For some, summer means relaxing on the beach or mountain hikes, walking in parks or traveling around Russian and foreign cities. But for athletes, it is also a time of constant training and competitions. In honor of Physical Culture Day (it will be celebrated on August 9), we talked to RUDN students who took part in the Summer Student Track and Field Championships in Smolensk and returned from there with third place in the team and personal victories.

The competitions were held in July at the Smolensk State University of Sports. 362 athletes from 46 universities in 21 regions of Russia competed. The disciplines included walking, running, hurdles and barriers, long jump, high jump and pole vault, triple jumps, relay races, javelin, hammer and discus throwing, and shot put.

The composition of the RUDN University track and field team:

1. Polina Khomyakova (400, 800 m run, 4 x 400 m relay).

2. Anastasia Matveeva (long jump, triple jump, 4x100m relay).

3. Timofey Shilov (long jump, triple jump).

4. Elizaveta Ipatova (100, 200 m run).

5. Victoria Isakova (200, 400 m run, 4 x 400 m relay).

6. Jesse Otaigbe (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay).

7. Donaldson Onoigboria (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay).

8. Viktor Shebalin (400 m run, 4 x 400 m relay, 4 x 100 m relay).

9. Nikita Gubarev (400 m run, 4 x 400 m relay).

10. Veronika Divakova (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay).

11. Denis Abitabile (javelin throw).

12. Ruslan Zalyaev (shot put, discus throw).

13. Lada Pelevina (high jump, 4x100m relay).

14. Daria Semyonova (100, 200 m run, 4 x 100 m relay).

15. Tengei Senyo (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay).

16. Kirill Kovalev (200 m run).

Ahead – 16 meters

"I liked how the event was organized, especially the stand where you could leave your autograph. I was also pleased that there was a broadcast of the competition. However, I was a little disappointed that the relay race was scheduled in parallel with the jumps, and my plans to participate in it did not come true," says Timofey Shilov, a bachelor of the RUDN University Agrarian and Technological Institute (Standardization and Metrology major, 3rd year).

Timofey has been involved in track and field since he was 13, starting with short-distance running, but then, together with his coach, he discovered his talent for the triple jump. After which the young man began to specialize in this discipline. At the competition, the student won silver in the triple jump with a result of 15.51 m and bronze in the long jump with a result of 7.18 m.

"I am not entirely happy with how I performed at the championship. If I had been more focused from the first attempts, I would have shown myself better. In general, I strive to overcome the 16 m mark in the triple jump, so I focus more on achieving a personal result than on winning the competition," – Timofey Shilov, Bachelor of Science at the RUDN University Agrarian and Technological Institute (Standardization and Metrology, 3rd year).

In love with running

Polina Khomyakova ran for gold at the summer championship. The student covered 400 m in 54.77 seconds. She has been involved in track and field since elementary school and has been involved in the sport for about 13 years.

"My physical education teacher noticed me and invited me to join her track and field section. I fell in love with running from the very beginning of my career; just long jumping or throwing a javelin was boring. I loved competing for first place in a race, which I was good at! My greatest achievement was third place in the Russian Championship in the 4x400m relay," says Polina Khomyakova, a bachelor's student in the RUDN University Faculty of Philology (Psychology major, 3rd year).

According to Polina, the RUDN team coach Olesya Vladimirovna Pogorelova helped her prepare for the competition perfectly. The girl is happy with her result in Smolensk, but she certainly has new goals for the future. She dreams of winning a personal medal in the 400 m race at the Russian Championship, because these are the largest track and field competitions in our country.

In mother's footsteps

Another gold medalist of the Summer Student Championship from RUDN is Anastasia Matveeva. She began to seriously engage in athletics after entering our university in 2020, although she has been in sports since childhood. The girl's first major victory was third place in jumping at the Russian Championship under 20 in 2021 in Ufa, and a year later she won bronze at the Russian Championship.

"I followed in my mother's footsteps in triple jumps. She also did this discipline and was quite successful. But I also run relays. Because it is a team effort, I am even more nervous before relays than before my own event, but I really like running. At the competition in Smolensk, I performed even better than I expected. I jumped 13.24 m, but I always want to be even better. My main goal for the future is to improve my results and meet the standards for a master of sports," – Anastasia Matveeva, Master of Philology at RUDN (Psychology major, 1st year).

NSU student team showed the best result in 10 years at the 32nd International Mathematical Olympiad IMC-2025

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Novosibirsk State University –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The International Mathematical Olympiad is the most important student competition in mathematics in the world. IMC-2025 was held from July 28 to August 3 in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria. More than 430 students from leading universities around the world took part in it. For NSU, this is the 12th Olympiad, and every year the university students take honorable places in it.

This year, Novosibirsk State University was represented at IMC by: Valery Pyatkin, Stanislav Yelovatsky, Timofey Vasiliev with Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics and Ivan Frolov with Faculty of Natural Sciences.

The tasks for the mathematical Olympiad are selected at a jury meeting. Students' work is assessed according to the presented criteria by team leaders, professors and associate professors of universities.

Based on the results of the individual competition, the NSU team received four medals: two gold, one silver and one bronze. The team leaders are Anatoly Albertovich Ruban, associate professor of the Department of Mathematical Analysis of the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty of NSU, and three-time IMC participant Danila Sergeevich Belousov.

