An unusual master class on Chinese calligraphy was held at NSU

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Novosibirsk State University –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

At the Confucius Institute Humanitarian Institute NSU On August 27, an unusual class on Chinese calligraphy was held. It was conducted by NSU graduate Yegor Betechtin, now a master's student at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. This is Yegor's second master class at NSU: the first was held in February last year.

The topic of practical work on the eve of the new academic year was a catchphrase from Confucius's "Conversations and Judgments", which can be translated as "Insatiable thirst for knowledge". In addition to NSU students, representatives of NSTU and NSPU took part in the master class. In three hours, each participant created their own talisman scroll, decorated with an imprint of the "Hundred Joys" seal. Egor carved this seal from a stone blank right in the classroom. At the end of the lesson, the seal itself and two scrolls made by Egor were raffled off among the students.

— I like to talk about art, and people like to listen. But at the master class, everything was even more interesting: they listened, made and even took gifts home with them. I think we should be united by joy and interest — that’s what I wanted to convey. Creativity liberates, and when there is a space where you can create freely, even spontaneously and for just a couple of hours, life becomes somehow more fun, — Egor shared.

Egor studied Chinese at the Humanities Institute of NSU in the field of "Linguistics", and also studied at the scientific, educational and cultural center "Confucius Institute". He participated in language and creative competitions – from inter-university to international, and also received a scholarship from the Chinese government to study in China. When entering the Central Academy of Fine Arts, he had to provide a creative portfolio – Egor's works have already been exhibited, and soon the first personal projects are expected, including in Russia.

— I plan to hold two more personal exhibitions in Moscow, several master classes and lectures — all this in December and January. In February of next year, I hope to exhibit in Akademgorodok, and then, perhaps, I will get to NSU, — Yegor said about his plans.

At the Institute of Calligraphy of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, Egor is the only foreign master's student. It is extremely difficult to comprehend centuries-old art based on a different worldview. This is work that requires complete immersion, a huge investment of time, effort and health. But Egor himself admits that it was in calligraphy that he found his calling and is now sure that this is the work he wants to do in the future.

We wish our graduate success in his final year of master's degree and look forward to seeing him again at NSU!

Mielophone and Time Machine: How the Second Day of TechnoArt Went

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Novosibirsk State University –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The second day of the TechnoArt science and art festival was no less eventful than the first. At lunchtime, a lecture-film analysis was held: Tamara Chuchuk, a graduate of the Physics Department of NSU, senior laboratory assistant at the G. I. Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, spoke about the inventions and scientific predictions that were covered in the 1985 film Guest from the Future based on the book of the same name by science fiction writer Kir Bulychev. After all, we are already partly in the future from which Alice flew in. Which inventions and discoveries have been realized, and which are never destined to come true? Robots, voice assistants, control of brain biocurrents – what has become familiar to us? And what is yet to be mastered?

Can, for example, our grandchildren and great-grandchildren start actively launching satellites into space while still in school? Tamara Chuchuk believes that, despite all the difficulties in understanding physics by schoolchildren, this is entirely possible:

— My classmate, who graduated from university a year and a half ago, has already launched a satellite. Therefore, it seems to me that our grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who are passionate about science, may well start launching satellites into space much earlier.

What about the famous myelophone and the ability to read each other's thoughts?

— Have you ever noticed that your thoughts sometimes seem to synchronize with the thoughts of another person? In general, this can be explained by simple laws of physics. Let's take the force of an ampere, which acts on two wires with current, and if the current in both conductors flows in the same direction, then the conductors are attracted to each other. The same is with our thoughts; people who think in the same direction are attracted to each other in every sense, — says Tamara.

After lunch, the guests' attention was drawn to the lecture "Catch Me If You Can" by Tamara Shakirova, a research fellow at the Institute of Nuclear Physics SB RAS. Unlike the first presentation, when Tamara Chuchuk analyzed fantastic or already-realized inventions from the point of view of physics, Shakirova's lecture focused exclusively on real scientific achievements that allow "traveling" in time. She spoke about methods of dating objects using accelerator mass spectrometry, which allows determining the age of finds with an accuracy of several thousand years. These technologies open up opportunities for scientists to better understand the history of the Earth and the development of life on it.

