What does the pulse on the left hand show? How to do acupressure on the ears? This and much more was learned by RUDN medical students at the summer school "Heritage and Health: a Summer Exploration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Qilu Culture" at Shandong Second Medical University in the Chinese city of Weifang. Our university has been cooperating with this educational institution for several years now.

For almost two weeks, participants in the educational program attended lectures by local doctors and practical seminars, where they were told about modern methods of treating various diseases and about traditional Chinese medicine.

Needles, dots, pulse

In particular, students were taught the theoretical foundations of acupuncture and acupuncture. And they were given the opportunity to apply the acquired knowledge in practice.

"Each of us could voluntarily undergo an acupuncture session, having previously described our complaints: based on them, the specialist selected the necessary points of action on the body. We studied several key acupuncture points and the principles of working with them. It turned out that the needles are installed at different angles and rotated to achieve different therapeutic effects. We were also shown the technique of Gua Sha massage, which is performed with a small scraper to improve blood circulation and relieve muscle tension," – Sofia Soldatova, a student of the RUDN Medical Institute (major in General Medicine, 4th year).

In addition, the students were told about what problems in the human body can be understood by the pulse.

"According to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, the pulse on the right hand shows the condition of the spleen, lungs, and on the left – the kidneys, liver and heart. Chinese specialists determine that something in the body is not working properly by the rate, dynamism, depth and other parameters of the pulse," – Anna Davydova, a student of the RUDN Medical Institute (the direction of "General Medicine", 3rd year).

Theory and practice

RUDN students also learned about the differences in the Russian and Chinese medical education systems. And they saw how appointments are conducted in local clinics.

"To make an appointment, patients use special terminals where they insert ID cards for automatic registration. This significantly speeds up the process and minimizes queues. The reception structure itself is similar to Russian polyclinics. But as for education, in Russia, medical students have more clinical practice from their first years, while in China the emphasis is on theoretical training and they do not have such a large amount of practice in their junior years," says Sofia Soldatova, a student at the RUDN Medical Institute (major in General Medicine, 4th year).

According to students, in China it is mandatory to complete your studies to a PhD degree, which is not required in Russia.

Cultural program

Of course, the kids didn't spend all their days studying exclusively. During the summer school, they attended master classes on making dumplings, making kites, and Chinese calligraphy, attended a lesson on the martial art of tai chi, and explored local attractions.

“To understand the culture of China, we visited the magnificent Confucius Museum. The exhibition immerses you in the life and teachings of the great philosopher, whose ideas on harmony, education and ethics still shape the values of Chinese society and influence the entire world. But what I liked most was climbing Mount Taishan, one of the five sacred mountains of Tao and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is not just a mountain, it is a symbol of stability and spiritual rise of China. The views from the top and the ancient temples on the slopes left a feeling of touching eternity. China opened up to me from different sides: ancient and modern, spiritual and technological. Plus, I am glad that I managed to practice the Chinese language. Everyday conversations, discussions of new topics and immersion in the culture became a valuable experience,” Anna Davydova, a student of the RUDN Medical Institute (General Medicine major, 3rd year).

The summer school also helped RUDN students make new friends and feel the importance of international connections.

“Beyond the medical training, my trip to China gave me a strong sense of community. I met students from all over the world who shared my passion for medicine. Together, we explored beautiful cities, sampled authentic Chinese cuisine, and learned about traditions that broadened our understanding of cultural diversity in medicine. This experience not only strengthened my desire to pursue a career in medicine, but also deepened my understanding of the importance of global collaboration in healthcare. I left China with new knowledge, lifelong friends, and an even greater motivation to help others,” — Daria Zakharova, RUDN University Medical Institute student (General Medicine major, 2nd year).

In the Kalininsky district of St. Petersburg, repair work on Khlopina Street has been completed. The issue of the need to renew the road surface was raised atpersonal reception of citizens, which the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov held on November 29, 2024. Then the city leadership was addressed by the Associate Professor of the Higher School of Public Administration, Deputy Director of the Institute of Mechanics and Technology, Maxim Ivanov. On the instructions of the Governor, a large-scale set of measures was implemented to improve street infrastructure.

During the repair the following works were carried out:

More than 7,000 square meters of road surface and sidewalks were renewed; new thermoplastic markings were applied; speed bumps were installed to improve safety; curbstones were lowered to provide an accessible environment for people with limited mobility, elderly people, and parents with strollers.

The repairs were completed within the established timeframe and in compliance with the required quality standards.

The Governor of St. Petersburg noted that over 108 thousand people live within the boundaries of the Akademicheskoe municipal district, where Khlopina Street runs. The importance of the work carried out is also due to the fact that by the end of 2025, a major overhaul of Gzhatskaya Street, which intersects with Khlopina, will be completed. The new circuit will ensure movement around the microdistrict without exiting onto key highways – Grazhdansky Prospekt and Prospekt Nepokorennykh.

