Hawthorn, rose hips and rowan berries appeared at weekend markets.

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

In early October, the first autumn berries—sea buckthorn, viburnum, and lingonberry—were joined by hawthorn, rose hips, and chokeberries and rowans from the forests of central Russia. These wild berries are known for their immune-boosting benefits. Farmers bring them from the Lipetsk, Oryol, and Tambov regions.

"Hawthorn can be called a natural medicine, but you should eat no more than a handful of it fresh per day. Rosehips are generally not eaten raw because of their prickly hairs; it's better to throw a few berries in a teapot. I don't recommend adding large amounts to hot drinks; they have a strong flavor: three to five berries are enough for a mug. Any berry you buy should be dry," says Irina from the Tambov region, a participant in the Moscow weekend market in the New Moscow area.

Red rowan contains vitamin C and carotenoids, and its relative, the black chokeberry, is renowned for its high content of rutin (vitamin P) and anthocyanins. Rosehip holds the record for the highest concentration of ascorbic acid, and hawthorn contains quercetin and heart-healthy organic acids.

These berries are purchased individually or in various combinations for adding to compotes and tea, as well as for making desserts and sauces. Autumn berries pair well with other seasonal produce, such as apples or pumpkin. Chokeberry juice serves as a natural coloring, and hawthorn adds a fruity accent to homemade meat dishes. For long-term storage, these berries can be frozen or pureed with sugar. You can also preserve their nutritional value by making pastilles or purees, which can be stored for a long time in sterilized jars. This method allows you to retain the maximum amount of vitamins without adding sugar. When choosing berries, pay attention to their appearance and the packaging, which should be free of moisture.

Volunteers from the Meshchansky District regularly send humanitarian aid to the SVO fighters.

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

On October 1, volunteers from the Meshchansky District of Moscow sent a shipment of humanitarian aid to participants in the Moscow Regiment's special military operation (SVO). Residents brought homemade and purchased items that will be useful to the soldiers on the front lines.

For safety and warmth

Volunteers sent over a thousand trench candles and 500 square meters of camouflage nets, 50 pairs of warm socks, as well as hygiene products, including shaving kit, toothpaste and toothbrushes, and wet wipes.

The production and collection of humanitarian aid was initiated by Kristina Samsonenko, a municipal deputy, and Yana Romanova, chair of the Youth Chamber of the Meshchansky District.

"Starting in 2023, we'll be organizing fundraisers to help the SVO fighters. These will definitely be held on New Year's, February 23rd, Victory Day, and the start of the winter season. Now is the perfect time to provide the fighters with additional warm clothing and heating equipment," said Kristina Samsonenko.

Trench candles and camouflage nets were made in the summer. The materials were provided by the Meshchansky Municipal District Council of Deputies, and the premises were provided by the "Workshop of Ideas" leisure center. More than 30 activists participated in the project.

The event's organizers also held events at the Festival Park, a site of the large-scale city project "Summer in Moscow." They taught visitors how to weave camouflage and explained the assistance needed by SVO participants.

What is needed most

Volunteers note that during the cold season, trench candles are more important than ever: they not only illuminate the dugout but also provide warmth. In the fall and winter, they are lit around the clock.

"One of our candles burns for four hours; we timed it. For our soldiers, 1,100 trench candles should be enough for more than a month of continuous use," noted Yana Romanova.

Camouflage nets are important regardless of the season: they cover existing and new positions, which are sometimes created daily. Concealment is also used in the rear, so nets are needed in large quantities.

How to participate

The collected humanitarian aid is sent to the SVO zone every two to three months. Activists from the Meshchansky District have already sent 16 shipments. These included over a thousand square meters of camouflage nets, 500 pairs of wool socks, 2,000 dry showers, and 5,000 dugout candles. Volunteers also donated a UAZ vehicle and five quadcopters.

At the "Workshop of Ideas" leisure center, 18 people participate weekly in making essential items: they ensure smooth production and teach beginners the techniques. Anyone is welcome to join the volunteer team. No need to bring anything; materials are provided on site. Volunteers also accept ready-made personal hygiene items and seasonal goods. Currently, this includes new warm socks and mittens.

Over the past three years, 239 humanitarian trips have been organized from the Southern Administrative District to the North-Eastern Military District.Kuntsevo volunteers donated thermal imaging shields to the SVO fighters.

You can participate in making humanitarian aid items or bring finished items to 68 Mira Avenue. Meetings are held every Monday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The next shipment is expected to arrive in early December.

Over 100 students from colleges, technical schools, and universities participated in the regional stage of the "First Student" project, organized by the Movement of the First. The competition involved pitching projects that addressed pressing youth needs. The regional stage was won by the NSU team "Psycheya," comprised of students majoring in Psychology. Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies (IMMT) NSU. The next stage is the finals in Moscow, where the girls will once again present their project to a jury and compete for a grant for its implementation.

"We presented our project, which we'd been developing over the summer, and also listened to the other participants' presentations. After the first seven teams had presented, we were asked not just to wait for the results but to participate in interactive activities. We completed stations with tasks that required teamwork, met other students, and also participated in a training session. The time flew by, and we were already at the awards ceremony. The result is first place in the regional round, which we're very happy about! Now we'll work on improving the project and preparing for the next stage of the competition," shared Alena Vorobyova, a third-year student at the Institute of Mathematical and Mathematical Engineering at NSU.

"As captain, you feel a special responsibility for the entire work: how it was structured, whether it was sufficient. Now we'll represent our region at the national level," added Anastasia Korotkova, a third-year student at the Institute of Mathematical and Mathematical Engineering at NSU. "A lot needs to be improved, but we're energized by this victory, so everything should work out!"

