures for the development of the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor as a separate section within the unified plan for the implementation of the Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation, taking as a basis the updated measures implemented within the framework of the Northern Sea Route plan.

The agenda included issues related to the development of shipping and railways to support freight transportation along the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor. According to Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin, the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor will be supported, among other things, through Russian seaports located west and east of the Northern Sea Route. The main ports of the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor outside the Northern Sea Route are the Big Port of St. Petersburg, Ust-Luga, Kaliningrad, Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Nakhodka, Vostochny, and Vladivostok. As part of the federal project "Development of the Backbone Network of Seaports" within the national project "Efficient Transport System," measures are planned to increase capacity by 2030: by 19.4 million tons at the seaport of Murmansk and by 17.8 million tons at the seaport of Vladivostok by 2030.

Rosatom, with the participation of federal executive bodies, including the Russian Ministry of Transport, is working within an interdepartmental working group to develop the range and volumes of cargo that could form the cargo base of the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor. Only after the cargo base is established and the corresponding cargo flows are identified will the Russian Ministry of Transport be able to prepare proposals, if necessary, for adjusting the federal project "Development of the Seaport Core Network" to create the necessary capacity at seaports.

A key element in the development of the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor is the availability of a fleet capable of navigating Arctic waters. The demand for the number and types of vessels will depend on the projected cargo traffic along the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor. To ensure reliable cargo transportation along the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor, it is crucial to establish long-term vessel charter contracts tailored to specific cargo flows. Long-term time charter contracts will allow shipowners not only to attract vessels from the market over the long term but also to plan for vessel construction, including at Russian shipyards. Defining the cargo base for the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor will also enable the development of long-term plans for the infrastructure leading to the seaports of the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor, including roads and railways.

"Each ministry and agency must address issues within their area of competence. These competencies are divided by decisions of the President of the Russian Federation and the Russian Government. I also ask all governors present to prepare proposals for the development of the subarctic zone. A separate issue concerns attracting investors. A significant amount of work falls to the Ministry of Natural Resources: they need to review subsoil development and geological exploration. The Ministry of Industry and Trade must consider the depth of mineral processing. There is no way to continue focusing solely on raw materials development. The Ministry of Transport is the organization that provides logistics for the entire country. I believe the next point of our discussion will be the strategic session that the Prime Minister will hold in June. This is the event at which we have the full right and responsibility to present proposals for the development of the Transarctic Transport Corridor. The Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, the Ministry of Economic Development, and representatives of the scientific community must participate in this work. We need to calculate what we can transport, which goods will benefit the country's economy, and calculate the return on investment. "The work of developing the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor is extensive, it is significant for our country, and it requires us to go beyond the existing framework and look to the future, and we must accomplish it," Yuri Trutnev concluded the meeting.

Security Council representatives expressed condolences to the families of the victims, solidarity with the people and government of Bangladesh, and wished a speedy and full recovery to the injured.