When we talk about the comfort and safety of the urban environment, it is important not only to develop initiatives in theory, but also to achieve their practical implementation. It is nice to see that our proposal was heard and implemented. This is an example of how science and government can work in the interests of society. Together – to a comfortable and safe St. Petersburg! Together we make the city better. Only forward! – said Maxim Ivanov.

The implementation of the project has become a vivid example of effective interaction between the government, the scientific community and citizens. Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, the Institute of Industrial Management, Economics and Trade and the Higher School of Public Administration continue to contribute to the development of the urban environment, and the student association "Public Administration Laboratory" demonstrates the practical significance of applied research in the field of state and municipal administration.

Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin held a working meeting with the Governor of the Tula Region Dmitry Milyaev, during which they discussed issues of the region’s socio-economic development.

"In the Tula Region, eight settlements are included in the list of support areas, where by 2030, according to the national project "Infrastructure for Life", it is planned to improve the quality of life of citizens by 30%. The task is ambitious, its solution must be approached comprehensively. In general, we see positive dynamics. For example, by the end of 2024, 85% of the roads of urban agglomerations were brought to standard condition. This figure must be maintained," said Marat Khusnullin.

The Deputy Prime Minister also noted that work on modernizing the housing and utilities sector is continuing in the region. The region will receive more than 3 billion rubles in treasury infrastructure loans to update the water supply system.

Tula Oblast has completed the program of resettling houses that were declared unsafe before January 2017. About 8 thousand people have moved to new housing since 2019. In addition, 291 public transport units were updated in 2023–2024.

Tula Region Governor Dmitry Milyaev expressed gratitude to Marat Khusnullin for his constant attention to the region.

"With the support of the federal center, over 42 billion rubles have been allocated to the Tula Region over the past five years, including for key social facilities – an oncology center, seven schools, the Zabota nursing home, 22 kindergartens, 20 housing and communal services facilities, sports infrastructure, landscaping and road facilities. This year, work continues within the framework of new national projects, and we are ready to increase the number of facilities," said Dmitry Milyaev.

The parties also discussed the implementation of road works in the region under the national project "Infrastructure for Life". In particular, major repairs of sections of the M-2 "Crimea" highway are currently underway. The road is an important transport corridor, which, among other things, connects the region with Moscow and is of great importance for the economy and transport infrastructure of the country as a whole.

Dmitry Chernyshenko: Preparation of the Education Development Strategy is an unprecedentedly large-scale process

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Government of the Russian Federation – Government of the Russian Federation –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

On August 19, the All-Russian Pedagogical Congress began its work at the National Center "Russia". The event brought together about 1.2 thousand teachers from all regions of the country, scientists from the Russian Academy of Education and the Russian Academy of Sciences, State Duma deputies and senators, representatives of executive authorities and public organizations.

Aide to the President of Russia Andrei Fursenko read out a greeting from President Vladimir Putin, in which the head of state, in particular, noted: "It is important that domestic pedagogy has always, at all times, been distinguished by a multifaceted, diversified approach, therefore, in our joint plans for the future, it is imperative to take into account the best traditions of the pre-revolutionary, Soviet and already modern Russian school. Based on this solid foundation, it is necessary to solve key issues – from updating the content of educational programs to training qualified teachers."

The participants of the event were also greeted by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, Minister of Education Sergei Kravtsov, head of the Ministry of Education and Science Valery Falkov, head of Rosobrnadzor Anzor Muzaev, State Secretary – Deputy Head of Rosmolodezh Denis Ashirov, and Chair of the State Duma Committee on Education Irina Belykh.

Dmitry Chernyshenko called the event historic – this is the first All-Russian Pedagogical Congress in the 21st century. Exactly 100 years ago, in 1925, the first All-Union Congress of Teachers took place.

"Today, our state education system is one of the best in the world. We are among the top 10 leading countries in terms of both the quality of general education and the volume of scientific research and development, and we occupy leading positions in international student and school Olympiads. This is the result of preserving the traditions of the Soviet scientific school and pedagogy and the decisions implemented by the Government together with the regions on the instructions of President Vladimir Putin over the past quarter century," said the Deputy Prime Minister.

The results of the national project "Education" became the basis for achieving national goals for 2030 and the planning period up to 2036 within the framework of new national projects – "Youth and Children", "Family", "Personnel" and national projects of technological leadership.

Dmitry Chernyshenko called the preparation of the Education Development Strategy for the period up to 2036 an unprecedentedly large-scale process. 15 working groups were created to work on the document – a total of almost 1.1 thousand experts, including teachers, scientists, representatives of employers and parents. In total, the groups held over 430 meetings and developed more than 300 initiatives.