The NSU "Psycheya" team presented a project to create a platform for anonymous communication, prevention, psychological support, and adaptation assistance for first-year students.

"The event was a great opportunity for us not only to present our work but also to learn from other participants. I left inspired and full of desire to continue developing both myself and the team," said Ksenia Abysheva, a second-year student at the Institute of Mathematical and Mathematical Engineering (IMMT) of NSU.

For the Psyche team, winning the regional stage is an important step toward implementing a socially significant project aimed at supporting and integrating first-year students into university.

NSU students took part in the World Youth Rally in Nizhny Novgorod.

From September 17 to 20, the first World Youth Festival Gathering took place in Nizhny Novgorod, bringing together approximately 2,000 participants from Russia and 120 other countries. Among them was a delegation from the Novosibirsk Region, including NSU students and graduates.

Nizhny Novgorod, Russia's first youth capital, transformed itself for several days into a platform for international dialogue and the search for new solutions for youth policy development. The gathering's program combined educational and cultural formats: lectures and master classes by Russian and international speakers, concerts, quests, sports games, and excursions. Participants worked across seven key areas: media, creative industries, public administration, entrepreneurship, sports, education and science, digitalization, and IT.

"The gathering is an international platform for cultural exchange and networking. Such events create conditions for long-term collaboration, friendships, and professional connections, and contribute to strengthening the country's image as a hub for youth and business communication," notes Maxim Yemelyanov, a master's student at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at NSU.

According to him, the decision to participate was obvious after the World Youth Festival in Sochi in 2024:

"I made a lot of useful connections back then and spoke to the heads of major Russian companies. This experience helped me implement and promote my ideas. So, when I learned about the new gathering, I immediately applied," Maxim shares.

As part of the program, participants had the opportunity to meet international BRICS business mentors, participate in the launch of a unified international content center uniting bloggers from 34 countries, and establish professional connections with young professionals from various fields.

"I'm glad I had the chance to participate in such a large-scale event, and I'm proud that our country is creating platforms for personal interaction between people from all over the world. I've achieved all the goals I set for myself—in international communication, career, and professional development," concludes Maxim.

The organizers note that the gathering served as a platform for laying the "foundation for the future," where young people demonstrated their commitment to joint initiatives and the development of international cooperation. The next festival will be held in Krasnoyarsk in 2026.

Denis Manturov chaired a meeting of the State Commission for Combating Illegal Trafficking of Industrial Products

Denis Manturov chaired a meeting of the state commission to combat illegal trafficking of industrial products.

First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Denis Manturov chaired a meeting of the State Commission on Combating Illegal Trafficking of Industrial Products. The event was attended by the heads of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia Anton Alikhanov, the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia Maxim Reshetnikov, the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East Alexey Chekunkov, the Federal Tax Service of Russia Daniil Egorov, the Federal Customs Service of Russia Valery Pikalyov, the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology Anton Shalayev, Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, the Federal Security Service of Russia, the Federal Antimonopoly Service, Rosselkhoznadzor, Rosstat, Rospatent, Roszdravnadzor, and other agencies and organizations, as well as the heads of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation.

The meeting participants approved the new Strategy for Combating Illegal Trafficking of Industrial Products through 2030, as well as the implementation plan. Denis Manturov outlined the Strategy's priority areas, including improving the institution of industrial product conformity assessment and oversight, finalizing the development of regulatory solutions to curb the online sale of illegal goods, and eliminating fictitious manufacturers passing off goods of unknown origin as Russian.

Denis Manturov also noted that product identification marking is an example of an effective way to combat illegal product trafficking. This marking tool already covers 33 product groups, and experiments are underway on 12 more.

"The operator, CRPT, has invested over 100 billion rubles in private investment into the creation of the labeling system. And we see the unique effectiveness of this tool. The government and businesses have collectively received approximately 2 trillion rubles in additional revenue from the cleansing of the economy and the release of demand. Importantly, the labeling system is not only scalable to new industries but is also expanding with key functionality. Specifically, this concerns the automatic prevention of illegal product sales to consumers at checkout. A similar mechanism is being developed to address the supply of unsafe products to social institutions," the First Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

One of the key objectives of the updated Strategy is the effective implementation of state oversight over certain types of products. Denis Manturov emphasized the need to reinstate this oversight for certain building materials: cement, cables, heating radiators, and other products.

"During the year of the experiment, Rosstandart conducted approximately 35,000 preventative and control measures. Based on these results, we have observed a decline in the number of detected violations, from 91% in January to 68% currently. This positive shift is also confirmed by construction associations, which have recorded a decline in the volume of unsafe products on the market. Therefore, there are objective grounds for resuming state oversight of these product categories," the First Deputy Prime Minister noted.

"The strategy includes an analysis of the results achieved in combating illegal trafficking of industrial products over the past five years. It also assesses the current situation, identifies key issues, mechanisms, and measures for implementing the Strategy, as well as the expected results," said Ekaterina Priezzheva, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

The meeting participants supported the draft law "On Amendments to the Federal Law "On Industrial Policy in the Russian Federation" and the Repeal of Certain Provisions of Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation," which provides for the establishment of a separate type of state control over compliance with mandatory requirements for certain types of industrial products.

The meeting participants also approved a draft federal law developed by Rospotrebnadzor on the introduction of a system of automatic fines for violations of mandatory requirements for the labeling of goods with identification means.
