BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday called for efforts to ensure a successful start to the implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030).

Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks at a New Year's tea party held by the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) — Recent operations by the Chinese mainland coast guard are aimed at maintaining normal navigation and protecting the lives and property of fishermen on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, Zhang Han, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said on Wednesday.

Answering a question from the media at a regular departmental press conference, Zhang Han again emphasized that both sides of the strait belong to one China and that Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu are part of China, and that so-called “forbidden or restricted waters” do not exist.

Zhang Han said that for a long time, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration had ignored the historical and factual reality that fishermen from both sides of the strait work together in traditional fishing grounds.

Almaty, December 31 (Xinhua) — An Air China plane departed from Kazakhstan's Almaty International Airport to Chengdu Tianfu International Airport in China on Tuesday evening, marking the launch of the first direct air service between Almaty and Chengdu.

The new route marks the first direct air service connecting Kazakhstan with southwestern China. Flights operate twice weekly, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, under flight numbers CA455/456, on Airbus A320 passenger aircraft.

Beijing, December 31 (Xinhua) — Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Nurlan Yermekbayev gave an exclusive written interview to Xinhua News Agency on December 31, in which he noted that the SCO, following the principles enshrined in the UN Charter and the SCO Charter, continues to support the Chinese government's efforts to protect its state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and generally opposes interference by external forces in the internal affairs of sovereign states.

Xinhua: The US recently approved large-scale arms sales to Taiwan, grossly interfering in China's internal affairs, seriously harming China's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, undermining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and thereby sending a gravely false signal to separatist forces advocating "Taiwan independence." All SCO member states firmly adhere to the one-China principle, emphasize non-interference in each other's internal affairs, and support each other in defending national sovereignty and territorial integrity. N. Yermekbayev noted that, as is well known, at the SCO summit in Tianjin on September 1, 2025, the heads of member states approved the SCO Development Strategy to 2035, which defines the principles and goals of the Organization's development for the future. This important document emphasized that member states oppose the use of double standards, strictly adhere to the norms and principles of international law, and resolutely oppose any attempts to interfere in their internal affairs and undermine the cohesion of the SCO.

Furthermore, in the Tianjin Declaration adopted following the summit, the SCO member states emphasized that the principles of mutual respect for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of states, equality, mutual benefit, non-interference in internal affairs, and non-use of force or the threat of force are the foundation for the sustainable development of international relations.

According to him, with regard to the one-China principle, back in June 2002, the Declaration adopted by the leaders of the SCO member states following their meeting in St. Petersburg enshrined a provision confirming that the government of the PRC is the sole legitimate government representing all of China, and that Taiwan is an integral part of Chinese territory.