– I have been participating in IMC since my first year, this was my third trip. The Olympiad was held in the IMO format. We solved 5 problems every day for two days. The problems are non-standard and quite different from those we solve in Russia. The Olympiad is taking place in a somewhat familiar place, the city of Blagoevgrad, which is located in Bulgaria. Students from all over the world, from South America to China, come there. I was surprised by the number of Russian students, about 15% were from Russia: they represented Moscow universities, St. Petersburg State University and NSU. In my free time from solving problems, it was nice to talk to everyone and take a walk, – shared my impressions Stanislav Yelovatsky, a 4th-year student of the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty of NSU.

In the team competition, NSU students beat the teams from HSE and MSU, taking 15th place – this is the best result in the last 10 years of the university's participation in the International Mathematical Olympiad.

Congratulations to the guys on their excellent result!

The government has expanded the opportunities for Russian manufacturers to participate in government procurement and to receive government support measures

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Government of the Russian Federation – Government of the Russian Federation –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The validity period of an entry in the register of Russian industrial products, which confirms their domestic origin, has been increased from three to five years. The decree on this was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

Extending the validity period of the record will reduce the costs of companies for localization level examination, and will also significantly reduce the administrative burden on domestic manufacturers. Thus, participation in government procurement will become possible without regularly reissuing the documentation required for admission to the auction.

In addition, the decision taken will give producers the opportunity to apply for government support measures that are designed for a period of more than three years.

The three-year validity period of the registry entry was established by the Government in 2022.

The document will be published.

Marat Khusnullin: Four regional bypasses of cities are being built this year under the national project "Infrastructure for Life"

Bypass of Severomorsk, Murmansk region

By 2030, 50 bypasses around populated areas will be built in Russia on the instructions of President Vladimir Putin. In particular, under the national project "Infrastructure for Life", work is underway this year on the construction of four such facilities with a total length of more than 30 km on the regional road network alone, Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin reported.

"Road bypasses around cities play an important role in relieving the street network and increasing traffic safety. They allow transit transport to be routed outside of populated areas, which reduces traffic jams, reduces noise levels and improves the environmental situation. Thanks to such solutions, drivers do not have to waste time driving slowly through the city, and residents receive calmer and more comfortable streets. By 2030, on the instructions of the President of Russia, Rosavtodor, the State Company Avtodor, and the regions are planning to build more than 50 bypasses of populated areas. Of these, about 36 bypasses of cities will be built on federal highways. No less large-scale work is being carried out on the regional network: out of 14 planned bypasses of populated areas, six have been built and put into operation. Active work within the framework of the national project Infrastructure for Life is being carried out at four more sites: in Perm Krai, Astrakhan and Pskov Regions, and the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. As a result of the commissioning of the facilities, we will not only receive alternative routes for motorists, but will also create the opportunity for the sustainable development of urban infrastructure," said Marat Khusnullin.

Bypasses of populated areas help in the creation and optimization of transport routes, allowing transit freight traffic to be diverted outside residential areas and reducing the load on the road network.

"Two significant regional facilities have already been commissioned this year. Thus, the construction of the northwestern bypass of the city of Kemerovo, 47.6 km long, has been completed. It was built in three years instead of the planned six years. Another important project is the second stage of the construction of the bypass of Ruzayevka in the Republic of Mordovia. The length of the new road is 4.1 km. These measures have significantly relieved the street and road network of populated areas from transit transport, which has improved the quality of life of people and positively affected the environmental situation," emphasized Minister of Transport Andrei Nikitin.

Under the national project “Infrastructure for Life”, not only are new bypasses being built, but existing ones are also being updated.

"Updating and maintaining city bypasses in good transport and operational condition is also an important task of the national project "Infrastructure for Life". In the current road season alone, repair, major repair and reconstruction work is underway at 34 such sites. Their total length is 102.1 km," said Igor Kostyuchenko, Deputy Head of the Federal Road Agency.

The construction of the northern bypass of Pskov continues in the Pskov Region. Its length will be 8.7 km. At present, the construction readiness of the second launch complex is 22%. The bypass will become the most important link in the region's transport system. It will connect the regional and federal highways: Pskov – Gdov – Slantsy – Kingisepp – Kuzemkino – Krakolye and A-212 Pskov – Izborsk – border with the Republic of Estonia. In addition, the bypass will provide convenient access to the special economic zone "Moglino", which will have a positive effect on the industrial potential of the Pskov Region.

In the Republic of North Ossetia – Alania, a 7.1 km long bypass of the village of Arkhonskaya will be built. It will be connected to the regional highway Vladikavkaz – Ardon – Chikola – Lesken-2, which connects four districts of North Ossetia and is the main transport corridor for freight and passenger transportation across the territory of the republic. The project includes the construction of a bridge across the Gizeldon River with a length of 92.3 running meters and two overpasses – at the intersection with the main highway at the entrance to the village and at the intersection with the inter-municipal road Arkhonskaya – BMK – Khumalag – "Kavkaz".

In addition to the construction of new bypasses of populated areas, much attention is paid to the modernization of existing ones. In the Republic of Adygea, a 5 km section of the Maikop bypass has been repaired. The highway connects the regional road Maikop – Giaginskaya – Psebay – Zelenchukskaya – Karachayevsk and two federal highways: Maikop – Tuapse and R-217 "Kavkaz". In addition, the Maikop bypass is a key transport artery not only for local residents, but also for guests of the republic, as it is part of the tourist route to the Black Sea coast. The highway can also be used to reach the mountain attractions of the region.