The process of using an accelerator mass spectrometer to study the age of objects can be imagined as one of the most modern and accurate "time machines". By the way, NSU is home to the only Center for Collective Use in Russia, the "NSU-NNC Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Center". Using this equipment, scientists can calculate the age of various objects with high accuracy. It all starts with specialists taking a sample – be it a piece of bone, wood or other organic matter – and carefully cleaning it from contaminants. Then the sample undergoes chemical treatment and is then burned, releasing carbon dioxide containing carbon 12 and carbon 14, which is necessary for calculations.

— How does carbon fourteen spread, and why is it so important to us? It oxidizes in the atmosphere, turns into carbon dioxide and through photosynthesis gets into organic compounds — trees, plants, fruits, etc. And then along the food chain it gets to animals and people who get it with food. It is also found in seas and oceans, because it can dissolve in water. When an animal or organic matter lives, it continuously absorbs this carbon fourteen; its concentration is always maintained at the same level as in the atmosphere. But when the organism dies, its intake from the atmosphere stops. And since carbon fourteen is radioactive and decays, it decreases in the same bones or dead trees. If we know how much carbon is in the atmosphere and how much is contained in the bones of an animal or bark, we can calculate when this animal lived and establish the exact date, — says Tamara.

After Tamara Shakirova's lecture, it became clear that incredibly complex and precise scientific developments can become a kind of "time machine". While science fiction continues to give us dreams of traveling to the past and future, real science is already finding ways to delve into our past and reveal its secrets using technologies that until recently seemed impossible.

But one thing remains constant: scientific achievements, although they offer incredible opportunities, require attention to detail, responsibility and a desire to seek answers to questions that concern humanity.

TechnoArt-2025 has once again demonstrated that science and art can go hand in hand, opening up new horizons both in the world of knowledge and in the world of prospects.

Mosvodokanal launched a new television inspection system

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Specialists of JSC Mosvodokanal have started using a new television inspection system. It is designed to inspect hard-to-reach main sewer collectors and water pipes of medium and large diameters. Equipment testing was completed in 2024, and this year the robotic complex took its place in the arsenal of the company's technical diagnostics center. This was reported by the city economy complex.

The new equipment allows for remote and prompt assessment of the condition of extended sections of communications with a diameter of 0.5 to 4.9 meters. This is the maximum indicator for Mosvodokanal collectors. At the same time, the system is designed for a diameter of up to six meters, which allows for inspecting underwater elements of larger structures.

The remote module allows inspection of areas up to a kilometer long, which is twice as much as previous models (up to 500 meters). Its speed reaches 30 meters per minute.

The special feature of the equipment is the presence of a circular scanning acoustic sonar, capable of making a full turn in less than one second. It helps not only to see the internal state of underground utilities, but also to determine the volume of sediment that is under the wastewater. Based on the diagnostics results, a graph is drawn up, on the basis of which a decision is made on the need for cleaning work.

The television inspection system significantly facilitates the work of specialists of the technical diagnostics center of Mosvodokanal. The enterprise pays close attention to the condition of engineering communications and production facilities.

For over 20 years, a technical diagnostics center has been operating as part of Mosvodokanal JSC. This division has various robotic systems in its arsenal: wheeled, floating, equipped with push-through modules. The equipment allows checking the internal condition of pipelines and the condition of their cement-sand coating, as well as the quality of installation of butt joints and sealing of socket joints, and the presence of foreign objects.

Time for Enlightenment: How Moscow NGOs Help Children Gain Knowledge

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

One of the important areas of activity of Moscow non-profit organizations (NPO) is support of education and science. Funds help children left without parents to master the school curriculum, successfully graduate from school and enter colleges or universities, and teenagers with behavioral problems – to improve relationships with others, to improve their studies. In addition, NPOs direct funds to support young scientists who are working on the implementation of promising and ambitious projects.