Feedback was taken into account when preparing the strategy and action plan. Thus, the school remains the second most important institution after the family in the formation of patriotic feelings of citizens, the pride index for the country increased by 2.6 times from 2021 to 2024, and the share of schoolchildren wishing to go abroad decreased from 23 to 7% over three years. The positive assessment of the general education system doubled from 2016 to 2024. 97% of respondents believe that young people in Russia have every opportunity to realize their potential.

The State Services portal conducted a survey entitled "The Future of Education in Russia", in which about 340 thousand respondents took part. Discussions of the strategy took place in each subject, a centralized collection of proposals from the regions was organized – as a result, more than a thousand of them were collected.

Key aspects of changing the educational strategy were considered at strategy sessions with Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, in the State Duma during government hours chaired by Vyacheslav Volodin, and at the Federation Council chaired by Valentina Matviyenko. In total, about 900 questions and proposals were received from State Duma deputies and senators.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that qualitative challenges, as well as the goal, mission, and values of the strategy were formulated. They were compared with the fundamental documents. The key performance indicators of the strategy will reflect high-level changes in education – both qualitative and quantitative.

"The most important stage of the strategy discussion is starting now. In August, the entire country will join the discussion at the teachers' councils, and we will sum up the results at the Class Teachers' Forum. Work on the document will continue throughout this year. And after the strategy is approved by the President's decree, we will begin to formulate a plan for its implementation. I am confident that the congress will become a platform for constructive dialogue, bold ideas and specific decisions, initiatives that will strengthen Russia's leadership positions in the field of education," Dmitry Chernyshenko emphasized.

In his speech, Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov spoke about the achievements of recent years. Thanks to the national project "Education", in 2019, large-scale infrastructure projects began to be implemented, and education became systematic again. Centralization of management returned, unified educational programs and federal work programs synchronized with the State Final Attestation were developed and approved. Upbringing has again become an integral part of education, starting from kindergarten.

In schools and colleges, positions of director's advisors on education have been introduced. Several dozen textbooks on each subject are being replaced by unified state textbooks. Thanks to the attention to all subjects, including the new ones – "Fundamentals of Security and Defense of the Motherland" and "Labor", a broad outlook of schoolchildren is ensured.

Every week, all schools in the country hold classes on "Conversations about the Important" and "Russia – My Horizons". All schools are connected to a single digital platform – FGIS "My School" and a library of verified electronic educational materials.

Sergey Kravtsov outlined the importance of the key topic of the All-Russian Pedagogical Congress – discussion of the Strategy for the Development of Education.

As part of the implementation of the comprehensive program, it is necessary to strengthen the unified system of educational work at all levels of education, create tools for updating the content of education, technologies and teaching methods. They should ensure the fundamentality, flexibility and adaptability of the main educational programs based on advanced scientific achievements and taking into account the changing demands of the state, society and the labor market. It is also necessary to introduce a systemic approach to the organization and implementation of the educational and training process, develop tools for international humanitarian cooperation and expand the formats of historical education.

In addition, key tasks include ensuring the early harmonious development of each child’s abilities through mathematical, natural science, research, inventive, artistic, sports and musical components of educational programs, training highly qualified personnel for the economy, humanitarian and technological spheres, and other relevant tasks.

"The success of the strategy implementation depends on the main wealth of the Russian education system – on teachers. Their work achieves all the educational results that the country is proud of, they, in close cooperation with families, educate patriots of Russia, worthy citizens of the country, future professionals who will ensure our leadership in technical and humanitarian spheres. Neither artificial intelligence nor any other information technologies will ever be able to replace a teacher. Because only a person can instill spirituality, morality, culture, and value systems for life in a person. Our task is to surround teachers with attention, provide decent remuneration and conditions for their noble work," said Sergey Kravtsov.

As the head of the Ministry of Education and Science, Valery Falkov, noted, a comprehensive response to all the challenges discussed in the Education Development Strategy is contained in the new model of higher education.

"All of our key instruments that we have created in recent years – the large-scale program to support universities "Priority-2030", advanced engineering schools, student design bureaus and many others – are aimed at transforming the system of higher education. We formulated this task for ourselves several years ago and are consistently and purposefully moving towards obtaining a different result, carefully and evolutionarily changing the existing system. A comprehensive response to all of the challenges mentioned in the strategy is the transition to a new model of higher education," the minister emphasized.

The work of the All-Russian Pedagogical Congress continued with a panel discussion entitled “The Voice of School, University and College: Education through the Eyes of Practitioners.”

Participants and guests of the event also visited the exhibition of educational achievements and the exposition “Journey across Russia”.