Caring and responsive citizens can also provide educational assistance to those who need it. One way to support the wards of non-profit organizations is to make a donation using charity service on the mos.ru portal.

"Moscow residents help orphans study well and realize their potential in the future, and help schoolchildren with behavioral problems socialize and learn to work in a team. Every caring citizen can contribute to the development of science and education by making a donation or by signing up for a regular subscription to the charity service on the mos.ru portal," noted the Chairperson of the Moscow City Committee for Public Relations and Youth Policy

Ekaterina Dragunova.

Acquire knowledge in the main subjects and continue studying at a university

Fund "Simple Things" helps orphans get a secondary school education. This charity implements the “Stairway Up” program. Its goal is to support children left without parental care and having difficulties with learning school material. The main participants of the project are students from the sixth to the 11th grade, living in centers for the promotion of family education. Experienced teachers work with children individually in key subjects: Russian language, mathematics, physics, chemistry, history, social studies and others.

In addition, senior school students receive consultations from psychologists. Thanks to the classes, the children's interest in studying increases and their academic performance improves. Psychological support helps teenagers gain self-confidence. Tutors find an approach to each child and win their trust. As a result, the children successfully pass the Basic State Exam (OGE) and the Unified State Exam (USE). For example, this year, participants in the "Stairway Up" program entered secondary and higher educational institutions in the capital, including the Moscow State Pedagogical University, the Russian University of Medicine, the Moscow Automobile and Road College named after A.A. Nikolaev and many others.

Focus on your studies and improve your academic performance

Charity fund "Shalash" helps children with behavioral problems master social skills. Often in adolescence, children have mood swings, they can lose self-control and show aggression. It is quite difficult for such children to build relationships with peers and adults, as well as to learn school material. For teenagers with behavioral problems, the Shalash Foundation has created a unique training program. Experienced teachers and volunteers conduct classes on the development of emotional intelligence and study skills. During these classes, children learn to correctly express feelings, listen to the interlocutor, negotiate with each other, work in a team and take responsibility for their actions and decisions.

The specialists of the Shalash Foundation also teach teachers and parents how to deal with difficult behavior in junior and senior schoolchildren. They explain in detail why children act this way. They also tell adults about effective tools that help them cope with difficult behavior.

Digital technologies and new methods of treatment

The activities of young scientists and research teams in Moscow are supported by the foundation "Global Alliance for Assistance". The organization directs the collected funds to conduct research and improve developments in various fields, including biotechnology, medicine, and artificial intelligence. Scientists also receive organizational and informational support. For example, this year, thanks to donations from city residents throughcharity service The mos.ru portal has produced a series of popular science podcasts

In addition, the foundation allocated resources to the implementation of the VR Inclusion project. The technology is a special application based on virtual reality. It is designed to teach children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) everyday and social skills. With the help of VR glasses, children find themselves in realistic situations, for example, when they need to cross the road or go to the store. The training is like a game, and actions can be performed as many times as necessary. Thus, children with mental disabilities experience less stress and difficulties in acquiring useful life skills. More than two thousand children with ASD have completed training in VR format. In addition, the charity plans to open and equip eight specialized classes in centers for helping children with ASD and rehabilitation boarding schools with VR equipment, as well as train specialists in educational institutions to work with it.

You can learn more about the activities of the listed funds in the charity service in the category "Science and Education". You can transfer any comfortable amount to support the program you like. You can also click on the "Help everyone" button, and then the payment will be divided equally between all organizations in the category. The service also allows you to open your own charity collection in a couple of minutes and support the wards of the "Science and Education" category programs. After opening the collection, you can share the link to it with your friends and family. This format of collective support allows you to provide more help, draw attention to the problem, and increase awareness and involvement of citizens.

You can set up regular support for funds. To do this, you need to log in to mos.ru. How to register on the portal and log in is described in one of instructions. Then, after making the first donation, you need to click on the "Connect auto payment" button on the page that will appear immediately after the funds are transferred. Next, the user needs to select the frequency and date of the write-off, as well as the amount and method of payment. At any time, the subscription can be disabled or the donation amount can be changed.

"City of Ideas": How Muscovites' Proposals Help Develop the Capital's Electronic Projects

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The platform helps Muscovites contribute to the development of the urban environment and electronic services "City of Ideas", thanks to which taking part in the life of the capital becomes even more convenient and interesting. Since the launch of the platform, 190 proposals have already been implemented, as a result of which digital projects have become more effective and functional, and interaction with them more comfortable.

The City of Ideas platform began accepting relevant initiatives in 2022. Then, in the section "Suggest an idea" a sphere appeared "Electronic Projects".

"Active Citizen"

Muscovites can share ideas in six areas. One of them is the development of the project's website and application "Active Citizen". For example, an updated section has appeared on the project website "Pulse of the Capital" (Photopulse), where photos of the brightest moments of Moscow life are published. Every month in German define a new theme for photographs, and in the permanent column "Muscovites' Choice" they post the best shots of city objects that have been transformed thanks to "active citizens". In addition, residents of the capital have suggested many topics for voting and quizzes.

In addition, thanks to suggestions from city residents, the mobile application has undergone visual changes – a dark theme has become available to users.

"City of Tasks"

In the project "City of tasks" Thanks to the ideas of Muscovites, many suggestions for active pastime in the capital also appeared. Thus, task group, during which participants take walking tours of interesting places in the capital and receive 200 points for the city loyalty program "A Million Prizes". They can be used to obtain goods and services program partners or donate to charity.

In addition, the functions of the project website have become even more convenient. Now tasks that are at different stages of completion are sorted by status in the corresponding tabs: "In progress", "Under review" or "Booked". And the mobile application receives push notifications that inform about the publication of new tasks so that users do not miss the chance to take part in interesting city events.

"Our City" and "City of Ideas"

Portal "Our City" is being improved, including thanks to the initiatives of the City of Ideas users, who offer new relevant topics for the possibility of sending messages about identified shortcomings in the maintenance of city facilities. Now the portal accepts messages about poor quality maintenance of city facilities. river transport and his berths, as well as about the state city clock and malfunctions speakers in metro trains, metro trains, MCC, MCD.

On the platform "City of Ideas" Users can express their opinion on what areas are missing for making proposals. As a result, the areas of "Ecology" and "Entrepreneurship" were created in 2023, and "Sports" and "Pets" this year. Also, thanks to the proposals of Muscovites, the "Gorky Park", "My Sports District" and "Pets in Moscow" projects appeared on the "City of Ideas" platform. As a result of their implementation, new sports grounds were built in the capital, sections were opened and infrastructure for pets was reconstructed. In total, more than 62.7 thousand residents took part in the projects.

"A Million Prizes"

Two more topics for submitting ideas are dedicated to the development of the program "A Million Prizes". They consider citizens' initiatives to improve the site for the convenience of users. Among those implemented is the creation of a separate category "Active Citizen for Children", where products and services that can be obtained using children's points are displayed. A new feature has appeared – adding your favorite rewards to the section "Favorites". In addition, in the reward cards in the reviews you can now attach a photo of the received souvenir so that other users can learn more about it.

The replenishment of the website showcase with new incentives also takes into account the wishes of city residents left on the City of Ideas platform. Thus, new partners have joined the program, including well-known marketplaces and stores. It has become possible to use city points to receive a promo code for paying a bill in the My Payments service on the mos.ru portal, in the Moscow State Services and My Moscow mobile applications, and on the Electronic Home platform. In the category "Parks" Certificates for visiting rope parks, renting sports equipment or swimming equipment have become available.

All these innovations clearly demonstrate how the ideas of Muscovites make the capital's services more convenient and focused on the real needs of city residents.
